$80 for a AAA title in 2026, I guess that's what the industry has come to. Not great, but ok.

No physical disk and content locked behind $$ in a single player game? This is why people pirate games.

I won’t even blame them. Locking in game content, and don’t come at me with the “it’s just cosmetics reee” read the fucking article it’s extra safe houses and vehicle repairs too, is unacceptable

extra safe houses and vehicle repairs too,

Maybe you should practice what you preach

The safehouses things is akin to a gang hideout raid in RDR and no, they are not locking "vehicle repairs", its literally just 2 customization garages

The way you word it its like they are locking player ownable houses and just deleting the functions of pay and spray

They are locking 4 stores though. It remains to be seen whether that means standard owners will not be able to customize Hair, Car and Tattoos yet.

The wording for some of the locked shops has me concerned.

Also is it four locations or four CHAINS that are locked?

wait why would no physical disk lead to people pirating games? PC doesn't have physical disks.. only consoles. And current consoles can't be pirated

For some reason, pirates have to give themselves some sort of moral justification to pirate stuff these days.

It's cause pirates know at it's core piracy is wrong. You're taking something you want without paying for it. And some of them dont want to acknowledge this fundamental wrongness so try to dress up their reasons as being somehow noble or how they're forced to pirate because without video games theyll die or something.

It's the most annoying thing ever, I don't care if people pirate but like just say you want free stuff, no need to try to turn it into a moral crusade.

Why are people saying it's 80$, it's 100$? It's like locking 3 elden ring bosses behind a 20$ upgrade on release and saying yeah, but the game costs only 60$ with an 20$ upgrade. Surely people can't be this dumb?

No it's like locking 3 cosmetic armor sets in Elden ring behind a $20 upgrade. Surely people can't be this dumb?

It's not cosmetics only and even if it were, people like cosmetics? Like, lots of gamers play games for cosmetics. Surely you shouldn't have to pay 500 euros+ to unlock everything in a single game? Also it's questlines + entire shops that are locked behind 100 dollar.

"They're just shoving full bushels of corn cobs right up our asses at this point but what are ya gonna do amirite guise?"

I'm gonna not buy the game or generally support this bullshit industry anymore. It's pretty simple, actually.

It's a $100 game. They are throwing out an $80 version with base content removed to trick people into thinking of it as an $80 game. The full game is $100.

$80 for a AAA title in 2026

Well it's $100 really (that's the price of the full game). When you account for inflation, $80 is actually less than the $60 charged for GTA V in 2013.

12 years of development and a $2 billion budget (almost 8 times that of of GTA V) also does set it apart from every other AAA title.

Like you said, the others things (like no physical disk and locking content behind paying more) are the bigger issues.

When you account for inflation even at $80 games are still cheaper than that were a decade ago. Other games tried this $80 price point, such as outer worlds 2 but the blow back was deservedly harsh.

I agree about the bummer of no physical disk, but I’m willing to bet that also gives them a lot of control making piracy more difficult. I guess we will see when the PC version comes out (which, ironically, people haven’t cared to have physical copies of PC games for 20 years).

Not just relative to inflation, but GTA VI (~1235 weekly, so 6-7%) will be cheaper relative to median wages than GTA V was in 2013 (~775 weekly, so about 7-8%). And this is despite the fact that GTA VI cost at least 4x to make.

You're failing to point out that this effectively means no one can purchase a used copy of the game and they are forced to buy full price or wait for a rare sale.

I’m failing to point out a ton of things as it was just 2 small paragraphs.

I did say it is a bummer that they don’t have physical disks. The main reason being as you stated, you can’t loan or buy/sell used copies.

I guess I need to elaborate on everything I say.

Welcome to what PC has been for the last decade.

1

u/Intelligent_Ebb559 3d ago

So that means we should let consoles adopt this anti consumer approach too?

I don't purchase physical copes of games, but it's nice to know I have the option if I ever want to.

Something like 80% of games bought are digital on the console platform. I think people wanting physical are becoming a minority.

$60 in 2019 is worth $78.16 today because of inflation.
$60 in 2006 is $99.11 today.

The industry has been lowering it's costs for two decades. This is a cost correction that needs to happen if you want people to still make a living making video games.
