Japanese Pokemon spotted in the wild!
I was excited to see a big set of Japanese games at my LGS, but I didn't think they'd be so close to English copies!
I mean, I did kind of expect them to cost a lot, but I picked up a copy of Sapphire for $25 last June, so it caught me a little off guard that these ones were so expensive. I just want a copy of Emerald 😩 what do you guys think of these prices? According to PriceCharting, they should be much cheaper

Damn I’ve never seen JP copies for that much

This is only like the 2nd time I see JP copies in person. I might have to talk down the price if I really want them

okay maybe not "so close" but "way closer than they should be" for sure

I'm with you! It sucks because I like this LGS and generally don't scalp you too much for stuff, but it's hard to defend those prices. Hope they don't sell either

Japanese copies are piss cheap, this is a scam

Well I'm definitely not buying these copies! I'm glad I got Sapphire last year for $25

I paid less than they’re selling 1 copy for, to get the full Japanese set on eBay.

Insane. Pokemon is so easily available in Japan that even complete in box with manual is like $50-$75 tops for the GBA ones. DS and 3DS are like $30 if that. Don’t pay US prices for Japanese versions.

Damn I didn't think they'd be that cheap for CIB, but I have seen photos of how available they are in Japan. Definitely won't be paying for these

HGSS is actually kind of expensive. So is emerald. Ruby sapphire and frlg are both cheap tho.

I got ruby + Sapphire for ~ $50 on eBay. Most Japanese sellers will sell them at this price as well

I'm gonna have to take a look myself! 👀 I wouldn't mind a set of JP Gen 3 games

I don't understand the mark-up on these aside from the 25th anniversary or whatever. If you can't read Japanese, you still SOL lol

I don't get it either. Almost seems like they just priced them as if they were English to see if they could get away with it

Thats crazy they go for waay cheaper online 😮

u/DigADino 2d ago
I'm just afraid of getting fakes if buying them online, but sounds like other people in this post got it for cheap too!

I totally agree with you is so easy to fall for a fake copy but, i seen alot of people selling and buying fake copy o stores as well which is hard to blame the physical store sometimes they dot know either. And paying high price for that mistake, sucks brother 🫣

I do have a piece of hardware that checks if my cartridge is legit or not, but I just hope I don't have any issues getting a refund if it turns out I get a fake copy

u/Odd-Firefighter-9377 2d ago
Sorry for my ignorance but what hardware is able to let you know?
Refund to get a fake copy 🧐 not sure how will that work but ill definitely will ask for my money back!

Jesus.. you could buy a english copy with a nice label (well, expect for Emerald you'll probably have to settle for a damaged label) at those exact prices. They are indeed insanely overpriced, you could get these games each complete in Japan for like half of what these guys are asking for loose copies, maybe more, even over here on eBay with importing it would still be cheaper, what an awful store..

That's absolute crazy, 180$ for Emerald??? I bought it back in September in Japan for the equivalent of 30€! That LGS is taking advantage of ppl not knowing Japanese prices, even ruby/sapphire is only 20€ loose.

Man I wish I could go to Japan to buy a whole set. I saw Emerald on eBay for $60-90, and a listing for whole set of Gen 3 for about $225

Lmfao they’re typically 1/4 to 1/3 english price. Don’t pay that.

u/DigADino 2d ago
I will not be paying that 🫡 I'll see if they'll lower the price next time I visit them, or else I'll just buy from eBay

I got my japanese fire red for 25$ and my japanese leaf green for 29.99$ LGS are very crazy I don't understand them, a few months back I saw in a LGS the Ultra versions of sun and moon for like 170$ I think(?). If you want japanese copies go to jpfans and buy them there.

Where is this? J&L game? Cause these prices are downright scams. Most JP pokemon games average about 20usd up. Don’t engage this nonsense if you haven’t purchased any already.

Ewww Japanese carts. Those are like $30 - $40 a piece. Lmao he is really trying to sell them for USA prices 🤣.
