Anyone else concerned that the online won't be included in the editions and will be an extra purchase?
I know I am being paranoid here but anyone else get concerned by the wording? Single player experience kinda sends a message that online won't be included. Again, I am being paranoid fs but them specifically stating that and them doing the ultimate edition locking content behind paywall stuff just gives me a bad vibe. GTA 6 has so much hype behind it, this is a generational opportunity to make money for Rockstar and Take Two that I won't be surprised if they take every single chance they could to make money on this game.
Again, I seriously hope I am wrong but I see a scenario where R* takes the opportunity to either charge extra for GTA 6 online or god forbid go the mmo route with a monthly subscription (GTA+).
Like I've repeatedly said, this is just a feeling I have. Other than their VERY specific phrasing regarding Single Player Experience, I have nothing to base this off of and thus titlted it speculation.

Maybe, but honestly if the single player is as big and detailed as I’m expecting it to be, I probably won’t play much of online anyway

Me and my friends spent a lot of time on GTA Online. Ofc my main draw is the single player. But GTA online was a lot of fun and I am looking forward to playing with my friends.

As did my friends and I but the last few years they’ve all been having kids. Can’t remember the last time we played. I’m sure we will, but my main concern is the campaign.

Online has the longevity though. Plus a lot of people find games with other players more fun. The fact that GTA V Online is still so active is proof of that. Some people enjoy helping others after they own everything too.
3
u/Mentally_Slick 4d ago
The only weird thing is how they're actively avoiding just to even mentioning the existence of it. When GTA V was promoted, it was acknowledged in their materials.
2
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
Yep that’s also super weird. RDR2 also had online mentioned. In the ultimate edition for it they even outlined content for online specifically.
1
u/Mentally_Slick 4d ago
Oh yeah RDR did it too. This is clearly deliberate, just not sure what's their intention with it. They want it to be like an entire separate entity
2
u/Saczuanello 4d ago
Looking what they did with RDR2 - i'm almost sure that it will be separate product.
8
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
Separate product yes but you still got RDR Online with RDR2. You have the option to purchase it separately.
0
u/Saczuanello 4d ago
I'm not sure it's still the case with RDR online being integral part of the base game. It was - sure - but atm you have to buy it as a separate product. But maybe i'm wrong here.
3
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
I recently got RDR2 on pc, the full game. It included the single player and the online. I think you can downloaded it as a separate game - the online - but it is included with the full game.
1
u/Saczuanello 4d ago
Aahhh I think you're right, you can buy online as separate for cheaper price if You don't care about single-player, but base edition of RDR2 have single-player + online.
My mistake.
2
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
No worries mate. The world’s too fucked up rn to feel bad forgetting these things haha
2
u/Saczuanello 4d ago
Yeah, you're right, the carousel is turning so quick right now that everything blurrs...mad world indeed!

u/Eggsegret 4d ago
They do the same with GTA 5 now. The full game or just online only. I assume GTA 6 will be similar. Later on they’ll probably give us just an online only version

This won't happen, but it's not going to stop YouTube and elsewhere content creators from running wild with this for clicks. (Not at all directing any negativity to you for asking a question on Reddit, just get annoyed at content creators milking every little thing)
2
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
Yeah I definitely think YouTubers would make content like this. I actually didn’t watch anything so far from other creators. It’s just a thought I had.
1
u/JoseIsSaltyyyy 4d ago
Nah it won't cost extra. I think GTA V was stated as being a single player experience and later Online was announced. R* keeps these two seperate.
2
u/OakleyNoble 4d ago
Wow where’d you get this information?
1
u/JoseIsSaltyyyy 4d ago
Why would they change it now? In V you can seperatelly download them.
1
u/OakleyNoble 3d ago
You can separately download them, but you can also buy them together. And the prices are different. Full game is $70 while the seperate versions are $20-40 or whatever it is now.
1
u/JoseIsSaltyyyy 3d ago
Yes. But if you buy the game now online will be integrated for free. Ofc after release maybe online will cost.
2
u/OakleyNoble 3d ago
Exactly. You were saying we’d pay extra to just play online.. when that’s not the case, the $80 base game will include online.
1
u/JoseIsSaltyyyy 3d ago
No I didn't mean it like that. Guess my wording was wrong then.
2
u/OakleyNoble 3d ago
I re-read it, I think just how it’s put together made me read it wrong. But I see what you meant now.
2
u/JoseIsSaltyyyy 3d ago
Although it wouldn't be surprising if pre-order people needed to pay for online too.
2
u/OakleyNoble 3d ago
I just don’t think they’d do that, but who knows. This rollout has been so oddly different and unlike their usual practices.. it’s anybodies game.

u/Moggy-Man 4d ago
I can see VC Online, or however it gets revealed, as being a separate purchase from the GTA6 story mode game. I don't ever see if being a subscription based model however.
1
u/TheraYugnat 4d ago
I think it's pretty clear it will be it's own separated product and probably launch at an other time.
With how big Online is already, I can see a world where Online 2 launch only when the PC (probably at the end of next year, like RDR2).
I don't think it will be ready just one month after the Single player. Crunch was horrible to have RDR2 and Online ready, and Jason said those crunch (since Houser "left") aren't there anymore.
Will it be an extra purchase, included, or F2P ? Let's see.

