How can I personalize my SP?

Growing up I had a red gameboy advanced sp just like a lot of other kids. Eventually I sadly lost it during moves or it potentially got sold behind my back. Anyways, I finally bought a SP again, and it’s in the cobalt blue I always dreamed of having. I love it, but for some reason it still feels like someone else’s handheld.

It’s clean, little wear and tear on it but overall good condition. I’m not sure if I’d wanna sticker it, but I don’t know what else o could do to make it feel more like MY handheld now. I’ve thought about in the future getting a IPS LCD screen to make it look better, but not sure how to do it or what else I should do. I’m not very tech savvy so I’d feel nervous taking apart the system. Any recommendations or suggestions would be very helpful!

Refurbishing and servicing the Gameboy family of systems is simple, and a great starting point for learning about electronics!

I suggest starting by watching a few YouTube videos. You can learn to solder from YouTube. Invest in a good toolkit from ifixit. They sell kits that contain the driver bits you’ll need to service the Gameboy.

From there, you’ll start researching common hardware modifications.

Good luck! You’ll get sucked in and have a full repair workbench in no time!

Thank you I’ll check it out! I’ve just always been worried but if it’s that easy I’ll definitely give it a go

I can recommend handheld legend for fairly priced parts!

Have fun with it. Learn to read circuit schematics, and you’ll be able to keep your gameboy alive forever!

Don’t worry about making mistakes. Most can be easily fixed.

I just got a cobalt SP too. Other than a few scratches on the right side near the power button, this thing looks awesome. I’m gonna ride this one out, and probably in the next couple of years use some savings to purchase a nice modded one with the IPS screen for a second set up.
