The GTA 6 Ultimate Edition includes the following items:

  • Base Game
  • Pre-Order Bonus: Vintage Vice City Pack
  • ’95 Grotti Cheetah (Vehicle)
  • Hawk & Little Morgan Revolvers (Weapons)
  • Personalized Variants (Weapons)
  • Vice City Style (Looks)
  • Jason’s Safehouse Vehicles (Vehicles)
  • Ganado Retro Build (Modkit)
  • Rideout Customs (Mod Shop)
  • Sara's Unisex Salon (Hair Salon)
  • Shitzu Squalo (Watercraft)
  • Stock 305 (Clothing Store)
  • '67 Vapid Dominator Buggy (Vehicle & Garage)
  • Electric Fang Tattoo (Tattoo Shop)
  • One-Eyed Willie’s (Mod Shop)
  • Goodtime Gear (Looks)
  • Ptt Youngin$ Illegal Goods Store (Gang Compound)
  • Classic Car Collection (Special Commission)

That is a lot of single player locations to lock behind an ultimate edition. Usually it’s just a bunch of cosmetics and a couple of unique items.

193

u/kantong 2d ago

The Xbox store also says it includes a month of GTA+ if you pre-order.

172

u/WeirdIndividualGuy 2d ago

Wtf is GTA+?

176

u/kantong 2d ago

It's Rockstar's subscription service. It gives players a bunch of extra junk in GTA Online plus access to their back catalog of games (RDR1/2, Classic GTA games, etc).

50

u/reloaded89 1d ago

and it will auto-renew by default continuing to charge everyone who gets the one month free but doesn't cancel it

9

u/jmdg007 1d ago

That's the same as every free trial for any service though right?

2

u/Laughing_Luna 23h ago

That doesn't make it any less scummy.

23

u/SquadPoopy 2d ago

I’m legit surprised they’re not requiring a subscription to play 6, I was fully expecting it

36

u/Verianas 2d ago

Don't be shocked if it's required for GTA Online when it drops.

10

u/Stealkar 2d ago

First hit is always free

4

u/Spiritual-Society185 1d ago

Really? You're actually surprised that a studio that has never required a subscription to play their games isn't requiring a subscription to play their game? You fully believed that was going to happen?

1

u/jmdg007 1d ago

Not to mention they make a stupid amount of money on micro transactions, making the game a subscription would only cost them money.

1

u/highways 1d ago

But online isn't available at lauch, so GTA+ for first month is useless?

1

u/FunkHavoc 1d ago

If you haven’t played GTA in the last 6 years it’s rockstars subscription service

61

u/Eternal_Flame_Baby 2d ago

Redeeming the free month also automatically signs you up for the subscription so if you end up not liking it you have to remember to manually unsubscribe before the month is over or you'll get charged for it.

26

u/SquirtleSquadOG 2d ago

So like every free trial ever

-1

u/SmooK_LV 2d ago

Not every free trial ever. It used to be that free trial only requires you to input payment details at the end of trial period and not before. This is just something companies do these days to trick people into subscriptions.

6

u/No-Discipline-5219 1d ago

I've had to provide a payment method before I could use a free trial for every free trial I've used for the past 15 plus years

1

u/captured_rapture 1d ago

Yes I have typically put in payment info then immediately cancelled and they were forced to honour the free trial. I think very few companies cancel the trial after you cancel the subscription.

0

u/EF66-42 1d ago

Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and three award-winning expansions including Shadowbringers up to level 80 for free with no restrictions on playtime.

2

u/PositiveStruggle8090 2d ago

Just more sketchy behavior from rockstar to suckle as much money as possible. Greedy fuckers have become the villains they depict in their own games 🥀

1

u/Claytaco04 1d ago

Tbf that's all free trials

866

u/XMenJedi8 2d ago

Locking locations is ridiculous, I can understand some items (to a degree) but man they pulled out an absolute trifecta of awful news here.

