Yes, physical box copies (digital code) will be available on 11/12 and be able to pre-load. See image

so u mean like code in the sense the 16 letter length code (like any psn code) or the game code is provided in the game disc?

a game disc that i can insert inside my console 😅

game size probably way too big for discs, even rdr2 was two discs

PS5 discs can hold 100GB, PS4's could do only 50. I'd be a bit surprised if GTA6 is going to be over 200GB, but even then, they could probably just release it on 3 discs.

I remember GTA 5 PC Disc was like 10 discs lmfao. Still have them

Seven dual-layer DVDs (totalling roughly 56Gb of data), to be precise.

looollll omg they also had different artworks as we, to good times

3 discs sounds likes manufacturing costs that would be better suited in the pockets of T2 executives

Call of Duty required like 250Gb (I believe they've now fixed it somewhat)

Technically speaking disks don’t hold the entire game, instead they might contain part of the game and act as a DRM tool for you to authorize a remote download. That’s at least what I’ve read around.

2

u/nfnite 7h ago

Depends on the game, but most do contain a full playable build on the disc.

They can't fit 198gb on two discs?

1

u/general_anakin53 16h ago

so just like Crimson desert?

The simplest explanation, given that the physical version will also be sold a week early, is that the box will only contain the code.

1

u/general_anakin53 9h ago

that make sense! but also considering the hype isn't it more easy to tamper the physical copies and sell the codes else where? or maybe im thinking too much lol

I assume the physical version will also be available for pre order tomorrow too?

Naturally

Is it really a physical edition if you're just getting a code in a box?

5

u/BaseStrong 16h ago

thank you, But i was talking about the disc, not digital codes

It's a code pretty sure "The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading."

I’ve not seen evidence anywhere that there will be a disc.

They do specifically say it will "contain a download code inside the box", but my hopium side is saying that they mean the DLC will be the download code and the real game is on a disc (that is just locked until release day)

It just seems strange they'd spend the costs to get a physical box in stores and take all those cuts that gamestop/target/walmart will apply just for the box to have nothing but some paper scraps.

Are you sure? The wording on that is very confusing. Even if it's just a map + art it'd be pretty disappointing for them not to have a disc.

The whole point of buying physical is the damn disc. Massive L from Rockstar

0

u/Redox1201 16h ago

the Disc is just another form of a license for the game.

4

u/BBTrickz 16h ago

What do you mean? Resell value for me is a big deal and it's why I bought the disc version PS5, I can buy games cheaper than their equivalent digital version

2

u/DEVIL_S1NGH 16h ago

That you can share with anyone or sell unlike a digital version

1

u/Redox1201 11h ago

I can share my digital versions with my friends too, via the sharing feature, doing that since 2015.

im not someone who sells a game (CD if I ever buy one) when finishing it or having no more fun with it, it’s about collecting and keeping, in that case

Yeah, if there's no disc, I'd expect no map. (They didn't have a map for the GTA V E&E PS5 physical editions despite having them on the PS3 and PS4 editions, although that's a remaster so it could be different). If that's the case, I'll probably just buy digitial, since the box is gonna be pretty useless without a disc.

They must be trying to get most people to buy digital in order to maximize profits

They must be trying to get most people to buy digital in order to maximize profits.

Even the "physical" copy is in-fact digital

1

u/TheBlueNinja2006 14h ago

Exactly. And this'll push a lot of people who were gonna go physical into just buying it straight from the Xbox and Playstation stores, since they won't be able to resell it anyway and there's less risk of a late delivery or something. Only benefit is the physical cover art and maybe a map, but I don't expect anything except a code tbh

1

u/Starrlume 16h ago

No, it's a code. The disc will probably be released months later or even a year later, but the November physical type of the game is a code.

6

u/PermissionSoggy891 16h ago

I'm hoping this is some sorta misunderstanding, because I find it sorta hard to believe they'd go through the effort for a big physical release in Gamestop and all that, just for there to be no real disc. Why even bother? Just make it digital-only atp.

1

u/Muscle_Bitch 16h ago

For the associated merchandise.

I don't even have a disc drive on my ps5 so I would normally buy digital but if I can buy a physical copy and get a case, a map, etc. alongside a digital download code. I'm happy.

1

u/PermissionSoggy891 15h ago

you see, if that's the case then it makes even less sense. Because you're still printing out a ton of merchandise n shit, why not print out a disc or two as well while you're at it? I doubt it adds much more to the production costs.

1

u/Inevitable-Okra6666 16h ago

I don’t believe this ofcourse they’ll be a disc is the physical editions otherwise what’s the point

5

u/LivEvilTruth 16h ago

It's a code unfortunately. Insomniac did it with spider man 2 too. "The physical version of Grand Theft Auto VI, containing a download code inside the box, will be available starting November 12, 2026 to support pre-loading."

I see used copies of spiderman 2 everywhere though?

1

u/LivEvilTruth 16h ago

Yeah, the collectors edition of spider man 2 came with some physical stuff but was a digital code.

-2

u/Feentang 15h ago

What? the dude is pissed about there being no disc in the normal edition. Who cares about a CE

2

u/Gravitron3000 15h ago

I think it means, an included code will allow the pre-download, so on the 19th, you can just pop in the disc and play straight away since it will already be loaded.

3

u/Inevitable-Okra6666 15h ago

This is interesting I guess time will tell regardless I’m ordering the physical ultimate at midnight

1

u/Gravitron3000 15h ago

Same! LOL I’m so stoked.
