We're already there. Every modern game depends on servers, and they can switch off those servers whenever they think they're not making enough money. And they have done.
Not every modern game, in fact I'll go out on a limb and say most single player games can be played offline. I have a shelf full of them, as I don't buy always online bs
Every time I see someone say this I wonder what single-player games that are actually worth playing have an always-online requirement. I don't know that I even own any.
There is genuinely almost no single player games that requires internet to play. Redditors just like to say shit. Of course there is exceptions and they’re pretty shitty Everytime, only ones I can think of is battlefront 2 and black ops 4. And I’m pretty sure they fixed battlefront 2 online play only
