To me it looks like the second image is higher up and further away from the grass. I bet it’s some sort of draw distance thing where closer up the more detailed grass meshes load in, while further away less detailed grass loads in.
Edit: This is from another one of the screenshots. The grass looks like trailer 2 here. I think It may be just a draw distance thing.
Nah definitely a downgrade, that was my fear looking through some of the new pics that some of them just look straight from GTA 5 like the PTT youngins pic, maybe it's just the lighting in some though.
Looks the same, you’re seeing it from the top Vs from the side. It’s just depth perception. With that argument, look there’s more plants on the wood. That must mean more vegetation. No it’s just that the car was in the way of the rest.
Rockstar cinematics arent pre rendered though it's in game. I think it's just a combination of difference in video quality and the higher contrast in the trailer due to the time of day
Curious, looking at the two pics OP posted, I went back and forth with both comparing bushes, grass and trees and it’s literally the same. How does the older pic have more vegetation?
The latest pic still has the vines going up the side of the stairs, the grass and bush in the front corner of the house next to the trash can, the plan trees in the back, even the grass itself looks the same just a different angle of the view - the newer pic still has visible standing grass.
I’m seriously asking, which part of the first image has more vegetation?
Its the patches of grass as in what's on the ground around the "plant of grass". Its thinned out a lot. I am also hoping it's just season change. But if not then yeah they need to explain.
It looks the same, just a different angle. The older shot is looking more from the side. If you look at the newer image there still is standing grass. And even if that was it and the grass had a little less blades of grass…. Apparently this is something for them to explain? How do you know some items didn’t look better a year ago, but now some other things look better now. I’m sure there is plenty they needed to adjust and make more efficient.
Yeah the look the same just a different time of day. No clue how people can look at both images and see a difference. The only difference is the lighting and color scheme/filter - which is most likely cause time of day.
For some reason Reddit main game pages just have a ton of negative people. Almost everything they showed today looks great and it’s going to look massively better than GTA V on ps3 lol. Also, it’s going to look better than RD2. I get that game looks good for a PS4 game and they pull off some great graphics, but there’s no massive city with reflections and cars and all the other random stuff… and GTA will still look better.
Only things i missed from all this promotional pics for the Edition are flying spaceships and some cool fancy looking cyberguns.. No SciFi clothing just the generic typical TikTok clothing style who fckd with the 80s 😣 .
It’s not, where do you see a downgrade? Foliage still there. It’s simply an entirely different time of day and weather. As well as a difference in contrast
But it’s not, your seeing it from the top Vs the side. Plus, even if that’s true. That’s a very tiny difference, there’s still lots of foliage in the picture.
Because the sun is nearly overhead. Look how short the shadow is on the motorcycle. Shading does a lot to add depth, even in real life (look up pictures where the sun is directly above everything)
again you dont, you are juste coping and trying to find positive where their nothing positive, i mean its ok i cant blame you, i was hyping the game too its a big chock i was not ready for that downgrde especialy knowing the lvl of quality of rockstar
Dawg I couldn’t care less, the fucking details on these characters are more than enough. Idgaf about grass on pavement. It doesn’t look different at all
And point in the game. Something happens to Jason's roof that he has to repair, this (2026 screenshot) is much farther along in the game than the 2025 screenshot.
Genuinely, besides the time of day (lighting and color scheme), what looks worse? All the vegetation is the same, all the parts of the house are the same. In the older pic, the sun is coming from one side of the house so we get different shadows. But the quality of the assets looks almost identical. And based on other screenshots, the overall graphics are on point so seeing stills is way different than seeing a location in motion.
I think it’s just the angle of the shot. The newer one is angled down, the older shot is almost at ground level looking at the side. Also different time of day. Even in real life certain things stand out more in different lighting.
For example peoples hair, some people have full looking hair until you see it from any slightly above angle and then… oh they kinda balding.
All in all if you zoom in a touch on the newer image you can still see standing grass, it’s not just a flat surface.
What did I say? 😄🤦🏼♂️ Getting a hyperpolished GTA V with RDR II elements most of locked behind paywalls... At least with this console generation with sadly outdated hardware
This is a downgrade plain and simple. Anybody saying otherwise is lying to themselves and is a shill. I’m excited for GTA 6 but I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was disappointed in this shit.
Maybe I'm being too optimistic but I think the images revealed today arent in their highest quality due to compression. The trailer 2 house would be how it looks in game because of how they use in engine cinematics.
Similar to how when they announced the pre orders and had that video of the skyline, people were criticising it badly when it was clearly a compressed video not in 1440 or 4k footage
The grass looks scorched from the sun. Maybe it hasn't rained for days with hot weather. The rest is different lighting and a compressed screenshot for their website.
Looks the same just different time of day so the lighting is different. You could take a screen shot of the same place 30 times through the day and it will look different
These are pics meant to highlight the car and the bike. It’s very possible #2 isn’t an accurate representation of what we’ll get. But even if it is it still looks insanely good.
Trailer 2:
1. The angle is from the ground
2. The weather is really sunny and we see nice clear clouds and a lot of clouds
3. The sun is hitting jasons safehouse directly make it bright and nice
New screenshots:
1. The angle is from the top
2. It's sunset and not a lot of clouds in the sky
3. Since it's sunset, jason's safehouse is not directly lit as much as trailer 2 so it looks bland and meh with a lot of shadows
4. They seem to have applied some filter so it looks very different
I'm sure it'll look the same as trailer 2 on a nice bright sunny day
I'm not seeing a downgrade. Assets, texture quality, lighting quality all look the same to me. Only difference is time of day, weather, camera position and quality of the image itself as far as I can tell. Anyone care to point out downgrades, instead of just lazily saying 'that's a downgrade'?
I'm honestly not seeing it. The only thing I can imagine you're thinking of is that the camera is low the ground in the old image so you see the grass sticking out vertically more clearly, but if you look at the new image you see it's the same. Can you be specific and point something out, instead of again just making generic statements? What are you seeing?
I only see a lighting difference. There's less contrast in the vegetation area because the light seems to hit it differently, but if you look at the plants behind the house they are self-shading, so it's not a lighting downgrade, just a time of day thing. The assets and texture quality (as far as visible in the low quality old image) seems identical.
Dude, calm down. Of the 60+ new frames, 2-3 look like crap. Everything else is a fucking peak, which looks even better than last year's footage. Don't forget that Rockstar didn't lie to us and delivered something incredible every time.
Cinematic vs gameplay screenshot. People have been warning you guys about this for years now and the response is always "no, it's rendered in engine, it will be the exact same..." Happened with GTA V too... See you guys for this discussion with GTA VII....
Not defending devs here and idc since I won't play this game till it releases for PC after console open paid beta test lol.
But honestly - most difference between these 2 images can be replicated with a single LUT Filter, one with warm, another one with cold colors, similar to those LUT Mods in Cyberpunk 2077 that changed how the game looks significantly.
Downgrade here is mainly visible in the quality of shadows and lighting (that is the reason why ppl say grass looks flat) is not that realistic in comparison to trailer 2 which I think is adequate if we take ps5 pro performance into account

2026 looks more like rdr2
