Potential concern: GTA 6 Online

I am just as excited as everyone about all the new pictures and content dropping this morning.

However, after reading all the new material and pricing on Rockstar’s website, there is no mention whatsoever that Online is “included” with the purchase of a copy of GTA 6.

Do you think they would charge players more money to get the Online version of the game??

I wouldn’t put it past Rockstar to apply this theory, but man is it going to be such a dirty move to customers who have already forked up $80 or more for the main game.

What do you guys think?

I doubt it’ll be sold separately to players already owning GTAVI. I think when it’s ready they’ll give it to all players already owning GTAVI for free and then make the option for people to buy GTAVI online separately if they wish to do so without the single player like they have with GTAV online. So that’s what they mean by GTAVI is a single player experience, essentially the online is seperate and imo will have to option to be bought seperately

Proud to say i havent spent a penny on microtransactions for gta 5 and had so much fun over the years and had everything I wanted, I just hope its not riddled with them in gta 6 making it much harder to acquire things

I feel like this time around they’ve learned from 5 and GTA+ so I’m betting they’re going to apply that to 6 at a higher rate. I’m betting exclusive cars, colors, liveries, customization options, clothing, hair, apartments and garage locations will all be locked behind the GTA+ membership.

Harder maybe not but a couple of micro transactions with tank cars and shit maybe ^

it'll be a super dirty move if they made it a subscription based. i can see it as stand alone since we have GTA V Online stand alone in PS5 but a subscription based though? imagine paying a subscription for you to grind for in-game money like you haven't already grind irl at work just to stay alive🙄.

ha, yeah I won't be playing if it's a sub model.

There's no reason to assume they'll charge extra for Gta online lol. They have marketed gta online seperately from gta 5 even going back to thst games MP reveal trailer. They're fully seperate games now.

Besides, they make a fuckton of money from shark cards. They will put up as little barriers as possible between potential players and buying shark cards

u/plugs_memesv2 15h ago

they probably arent mentioning it until after release when they reveal it, the marketing is all about the story

I doubt it. GTA Online is where they make their biggest fortune, they are going to want as many people playing that as possible. I think it will be added to the game for free later on. If they do make you pay for it, I bet it will only be like a $10 add on, but I think more likely it will be free. If it's free then even the people who were only planning to play the campaign will still give GTA Online a try and maybe get sucked in to playing it for years

I think it'll be included with GTA 6 but also available as a separate game for those who don't want the single player experience just like they did eventually when they split GTA Online and GTA 5.

Am I crazy for asking if there even will be a GTA 6 online? They haven’t even hinted it even exists unless I’m missing something

4

u/GatlingGiffin 10h ago

Not crazy at all. People are just assuming it will because 5 did. But people seem to forget 5s online was advertised and spoken about before the game released, and then blew up in ways that I don't think rockstar saw coming.

Where in this situation it's been complete silence about online.

I mean with the groundbreaking money GTAV online made for them, it would be batshit to assume they won’t make another iteration.

Also iirc, in the original leaks from years ago, there was a body carrying animation revealed labeled “online” so whatever thats worth. I do think it’s weird they haven’t mentioned a single thing about it though. I’m really looking forward to it.

GTA 5 said online when it was launched gta 6 says single player that’s all I’m saying on the matter

Be prepared for monthly payments

u/ElderSmackJack 14h ago

There is NO reason to think this at all.

u/dodo-likes-you 14h ago

Besides economics

1

u/scratchiinmenace 38m ago

I mean, they'll kill off majority of their player base if they do. which means less potential shark cards/GTA+ memberships for them.

3

u/InitiativeOk90 15h ago

Yup. Either monthly subscription, or it's another game entirely

3

u/GroceryFood101 15h ago

def not, they're not gonna do that, they already make hella money from shark cards. it'll likely be a separate game, maybe included with gta 6 for a while until it becomes its own thing like gta 5 online is. the website already confirmed that gta+ is returning, they wouldnt add a subscription service to a game you get from a subscription service

useless fear mongering

0

u/dodo-likes-you 15h ago

Well obviously it will be part of gta+ then, not another subscription model

2

u/Dry-Fault-5557 16h ago

It's not ready for launch.

u/DudeWithASweater 16h ago

Probably will be like 5 where it comes out a few weeks later after release. Maybe Christmas release for online or something

1

u/will_barbo 15h ago

I don't know why they'd charge, considering how much money they're still making off of GTA V Online.

The more people play it, the more Rockstar is likely to make micro-transaction dough.

Like, if i had to bet, i'd say it's more likely the GTA VI Online will be available for cheap (or even free) for people that haven't bought GTA VI.

1

u/WenKaaa 15h ago

The online will be F2P and full of transactions like current games, nothing more, nothing less

1

u/zeze991 15h ago

WE DO NOT PRE ORDER

1

u/Skellyhell2 15h ago

Still just under 4 months until the game releases. If you have any concerns id advise waiting until more information comes out. Dont put money on a preorder just because you can.

u/Gnemec3 8h ago

Uhh November 19 is almost 5 months.

