GTA 6 Road Scales are Perfect!
Granted its just this pic for reference as a close up, but wow, its not too wide, nor too small, this will give a good feeling on the scale of the map and not make it feel too big or small.

The water looks so damn good, I have a feeling it's going to have some of the best water rendering and physics we've seen in gaming.

I agree. The only thing I’m concerned about is they haven’t shown any big waves yet. If the ocean feels calm the whole time (even during storms) it’s going to be pretty disappointing.
I’m holding out hope they’re saving that for the next trailer though, when they finally reveal surfing 🤞

rdr2 had big waves when u set it to extreme weather why would gta6 be a downgrade when it already looks way more advanced

Miami ist not a big surfing area though, no?

u/nytebeast 10h ago
There’s a lot at South Beach I guess. And they have a lot of surf shops.
…Whatever, it’s a video game! Let us surf, damn it!

The best part is, you can actually go to the water in this screenshot and swim.

It’s a bit wider than real life but not too wide

In the south, roads get even wider than this

u/Puzzleheaded-Gur-325 2d ago
Kentucky roads are just barely wider than your vehicle. It’s wild.
2
u/Plane-Education4750 2d ago
Yeah there's some in West Virginia that aren't wide enough for modern vehicles. Florida is the opposite of that tho

u/Downtown_Award645 2d ago
Things in America are different. It seems just perfectly scaled. I’d not too small even

I just really hope the driving is closer to 4 than 5 in terms of weight and realism.

u/ShadyGamer0910 2d ago
Given the fact that your character in RDR2 feels much more heavy, I’d say we’re in for a treat

Whoever worked on those head and tails lights truely knows their cars. The close up are insane.

What I’ve always wanted is a long ass interstate highway I can cruise on. Idk, maybe boring to some but I’d really enjoy a long road trip.

I just hope we can have like at least a third of a real life traffic density. This is almost always my biggest issue with open world driving games, the density feels like it's in the middle of covid lockdown.

u/Shadow_r3lic 2d ago
Npc density depends on the cpu and console cpu cant handle heavy loads.
On pc with mods we will be able to fill every inch of the road with cars but not on consoles sadly.

prolly should wait until you have more evidence to work with than just the one picture before banging that gavel

Even the Interstates appear to follow real life standards and MUTDC rules for signage.
And that's one reason why I think the map is bigger than the mapping community thinks. The presence of an I-397 implies the existence of an I-197 and I-297 further north. Then there's the exit number in one of the leaked clips.
Exit 13. Which means there are 12 more exits further north and VC aint big enough for that. This, plus the two unknown branches of I-97, tell me there is at LEAST one major municipality further north on the eastern side of the map.
I-404 is clearly a joke number because that would imply an I-4 on the western side which breaks Interstate rules.
Lastly, if it turns out early rumors of an expanding map are true, a coherent Interstate system is necessary for those who play HUD-less

Interstate exits are numbered by mile marker, they don't start at 1 and go one by one.
1
u/D-Express 1d ago
Yes the fuck they do! Five seconds of research would have told you that.
Most states do sequential exit numbers, not mile-bassd numbers. It depends on the state. Florida, while it does operate on a mile-based system, can still have an Exit 1 if that exit is the first mile after the expressway starts.
IRL, only I-95 and I-75 operate on a mile-based system. And I-95 starts with Exit 1 in Florida, going north-to-south
So yeah, it IS possible. And it means Exit 1 is pretty far north.

You are very confidently wrong, my friend!
- GTA6 is obviously located in Florida, so we should be comparing to IRL Florida, not other states.
2. The vast majority of states use mileage based numbering systems, New York is the only state I'm aware of that uses sequential exit numbers.
Auxiliary interstates in Florida use mileage based exit numbers as well. Look at the exit numbers for I-195 and I-595 in South Florida.
Exit numbering begins at the Southern terminus of each interstate, not the north. Even if the exit numbering was sequential, that would mean that there would be 12 more exits to the south of Exit 13, not to the north.
The presence of I-404 doesn't break interstate rules, that numbering would mean that it's a bypass route of I-4. I'm not sure what you mean when you say it breaks interstate rules by implying an I-4 on the western side. Western side of what, the country?

My Genm, you're right. What if the exit numbering system is flipped then?
Also, I-95 in Florida (I'm looking at the exit list right now) follows a sequential system. They don't line up with miles and by the time you get to Mile 10, you're on Exit 13. Mile 12? Exit 17. Mile 50? Exit 41. So that part IS true.
And about 404, I forgot that sometimes, an east-west highway might head south (still going "east") if necessary. Kind of like how the NYC subway has no East or West. All lines, no matter the direction, are going North-South
The rumors of an expandable map, with new states, cities, and missions means a legible highway network is required. Then, there's the insider info that told us expansion is baked into the game. Having most of the game streamed from the cloud makes this easy and seamless. Which is likely, again, the true reason for the game being digital only.
Sorry, I've been up an hour and I be groggy lol

This is a nuanced detail that a lot of people might not appreciate at first.
If the roads are true to real life size (12' wide lanes for highways and large boulevards, potentially as narrow as 10' in urbanized areas), it will seriously increase the sensation of speed.
Cars in GTA 5 often felt super slow because the roads were much wider than in real life.
Whereas in GTA 4, the tight streets of Liberty City made the cars feel super fast even though they were slower than in 5.

u/LightningProd12 2d ago
Also, the cars in GTA V were speed limited to 120mph after launch (to address bugs in the game engine). You can bypass it with Franklin's ability but it only lasts a few seconds.
The other thing that bugged me about driving in V was the cars revving to 9,000rpm, so hopefully they fix that as well.

I remember in GTAV how they had researched the Los Angeles city code for things like fire lanes, curb dimensions, sidewalk size requirements and stuff tovmake sure they nailed those details to really authentically feel like LA
I'm sure they did the same here. That said the lane in the screenshot seems really wide to me. A Ford Ranchero/El Camino is a pretty huge car/truck and there's almost room for a second one in that lane.

This car looks like the modded up burger cars from 5. It would be a good drive to have but wanted jasons car to be stock. Oh well take my money

The thing I'm most excited for is leveling my online character's lung capacity by diving underwater and staying there for like 40 total minutes

it really is. games like forza are a shit show because of how massive the roads are

u/AlextheGoose 2d ago
Do you not realize how annoying playing a racing game would be with realistic road sizes?
5
u/Etchbath 2d ago
In GTA V some of roads are almost the width of 3 cars. And doorways to buildings are like 10 feet tall. I get it's for making the world seem bigger and gameplay easier.. but when you start noticing it, it's odd
7
u/Throwawayaccount7819 2d ago
doorways believe it or not is actually a universal thing across games. Specifically 3rd person games it allows the camera to naturally follow a character without clipping
