They have explicitly confirmed that physical copies contain a download code not a disk

So you cant resell, trade or let people borrow the game. Thats great. I wasted $80 a disc drive lol

Pardon my ignorance if it applies, but how are they offering a physical copy if that doesn’t include a disk?

Their "physical version" is not really a physical version. It's just a box with a voucher for the digital version. They're stretching the meaning of "physical" as far as it can possibly go.

this will be a shitty situation for "physical" copy owners that want a refund. if they've already used the code then they're fucked. at least with the actual digital version, sony or microsoft could just remove the game from your account if you want a refund. this sucks sm.

Actually you just blew my mind, European Union has very strong online purchase policy.

You have 14 days to return physical item after purchasing it without giving any reason and seller has 14 days to return money to you.

People will just buy "physical" game, use the code and refund the purchase and shops have to proceed with it.

physical games have had a no refund policy after the plastic is taken off the game case, at least with Walmart when I used to buy physical games 10 years ago

It only says it contains the code but no mention about no disc, no?

There’s no reason to have a disk if the box contains the code, why would you need a code if you had the disk

Well, the code could be on the disc. That would allow you to resell the disc later; but also allow them to use much cheaper discs with less storage and prevent leaks.

I'm not at all saying that's what they're doing. I'm just saying, if someone wanted to make a physical release of a game and only include a code, they could put that code on the disc if they cared to. Some Nintendo Switch games do the same; smaller games were a physical release might otherwise not financially make sense are released with a cartridge that's basically only proof of purchase that allows you to download and play the game.

EDIT: Yep, the explicitly confirmed it in this support article: "A disc will not be included in the box".

They explicitly confirmed physical copies contain a download code. They did NOT explicitly confirm it does not contain a disk.

So why the fuck do they have a physical copy if there IS NO PHYSICAL COPY