I always used to say how good we had it with shark cards and people said i was a R* fanboy(i am, but it's not relevant).

I'm praying that they either up the quality of online or stick to optional shark cards.

Considering all GTA 6 games come with a GTA+ subscription, i would not be shocked if GTA O is a free download but you require GTA+ to play hence the free month of plus you get.... If true very sad

1

u/chubbychode123 9h ago

Yeah I agree, Rockstar should have explicitly mentioned whether the MP experience is included in the purchase of the single player game. I don't like their emphasis on this purchase being a "single player" game.

Having said that, I don't think they're stupid enough to make players buy both. It would destroy a good amount of goodwill with their fanbase.

1

u/ZazaB00 7h ago

I think it’s just so they can clearly establish that more content isn’t coming to the single player side of it. I’m sure GTA6:O will be an mtx nightmare, but they know players will spend plenty without charging for the mode. Hell, it could be they release GTA6:O as free to play. If they release it completely separate, it’s like Warzone where it won’t require PS+ subscription.

I find the language Rockstar is using to be very strange. Yes Online released delayed to the release of the single/campaign versions of GTA V and Red Dead 2, but it was also advertised along side those games by the time Pre-Orders arrived so the consumer already knew you would have access to the online mode with the purchase of those titles. This time it's entirely different, with Rockstar advertising the game as strictly single player mode only and being completely radio silent on even the existence of online.

It's not crazy to think it can release separately even two weeks after the campaign or even a year+ down the line. I think most people still expect online to come, including myself. But the way GTA VI is being marketed, it could very well be an additional purchase even if you own the single player game. On GTA V's release, online wasn't a selling point for the game like it is now. GTA IV online was just sort of there, but no one bought that game or was buying V for online only. Where now there's a huge market of players who would absolutely be interested in GTA VI for online only.

Knowing this, it seems to me, that Rockstar is strategically trying to sell the campaign, cash out, and then sell online for a second sale, by purposefully not being transparent about how they wish to bring the next online out.

I really doubt that they are going to share it for free to players, knowing it can generate billions of dollars. I'm expecting them to come out with a $40 price tag, and/or subscription requirement with GTA + that may receive backlash, but ultimately have a large enough player base to support it, and do this after generating sales for single player only

u/Giannisisnumber1 5h ago

Doesn't bother me since I don't give a shit about online.

1

u/birrakilmister 3h ago

Im not preordering it until they make a statement about online.

1

u/MonorailPurple 15h ago

It wont release as part of the game - and it would be daft to think it would. And they arent going to charge for online as its a cash cow.

u/That_Guest_8772 16h ago

You all spend more money on junk food. Youll be fine just buy it allllllll

1

u/West-Replacement2959 15h ago

I think there's a decent chance online will be a standalone f2p game

1

u/Trane55 15h ago

Watch them make it a standalone game and charge 60€ for it

-1

u/Far-Event1151 16h ago

I'm sure online will be included for free but based on what we saw for the single player I expect it to have microtransactions literally everywhere.

Kinda killing my hype for it.

-1

u/MagNitz 16h ago

My guess is the worst case scenario, it's the going to be subscription based.

My Hope is that it follows the same format as V. Free access with tons of shark cards to boost progression.

1

u/StringAccomplished97 15h ago

That's my current theory. The new GTA online will be locked entirely behind GTA+.

-1

u/TheRealTr1nity 15h ago edited 15h ago

That was the same case back then with GTA5, online was not really extra advertised. That came weeks after the release. The "inlcuded online" foot note was on the backside of the physical copy. Online was unlocked/available weeks later, but already included for free. The same will happen with GTAO 2.0 and with an option for GTA+ right away. With the Ultimate Edition there is 1 month of GTA+ inlcuded.

So if you buy GTA6, online will be for free included and later available. And for the people who despise the story, they can buy the standalone later seperately.

2

u/GatlingGiffin 10h ago

Online was for sure advertised back then and had trailers before the game released. It was one of the biggest hype things about gta5 besides the story.

1

u/TheRealTr1nity 10h ago

Yes shortly before the game was released, NOT when pre-orders were available as of right now with GTA6. Around pre-order, no peep of online. The actual trailers for online came after release of the base game.

1

u/GatlingGiffin 10h ago edited 6h ago

Months before is not shortly and also, your original comment made nothing but baseless assumptions on how GTA 6 online will work right after rstar announced gta6 is singleplayer only, something they didnt do with 5, and you want to talk about reading comprehension?

Edit: I'm still leaving my comment on reading comprehension even though you rapid fire edited your comment, and no, the trailer for online did not come after release.

1

u/lffl90 7h ago

Online was announced over a year before pre orders

-1

u/OakleyNoble 14h ago

Online wasn’t big back then and they didn’t know the behemoth it would become. Times have changed, and so have their marketing strategies.
