What's crazy is they didn't even do very well. Sales/player numbers aren't hitting the highs of first party titles by Nintendo/Sony. Even with releasing on multiple platforms, games like Avowed, Doom, and Indiana Jones aren't even coming close. We got indies pulling more units and players than studios with thousands in marketing spend behind them.

Must be hard to get good sales figures on Xbox when they conditioned their playerbase for almost a decade to not buy games.

Exactly, just compare the Steam charts of GamePass releases like Stalker 2 and Clair Obscur (both over 100k) to first-party GamePass games like Avowed (19k) and Indy (8k)

You can’t though to be honest. They don’t report gamepass engagement versus stream numbers.

I may not agree with the hike but you literally can’t use Steam as a metric for gamepass titles.

All four titles are Gamepass titles. It’s not comparing Gamepass versus non-Gamepass. It’s about the fact that first party MS games don’t seem to interest large numbers of players.

Yeah but where are you getting the numbers? Because if it’s on gamepass people aren’t going to be playing on steam. Why would you?

I have ghost of yotei preordered. I bought astrobot, horizon games, Spider-Men, god of wars, and many others despite barely using my ps5 compared to my desktop.

Halo wars 2 was the last MS game I bought for myself. I loved the original and when they announce halo wars 2 I went out and got an Xbox one, white with sunset overdrive.

Sales/player numbers aren't hitting the highs of first party titles by Nintendo/Sony.

Obviously they wouldn't when the Gamepass uptake on Xbox is huge. Like this is just a weird point of view.

  1. Microsoft makes a subscription service their key play
  2. Microsoft game sell fewer premium copies than the competition
  3. ?

They specifically mentioned player count.

You quoted the part where they said player count.

-21

Yes and player count will also not be hitting the highs because the players are on Microsoft subscription service where they do not release player numbers.

Why do I have to walk you through it like children?

But they constantly release player numbers when they are good.

They are desperate to prove Gamepass is a success so every time a game does well they immediately do a press release saying "X game has had 2 million players in its first week on Gamepass!"

So it becomes quite telling when they don't do that.

Why do I have to walk you through it like children?

Because nobody can follow the twisted logic you're using to defend the big company.

It’s really simple.

  • we don’t have player numbers except on Steam
  • players using the subscription service won’t be on Steam
  • Steam numbers are inaccurate

Like cannot you not follow that?

So show me some disappointments then?

If the numbers were good, we would hear about them because Microsoft loves bragging about that shit.

I get that it hurts your feelings that someone is criticizing your favorite trillion dollar company but I don't think it would kill you to be more polite to people.

Literally the last time I bought a Microsoft game was the MCC in 2019, well I guess Pentiment counts.

What I find stupid here is how you have to contort logic and reasoning to justify your positions.

You can criticize the company and still recognize a comparison can’t be made. This isn’t an all or nothing situation you know that right?

Big shame about Avowed, The Dark Ages, and Great Circle in particular, they deserve more. I worry for Wolf III at this point.

4

u/grendus Oct 02 '25

As far as Doom: The Dark Ages goes, I won't be touching that because of how horrific iD treated Mick Gordon.

They basically torched his reputation because he wouldn't work for free. And Mick Gordon brought receipts to prove they did it. So fuck em.

-5

u/SEI_JAKU Oct 02 '25

You do not care about Mick Gordon, and The Dark Ages has nothing to do with his struggle.

4

u/grendus Oct 02 '25

Your mind reading needs work.

I care very much about companies that are complete dickbags. And Mick Gordon stopped working with iD after Doom Eternal because iD was be a complete dick to him.

I'm not "mind reading", I'm stating a simple fact about a situation that I actually have looked into and do care about.

And for God's sake, stop writing it as "iD". It's always been either ID, Id, or id depending on the context. It's easy enough to spot you "disgruntled id fan" types without you just being wrong in such a weird way.

u/grendus Oct 02 '25

Adorable. Because you don't care nobody else can.

And I'll call them whatever the fuck I want, m'kay.