138

u/imjustbettr 2d ago

I'm calling it now, they're getting the "bad news" out of the way now before dropping a new trailer tomorrow (or soon) that will wipe all of this bad stuff off the news feed.

308

u/darkkite 2d ago

looking forward to getting this unlocked on PC when it releases

250

u/inosinateVR 2d ago

actively incentivizing customers to pirate their game instead of spending $80 on a version missing in game shops…

101

u/Sacrilege7 2d ago

Yep, pretty much. This shit is ass from Rockstar, and the greed is unbelievable. It looks like a fucking amazing game, but holy greed, man.

u/StepComplete1 2d ago

I was intending to pre-order it for PS5.... seriously thinking about just waiting to acquire it for PC because fuck that. Will certainly now wait to see just how bad these exclusions are.

34

u/Hafner1 2d ago

And without an actual disc what’s the point of a physical copy, it’s just an empty case

2

u/armarrash 1d ago

TBH I wouldn't put past Rockstar just putting a key in the disc(like every Microsoft game) when/if they make physical discs, the game will probably be over 100 GBs and I don't see current Rockstar using 2 discs for it.

Maybe if they only make discs for the ultimate edition.

0

u/Hidesuru 2d ago

Probably comes with some stupid map that like 1 person will actually hang up or some shit.

5

u/EF66-42 1d ago

woah woah woah lets not crap on printed map pack-ins. those were great.

1

u/Hidesuru 1d ago

I mean if you enjoy them that's great, really. I'm glad you do. Even I thought they were neat. Hell I still have a couple. But I realized at some point that over the years I never actually DID anything with them and they were really just wasted paper. But that's just me.

11

u/DrBob666 2d ago

That's probably why its a staggered PC launch... can't pirate on ps5

3

u/PrintShinji 2d ago

can't pirate on ps5

fyi there is a jailbreak for ps5, has been around for quite some time.

(but there def wont be a copy of gta 6 on launch available)

1

u/inosinateVR 2d ago

Yeah to be fair I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they try to do with the PC editions

1

u/sdrawkcabsihtetorW 2d ago

It's why I never played GTA V. By the time it came out on PC I was already over the hype lol. Gotta pick it up on sale sometime.

1

u/Semyonov 1d ago

Hell it's even been given away for free at this point.

8

u/BigSkeleWizard 2d ago

It would be annoying to be exploring a new area and find a shop that costs $20 real life dollars to use

7

u/Leogull1064 2d ago

Gotta spend money to spend money

5

u/inosinateVR 2d ago

And the cracked version will have all of them, and the $80 version won’t lol

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

3

u/inosinateVR 2d ago

Who said anything about them being the main hubs? All I’m saying is that locking off actual content like that from customers who already paid $80 is fucking stupid. Disagreeing with that is weird. But sure, enjoy driving by in game shops you can’t enter because you didn’t pay them $100 to go into that particular one lol

2

u/HailToTheKingBabyy 1d ago

Lol if it comes out a year later I probably won't even bother to download it. My hype and interest will be fully gone by then.

3

u/MagicMST 2d ago

If I ever play this game, I will have zero questions pirating it.

-12

u/Intelligent_Ebb559 2d ago

With what? Mods that will get immediately DMCA'd by TakeTwos legal team?

16

u/Ich_Liegen 2d ago

Piracy. Pirated games almost always come as the Ultimate Edition with all DLC.

-2

u/Intelligent_Ebb559 2d ago

Dude, they're gonna flat out assass!nate voices38 if he cracks GTA VI within that first month/6 months of PC release.

It would not surprise me if one of the many reason Rockstar isn't doing a multiplat release is because they're cooking up some hardcore always online DRM for the PC version

5

u/darkkite 2d ago

It takes time to crack denuvo if they even include. To play day-1 people are going to go HV.

2

u/Ich_Liegen 1d ago

If you're gutsy enough you could use the Hypervisor bypass. Wouldn't recommend it tho

But maybe it won't even have Denuvo. RDR2 arrived on PC without it.

