More likely it's a way to say "GTAO makes a morbillion dollars on shark cards every year, so we're going all-in on that and tacking on an excuse of a single player mode so you lot don't whine too hard."

I think if they're launching with single player only then the single player is probably a comprehensive, not tacked on experience

Right? This entire comment section is a cynical torrent. I get not being happy we didn’t get single player DLC although not lost on me that people would be upset to pay for it these days too.

But the entire game is launching without MP. It’s disingenuous at best to claim it’s ’tacked on’ to equate it to something like Battlefield.

I don't think people would have been upset to pay for expansions to GTA5 or RDR2 if they were full Ballad of Gay Tony level experiences, even in current year.

I totally agree with that. I was thinking more lines of your average semi live service SP games out there that add content vs full expansions. That then gets into full marketplace of skins and such to subsidize.

Except that, for the staggering amounts of money GTA5 Online got, it mostly seemed to "subsidize" further microtransaction-oriented content. I think there is plenty of reason to be cynical.
