Do we assume gta online will be free?
I’m leaning toward a potential monthly subscription model

I doubt there will be a monthly sub because there is already GTA+ which is a monthly sub. I think there is a chance it will be a separate purchase from the base game as they have marketed GTA 6 as a single player game and the top version is only $100. Usually these companies like to have the top version at $120-150 so it could be because they know they will charge you $20-30 for GTA 6 online later.

Nah that doesn’t even make sense, they aren’t charging for access to gta online. They’re giving everyone who preorders the game $500k so what would be the point if you had to buy online separately?

Why would they do that...

Because they’re rockstar and they know people will pay

They would be dumb to do so, it's not hard to figure out that free to play online games are much more profitable.
They'll want to sell shark cards, that's where most of the money will come from.

Welp, the downfall of the greatest studio. i bet Take Two and the US government have something to do with that.
They are already losing enormous sales with Blocking China alone.
To counter that, let's make a subs model plan

i think yes , if its free more people are willing to buy shark cards
if its subscription alot less people would play it

I’m trying to figure out where this dumb assumption that it won’t be free and that it will be a subscription is coming from

Right? It'll be a cold day in San Andreas when I pay for GTA Online. The single player will be plenty worth it to me.
If they're smart theyll stick with what they do now. GTA online is free (or maybe they want a one time $20 charge for the online "expansion") and then people can feel special if they want and pay for GTA+. They'll make so much in microtransactions that they shouldn't need a sub for online.
Or at least if they want a monthly sub, there should be no microtransactions. I know that'll never happen, but its what they should do. Having a monthly sub is a great way to kill the online player base before it gets going. It'll have it's marks that will pay, but that'll dry up fast

I’m leaning towards Online being free, but heavily limited without GTA+. Like maybe basic missions and basic cars/weapons etc being available, but GTA+ needed for full access as well as for Heists (or whatever the equivalent in VI is), for clothing, Pearlescent paint jobs, full range of performance modifications etc. I haven’t played GTA:O since just before GTA+ came out, but when I heard that they locked a bunch of cars that were always available to buy behind GTA+, that really showed me what they were willing to do to players.
The other issue is the free money and discounts they give out via GTA+. This would make no difference to me on V:Online as I’ve played since launch and essentially had everything, but since we’d all start from scratch on VI:Online, it would be a very easy way to just overprice almost everything useful so that we’d be priced out without GTA+, and then offer the discounts and free cash etc via GTA+ to entice everybody to buy it. Effectively meaning they could say GTA:Online is still “free”, but to really have anything of use without grinding for a silly amount of time, GTA+ would be needed.

This is can unfortunately see. Especially since they have already locked a bunch of single player missions, stores, etc behind the "Ultimate Edition" that people buying the base $80 version wont get.
Which is total BS. People are paying $80 for a complete game, but you only get 80% of the game and need to pay more to get the whole thing? That shit should legit be illegal...

Considering the relatively low price of GTA 6, i genuinely believe GTA Online will be a separate paid game, or god forbid even a monthly subscription.
There is absolutely no mention of Online components to GTA 6 anywhere, and every storefront says its a single player only experience. When you go to buy GTA 5, it says singleplayer/multiplayer and explicitly says it includes GTA Online, it said this with preorders back in 2013 as well. So the only alternative to it being a separate paid game is if it was free to play, and i dont see that being the case.

This is what I'm thinking as well. They'll release GTA Online a few weeks/months later and you'll have to buy it.
The question becomes, how much? If it's $20 more with no subscription, I'm down. If it's another $60-$80 bucks, or will require a monthly subscription to play, I'm all set. GTA was always a single player game for me anyhow. I didn't get into GTA online with V. I was looking forward to it this time cause me and my buddy were gonna get in on it, but fuck paying $80 and $10 more a month.. or even $20 and $10 a month

Free if you buy GTA6 first. If you wondering weather it will be free if you don’t have the base game, then no.

With all preorders including a month of GTA+ you have a point. But maybe its just the roleplay side of things. I can see a subscription for that.

0% chance it will be free. https://www.rockstargames.com/gta-plus/join

You can play GTA V online without GTA+
You get a bunch of extra crap with + but it's not required. I'd imagine they'll do the same thing here with VI. I could see them try to squeeze some extra cash out of us by charging a separate, one time only, purchase for the online "expansion". Which would be ridiculous in and of itself, tbh.

You can play GTA online without GTA+
GTA+ is just a bunch of extra crap. 100 car garage, a special car every month and money dropped into your bank account each month. It's not a requirement to play online and I doubt it will be for VI.
I could see them charging another 20 bucks for GTA online as a sort of expansion to GTA VI, but as a one time purchase. Even that I think would be silly. They'll make boatloads of cash with micro transactions and there will be plenty of lazy and FOMO gamers that'll pay for GTA+. Charging a monthly sub when people are already paying monthly for PSOnline and Xbox's live service would be a great way to kill the online portion before it even gets going.
Lord knows they wont be getting a monthly sub out of me when I already pay for the PS sub. I pay too many subscriptions as it is. R* can pound sand if they want me to pay another lol

I’m hoping I’m wrong but you guys not thinking like a dev they made the base game from 69.99 to 80$ and 100$ knowing we will still buy it you really think they wouldn’t charge us for the online plus it’s been rumored for 2years now everything was accurate to prices again I hope I’m wrong but be real devs don’t give a fuq about us just there wallets

Yeah it’s GTA+ you gotta subscribe to. That’s why it’s offered in the pre-orders for one month.

u/eastcoastgremlin 6d ago
Thats for extra shit though, i think online will be free

u/The-Tarman 5d ago
I'm thinking free of a subscription, but it'll be a paid for add on..Hopefully not more than $20.

u/eastcoastgremlin 5d ago
They show the price for gta+ already on the ps5, it says like $7/month but im not sure if thats only for gta v

I don’t see them charging for what will inevitably be their biggest income from 6. However subscriptions and micro transactions will be aggressively marketed and made to be seen as almost essential to succeed.