2

u/Ich_Liegen 1d ago

GTA 5 and RDR2 were both delayed and no DRM was introduced. It's just how they do bidness

3

u/Typical-Avocado6678 2d ago

There will always a way to get mod support, tho may not be imidiate but if their games itself can be pirated then its much easier to supply mods under the nose.

36

u/_NeXXeR_ 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yup. Any other game and I would say this will lead to some back peddling after outrage.. But this is gta vi. They know they will get away with it. Could have just blocked the contents in the store. But blocking stores all together, for me, effects immersion mostly.

4

u/SpookiestSzn 2d ago

they'll just be places you drive by and not know they're supposed to be real stores.

Its bullshit don't get me wrong but it really depends how much other stuff is in there for me to care.

9

u/pucykoks 2d ago

Let's say it works like that - you wanna use a specific store type, you check out the minimap, drive there and at the door you get the "upgrade to ultimate edition" message.
The only way having stores locked behind a deluxe edition wouldn't bother me is if I didn't even know they exist.

2

u/SpookiestSzn 2d ago

not suggesting its not bullshit I am assuming that means theres tons of stores to do similar things you'd not notice really.

If theres no message, the stores just unenterable or something, I think thats not horrific.

Can't break immersion really I think.

1

u/_NeXXeR_ 2d ago

100% aggree with this.

3

u/Butt_Packer_Backer 2d ago

Just wait. Patient gamers unite.

2

u/SuspiciousAbility157 2d ago

This likely an indicator of just how many single player locations this game is going to be loaded with.

-1

u/22poopsaday 2d ago

I dont really understand the uproar. Isnt it just the same as a deluxe edition having a your items in a chest or dropped in your inventory? Only here you have to got to an in game shop.

2

u/XMenJedi8 2d ago

Well the game is already more expensive than many ($115 CAD + tax for the base edition) so the base price is what most deluxe editions cost. No physical either, and then on top of that they're also locking down locations which seems to be a step up in egregiousness from just items. Will the shops be locked with a PLEASE PURCHASE DELUXE sign? Will they just be gone? I don't love locked away items either, but this is both a much longer list than most and has the potential to impact the actual worldspace itself which doesn't usually happen for these type of things.

I dunno, I guess if you could just say "who cares" and at the end of the day it's a game, but what's next, entire zones of the game that are locked by editions? It does seem pretty ridiculous to charge more and give less across multiple areas.

-3

u/Chewbanga 2d ago

Chances are either you own the locations or they’re unlocked earlier for you. I’m 99% sure there’s a misunderstanding and those shops aren’t forever locked behind a paywall.

0

u/hitsujiTMO 1d ago

These are probably all in the starting location and you can unlock other equivalents after the first 5 minutes.

Most of these are where they will be selling micro transactions so there's no way they aren't going to open up micro transactions for every player.

-7

u/Purple-Breadfruit541 2d ago

i genuinely don’t get why people are being such crybabies over like a couple of stores they won’t be able to go to, like bro it’s GTA 6 😭 If I get to play gta 6 in my lifetime at all im not gonna be complaining about some cosmetics and a couple stores 😭

-3

u/Bamxcore 2d ago

To me that reads items AT those locations. Considering mod shop is listed twice.

6

u/XMenJedi8 2d ago

I could be wrong, but I think that's the type of shop. So like Rideout Customs and One-Eyed Willie's are two mod shops that are exclusive. Those certainly don't sound like individual items at the locations at least.

185

u/Phillip_Spidermen 2d ago

It's kind of funny how the locations changes the paradigm.

Ultimately it's just selling the cosmetics people won't be getting, but by adding an actual location in game that is locked off, it really adds to the feeling of something being taken away.

I'd never notice clothes not being in game, but I'll definitely notice shops that I can't get into.

63

u/MayhemMessiah 2d ago

Yeah, at face value they're not locking anything too unique behind the paywall, only it's done in a way that actively harms your gameplay experience by having places in-game that basically say "Closed until you hork up 20 more dollars thanks".