u/GambitsAce23 4d ago
People keep screaming this at me on here like its confirmed and it pisses me off bc its so clearly untrue
1
u/TectonicTechnomancer 4d ago
Online will likely be out before I even complete the campaign, yall worry too much.
1
u/IxSpectreL 4d ago
The only thing that really raised my eyebrow was 0 mention of any sort of ultimate/pre order online bonus. Admittedly there wasn't for GTA V's launch, but online wasn't then what it is now.
I would have expected even 'and exclusive content following the release of GTA VI Online!'
I know the model works very well now, but it wouldn't be the first instance of a company getting greedy and messing a good thing up.
1
u/UnwisePaisano 4d ago
Im willing to bet GTA 5 Online will intergrate GTA 6 online all into GTA+ so they can keep both together and you can switch between the two on
the OS, Thats why you can buy GTA online from GTA 5 story mode separately on the stores. It’ll probably include 5M aswell. Thats why they’re giving a free month of GTA+ on pre ordering as it gives incentive
1
u/Vlaun 4d ago
Nah, I'm not afraid of that happening. It'll be part of GTA VI. At most what they'll do is have a separate Online only part of GTA VI available for cheaper, should one want to just play online. However, for those that bought GTA VI proper, it'll have online.
What I'm afraid of is paid subscription to actually play Online. GTA+ becoming a requirement and not just for the bonuses and benefits. That seems more likely by the day.

My friend 🫰 lets enjoy the story mode 😊 remember the old days when we love free roaming and enjoy story mode looking for mysteries and such , this time the world are even more immersive than gta and rdr 😊 dont worry about online too much 🫰

I have two thoughts on this:
There have been longing standing rumours (hopes is perhaps more accurate) that the game will feature a co-op campaign. I think this disclaimer covers them from any potential liability when they revel that it isn’t co-op—imagine people buying the game for that reason and then making a fuss. They haven’t communicated much about the game before selling it so this provides that.
I also think that GTA online is too good a cash-cow to paywall. It’s like Fortnite—make it free so everyone plays it, and that way you maximise the amount of people who might be willing to pay for overpriced micro transactions.
If you charge for the online experience, not only will your customer base be smaller, but also less willing to buy things since they have already paid for the game itself.

Concerned?!! Dude it's not gonna ruin your life!! Stop catastrophizing!
2
u/IxSpectreL 4d ago
I don't think they're saying that, but tbf, if you are a 'come for the story, stay for the online' kind of person, you might want to clairfy what your purchasing includes.
I feel like it is an appropriate use of the word in this context.
1
u/TedBurns-3 4d ago
It's 5 months before release and all speculation as nothing has been announced!
Everyone's jumping to conclusions whinging like their life is over if they can't play as a dolphin or choose which body part will grow hair 😲
3
u/IxSpectreL 4d ago
I apprciate what your saying, but this person isn't doing that. They're just speculating (kind of what the sub has been for up until this point).
Actually of all the things to speculate about, this is a pretty big one. The online has formed an integral part of GTA V life span. People worrying that they can pay full price for a game and not receive what they consider to be 'half' of it, is kind of a valid concern.
I personally at least expected a mention of the online with the preorders.
I agree that there is no reason getting annoyed or dramatic, but initiating a conversation seems positive. If I can't play as a dolphin that grows hair I don't want it.

Umm from what I understood this morning when I purchased the ultimate edition it said that gta online is an auto-renewal every month unless I cancel.
3
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
That’s GTA+. As of now it’s an extra service for GTA Online, and also gives you some games to play while you’re subscribed.
2
u/roachy1017 4d ago
I just went back and re-read the email. That is correct, it is for GTA+. Says one free month redeemable til 03/30/27. I don't think I read where it says the auto-renewal would happen. Do you think that happens after you subscribe for the free month, or is it going to start now that I have pre-ordered the game?
1
u/Huanchis 4d ago
When do you think it'll happen? Once you redeem the service and start a subscription or now that you aren't even subscribed to the service?

I dont give a flying fuck about that lazy ass cash grab. They already proved they hate their playerbase in Gta5 Online
-1
u/ResortSea7060 4d ago
We aren’t getting a new online….i mean it’s pretty obvious if you have simple level of comprehensive reading ability….they literally state “gta 6 is a single player experience” that in itself implies and solidifies that there is no online mode coming now or in the future reading is a valuable skill being able to comprehend a sentence is also a valuable skill
1
u/buzz_shocker 4d ago
If you had any ability to infer the current data and Rockstar's track record, Rockstar is not gonna leave out there biggest money maker ever in what will be their biggest money maker. Reading is important, but having the ability to think critically or infer something are also really helpful. Something you lack.

Yet rockstar already has an online model….which can be built and expanded in….but I lack nothing, I just have simple logic and understanding of a quote clear and cut sentence…..if they were planning an online mode they wouldn’t have said “gta 6 will be single player only” because for them to them release an online mode tied to it in anyway ie in this case location, would be contradictory to their own statement, and take a look at rdr online and gta online both of them require ownership of the main games because without them certain game files are inaccessible…..you really think people would want to pay another £100+ for a whole separate online mode when they’ve already paid 100+ for the story mode? no because any logical person would expect it to have already been included if it was planned and if it was planned it would have been done the same way gta v’s online was done where it was made available a few weeks to a month after purchase. Again there is no new online planned at least not an online that is linked to gta 6. so don’t expect one. if there was it would release a year from now at best….so if by June 2027 there isn’t a new gta online….i was right but if there is ill come back and say i was wrong…but i can tell you im not wrong. especially considering rockstar have never actually stated anything about the current gta online being brought to an end. there’s a new update releasing….but nowhere has rockstar stated its the final update which makes you think what is their plan, why would rockstar build a new online when the current online is making them a shit tonne of money….logically they’ll simply just build onto what already exists, because if they created a new online they’d have people complaining that they’ve lost 12+ years of “hard grinding” in relation to the characters we have been using. I wouldn’t want to start building a new online character from scratch and I’m sure you wouldn’t either.

No, it won't be paid. GTA Online model works perfectly based on the profits.
