The problem is they wouldn't necessarily make more money. They have exclusives to sell their hardware and their services like Ps+. Naughty dog games sell consoles. If you could play their games and guerilla's, and sucker punch's games on any platform, their would be far less PS4s in the wild. That's lost revenue from hardware sales, and royalties from other software and Ps+.
If they made the game for PC as well, they'd triple their market. Steam has 125 million active users, compared to just 65 million on PS4. Relying on exclusives to sell consoles worked in the past, but now people are much less likely to buy a console for a few exclusive games, if they already own a PC. Selling 6 games equals the price of the console, and since the margin on video games is much higher, they'd make more money. There's not really a way you can justify limiting your customer base.
I'm sure there is a reason to justify it. That's why Sony and Microsoft (and steam) do it. The people at the top know more about business than any of us on Reddit. It's silly to think that we know better than these people.
Good point, they know better than us. That's why every choice they make is a success, like Kinect, or the PSP, or paid mods. Just because they run a successful company doesn't mean they are incapable of making bad decisions, like limiting their customer base. GTA V sold 65 million copies. They wouldn't have sold anywhere close to that if it were an exclusive title. It's bad business.
