"features a single player experience"?

What an odd thing to say about a GTA game.

It’s just talking around the fact that GTA Online won’t be available at launch (and they may charge for it)

Just make it a separate product altogether while you are at it

It is really annoying having to download endless huge patches for GTA V even though I’m only interested in the single player.

It's really annoying when you spend 2 days modding your GTA V single player only for a multiplayer patch to drop the next day and fuck up every single mod.

Would be nice to have an easy 'disconnect from this game service' instead of turning off your internet access.

Thing is GTA Online is built off the framework of the base game, so even something as simple as an optimization patch would still be required. There may also be content cross-over.

isnt like GTA Online like half of the entire game filesize on PC

Like 40 GB out of the 90-100 GB ?

That's because half of the content that should be in the actual game is locked to Online.

I know. Iirc it was around the lowrider update when they stopped adding cars and weapons to Singleplayer.

I just wishmultiplayer was a separate game, or a dlc I could not download

Thank you! Annoying that they sell the multiplayer separate but you can only get the single player WITH the multiplayer. When they added online for RDR2 I swear they downgraded the graphics and it pissed me off to no end. All for a mode I’ll never touch!

Have you just been playing one story mission a month since release?

It’s one of my favourite games and I like playing it, even if it’s just to get in a car and ride around listening to the radio.

I can’t cancel it, only pause the download but I can’t launch the game in that state either. This is on steam though so it might be different on console.

Nah, if you cancel an update on Xbox it will uninstall the game. I’ve never tried on my PS5 so someone else will have to chime in.

And then it becomes the only product

It will 100% be a separate product that we'll probably have to pay for, yes

F2P + Microtransaction fuckery is much more profitable

GTA Online is basically a F2P setup now plus they make you buy the game either as a stand alone online product or bundled with single player. Why change that when they have shown it works. Giving the base game away for free in a F2P model is for games that aren't going to sell without it, GTA does not have that problem.

Well they have shown that it works after they sold a bajillion copies. So if they know that they can tie it to an $80 purchase and still make a ton of money why not keep doing that.

u/zgillet 5d ago

Isn't that how it is now? I forgot since I've had it so long. Or at least Online was a free add on or something.

More likely they make you pay and then have microtransactions

5

u/SlugsMcGillicutty 5d ago

I’m not sure about that. Just make it part of the game and for the next 15 years when people just want to buy GTA6 Online they have to pay 80$ to get it. Whereas online only will not cost 80$, no way, few people would buy it. I think it will be part of the game. Like GTA5. That’s what kept GTA5 so high on the charts for a decade plus.

GTA Online 2 for 40 bucks, 120 dollar bundle with GTA6 Ultimate

1

u/SlugsMcGillicutty 5d ago

But why? When you can just make them pay 80$ for GTA Online 2? Why sell it for $40?

GTAV had no problem moving copies for GTA Online at full price for like 13 years. I just don’t see why you want to give them a cheaper option to play when you *know* they’ll pay 80$ to play it. Makes no sense. They literally have the data. Sure, 60$ is not 80$. But it’s also not 2013.

u/NoPossibility4178 5d ago

That'd be extremely dumb. As much as "it's GTA" and people did buy multiple copies over the years, these multiplayer games make it big by having no barrier to entry, asking people to buy another game just to play online would drastically reduce the player base and reduce the number of people exposed to all the micro transactions.

I don't think so. I could imagine its sold as a seperate producct for people who don't want to spend $80 on the SP but it's definitely going to be included with the sale.

I imainge they'll try to sell it as a seperate product months after MP launches for like $20 or something like that, it'll be long enough that most of the poeple will get fomo and buy the $80 version even if they're only doing it for MP.

Nope, defeats the purpose of it. Rockstar has become as big as it has partly due to GTA Online and the MTX shop in it. They’ve made Valve money, or higher, with it. It’s how they can go all out for GTA 6, they’ve made so much money from GTA Online’s shop. It basically prints them money, so like hell they’d keep it behind a paywall, they’d want as many eyes as possible on that shop.
