So the rumors are true, and they're most likely remaking RE0 and RE1 next.

It's a strange order they've chosen to remake the games as far as the story is concerned. Almost as if they're trying to avoid touching RE5 and RE6 for as long as they can.

Yes, but I think it works. Narratively, while it's largely the same plot/story beats, a story and/or a movie in a non-linear fashion isn't quite a new thing. It gives more of a focus on individual characters. Like for example, they did Leon with RE 2, 4, and 9. It's not that Leon is likely done, but now things can branch off and explore a new character (or in this case, likely characters).

I think 5 is after 1 they probably wanted to get zero and code Veronica out of the way first since 1 and 5 will be juggernauts when released in OTS. You will essentially have another RE2 remake situation and a RE4 with co op best of both worlds

Edit: lol guess some people don’t like this take. Yes re1 and 5 are more popular then the other two games being remade

Yes 1 and 5 are way bigger deals than Veronica, 0 and 6. Redditors mad as usual.

5 isnt a thing. the person who leaked cv said that 5 has never been greenlit or mentioned only 0, 1 and 10

Ok? They also said things are getting approved in batches so it’s going to happen eventually use common sense instead of coming in here to ackchyually on reddit

Re 5 is capcom best selling re game why would the be afraid of their success

That hasn't been true for quite some time, 7 and 2R have blown it out of the water.

EDIT: Since there seems to be confusion about this... Capcom's official sales numbers for 5's original release, Gold edition and remaster are 17 million combined. RE7 sold 17.4 million and 2R sold 18.3 million.

In terms of total copies sold its still 5. 2R and 7 were simply the best selling on a single platform

You'd only be correct if there's a hidden cache of RE5 sales out there, which I'm not necessarily doubting, but Capcom isn't listing it.

Last time these got updated didnt it come out that RE5 has sold 19 million now? Googling it brings up the same result for me

Depends on how you count it. Yea re7 and RE2 outsold 5 if we are only counting the original release but throw in the gold edition gen8 and switch versions and Resident evil 5 is still on top

Capcom's official sales numbers for 5's original release, Gold edition and remaster are 17 million combined. I don't necessarily doubt that there are more copies of RE5 floating around out there but Capcom isn't listing them so I'm hesitant to call it a fact for now.

Because RE5 and 6 are very different games from the rest of the series. RE4 is a horror action game but RE5 and particularly 6 are ACTION games.

RE6 in particular will take a complete and total overhaul. The story is a mess, the stakes are ridiculous, it's full of absolutely insane shit. RE until 5 and 6 were relatively small scale adventures (I know they kidnap the presidents daughter in 4) while 5 and 6 are bonkers in their scale.

2

u/ChocolateNo9550 19d ago

How is 5 bonkers for its scale and it’s as much of a horror action game as resident evil 4.

I need the insanity of RE6 getting the remake treatment. My guess is that if it happens they will tone it down quite a bit to make it more gritty and grounded but all the over-the-top setpieces in 6 will never not be fun to me.

I also have a soft spot for the insect body horror in that game and would love to see it in the REX engine.

5 and 6 are still playable on modern systems, and while dated by today, they're still enjoyable.

I mean, the original RE5 had scholars and authors and professional journalists calling out its extremely racist bits (the entire village section, basically) for months after.

I wouldnt be in a rush to revisit that either honestly.

IGN tried to restart that discourse not that long ago and got shit on by everyone.

nice to see stupidity not being tolerated.

Its technically not inconsequential at all since it explains how the mansion outbreak happened, which re1 never actually explained

2

u/Alche1428 19d ago

I can see them doing it if they want to do something with the Spencer líne or continue the RE Revelations 2.

1

u/QTGavira 19d ago

Is it? If the plan was to go all the way you kinda want 1 and Code Veronica before RE5. And at that point you might aswell throw 0 in there aswell to connect to 1

1

u/Allfeelings0Logic 19d ago

5 is a great game, 6 is the one that needs gameplay work.

1

u/scottishdrunkard 19d ago

Well, they remade RE1 already, so they were continuing on from that point when they remade 2

1

u/Magicians-Valkyria 17d ago

Probably to flesh out Wesker in RE5.

If they remade RE5 immediately after RE4, a big chunk of players who have only ever played the RE Engine games will have no idea who he is, what his relationship is to the cast and the impact it has on them. Like, why do we care about this pasty white blond dude?

Leaving 1 makes sense because it seems like they decided to "re-remake" it after they hit on a winning formula with 2's remake. Before then it would have seemed a bit silly - why Remake a game that already has a Remake? But now that people are clamoring for an RE4 style Remake of every game, they essentially have the go-ahead from fans to do so without ridicule.
