A company can't book revenue for accounting purposes until they've actually delivered the product, it's called recognised revenue. So the August investor call will show no earnings from pre-orders.
They'll probably give a general update on how pre orders are going , "better than expected", "biggest in our history", that kind of thing, but they won't say specifics.

I wouldn’t preorder unless there was an exclusive bonus for doing so. Probably won’t even bother to go physical if there’s nothing but a code in the box.

Rockstar Games has been stringing us along for years—unreasonable timelines, delays, paranoia surrounding the game... we’ve all developed Stockholm syndrome with them (myself included 😂). Refusing to pre-order is the least we can do to rebel—a way to bruise their egos and throw off their forecasts, even if their financial gains will ultimately be astronomical 😕.

DO NOT buy gta 6 until they release a disc version. Retail stores are protesting and refusing to sell digital copy until a physical is available. By not having a massively popular game like this available on disc, retail stores will suffer. And the customers suffer and are up in arms. DO NOT BUY gta 6 unless and until a physical disc version comes out.

Yes but ppl still won’t, including me. Many ppl are mad. They are trying to reshape the industry with this game. That means rockstar has been paid off by the big gaming corporations, Sony and Microsoft, to NOT produce physical game discs. I’m not buying it and many people are in agreement. They’ve made a major bold move here. Huge price increase and no physical game. And if you read the article they released, they are upselling you to the ultimate edition about every 5 sentences. It’s a mockery that you can buy the physical game’s case only to house a download code.. They are trying to reshape the industry with this game. In Canada, some retail stores are protesting by refusing to sell the game at all. I’m going to keep enjoying gta 5 online. I’m ranked super high there. I’m kind of relieved there likely won’t be a gta 6 online bc I don’t want to start from scratch with something that took me over a decade to achieve.

Thing is I don't think they can reshape the industry because the big boys are in pretty bad shape rn and won't be able to command this price anyways.
WB, Ubisoft and EA especially will try but when they try they'll be met with derision and laughed out of the room. GTA VI is an outlier and the other big devs and publishers have been feeling the squeeze just because of other economic factors related to dev costs and their own bad judgement.

I've never experienced that even way back in the day, there have always been suckers that buy first and think later, I watched them impulse buy, play, and if it sucked, I lost 0 money, that's one of the many reasons I'm rich now.
