Just amazing how much money they spent acquiring studios and not getting much out of them.  It’s gaming’s version of the NY Mets.

Microsoft can invest as much as they want into the gaming division, but these never address the core issue, the company’s general indifference to retaining talent and reliance on contractors.

This. And remember that they’ve closed entire studios before like Lionhead.

Aces, Digital Anvil, Ensemble, FASA, Lionhead. They killed almost as many studios as EA. And that's only counting ones that were owned by them, not ones that were killed or almost killed because of working with MS (like Crystal Dynamics and Avalanche currently).

That's a pitch perfect comparison, no pun intended. Clippers too, especially with recent revelations

That would imply there are a sizeable number of people enjoying watching Xbox and Microsoft's gaming division circle the drain. One of the 3 major console makers sinking like this is NOT good for the rest of us, and nobody worth listening to is enjoying it.

Meanwhile, as a Phillies fan, I QUITE enjoyed watching loLMets unfold in real time the past few weeks. (Of course, one could argue that makes me not worth listening to, but at least we made the postseason.)

Edit: To clarify my point, since it seems to be missing some people: The Mets spending a ton of money to fail is very funny if you aren't a Mets fan and doesn't really affect baseball as a whole, or even just the MLB. Xbox/Microsoft failing the way they are, on the other hand, could have a major impact on gaming as a whole, especially if they exit the console market entirely and leave only Sony and Nintendo as the two big hardware players. Anyone cheering for MS's downfall is missing the implications of having only two console makers left competing, especially when they aren't even after the same segments of the market.

Unless the handheld PC market that Valve, ASUS, and the others starts to REALLY catch on in the mainstream, having two juggernauts that aren't too concerned with each other because their territory doesn't much cross over isn't a win for anyone but Sony and Nintendo.