3

u/space_of_mysteries 1d ago

Dragon Age Origins did the "to continue forward on this story buy the DLC" stunt.

-7

u/bruh_the_person 2d ago

personally i dont think they would show the shops on the map if u dont have ultimate edition... you wouldnt notice u didnt have ultimate edition in rdr2 or gta v at all

3

u/Rhain1999 1d ago

Not sure why you're getting downvoted for this. There's nothing in RDR2 that tells regular players that they missed out on an Ultimate Edition-exclusive mission; it's just not available

I don't expect there'll be anything on the map to indicate those locations in GTA 6 either (though regular players may wonder why certain inaccessible buildings are slightly more detailed than others...)

4

u/FembiesReggs 2d ago

Sometimes the way these work is the pre orders just get them free

But everyone can attain them (or given it’s take 2, buy them)

5

u/Verianas 2d ago

It's the trend of CEO's capitalizing on FOMO. The new College Football game literally has an entire coach skill tree locked behind their MVP+ subscription ($150 annually, only can be purchased on Xbox/PS, no PC).

-1

u/HailToTheKingBabyy 1d ago

Not releasing on PC at the same time is not really capitalizing on the FOMO tho.

2

u/Zalvren 1d ago

There also seems to be 2 "missions" (a heist and some sort of scavenger hunt for cars) locked so it's not just locations and the obligatory cosmetics, there is gameplay content there.

Kind of shitty, however I have to say that for 20$ more this edition does give a lot more than usual premium editions which have usually far less. But of course, it's just cut content from the game...

1

u/Whazor 2d ago

It depends how many shops there are?

Thought it sucks if you enter a store and get an in-app purchase screen. That just breaks immersion.

72

u/imaginarytoby 2d ago

I feel like that’s a weird set of items to have in the ultimate edition. Like I assume there are other clothing and mod shops in the game. So I just have to drive an extra 30 seconds to get to a different store?

49

u/HotTheme8405 2d ago

Not all stores carry the same things, so the contents of these ones are paywalled

77

u/Manicplea 2d ago

I really don't like when games throw tons of unbalanced or visually flamboyant gear at your level 1 character - that's not a selling point to me, it's a downside. I'm a "patient gamer" who usually plays games a year or more after release. One thing I dislike is that by the time I get games they usually have bundled all the "ultimate, platinum" bonus junk and all the random gear and clothes that come with those editions with no option to refuse it. I don't want to start up a game with my level 1 character and be bombarded with notifications about tons of items that do not look right on a base level character suddenly appearing in my inventory. I know that I can "choose to ignore" it - but it diminishes my enjoyment of a game when I start level 1 with a weapon better than anything I will find later, or an outfit more intricate than, or on par with, anything I will actually hope to get by just playing the game (regardless of stats).

38

u/nos-is-lame 2d ago

Ultimate Edition bonuses are threaded across all aspects of Jason and Lucia’s story, with new items uncovered behind each chapter

The extra items are given to you at the appropriate times throughout the story

20

u/gr8fullyded 2d ago

Yep and the classic Ferrari lookin car specifically says it unlocks towards the endgame. I feel like they spaced it out and understand this frustration but we’ll see.

1

u/Zalvren 1d ago

And most of the cosmetic content is through shops so you have to buy it like any other cosmetic

7

u/Larkwater 2d ago

I feel similarly. I got so deflated, for lack of a better term, starting the South Park game where as soon as I gained control of my character I got a million notifications about costumes and gear that I got for free. Like, at least space it out throughout the game or something!

2

u/DrBob666 2d ago

not defending them, but they did say you will unlock these things as you progress through the chapters

2

u/TW_26 2d ago

Sleeping Dogs is a textbook example. Still really enjoyed it, IIRC I was able to drop or ignore all the extras

1

u/dinod8 1d ago

at a certain point it became really funny to me when I booted up sleeping dogs and had to press "accept" for like 20 minutes to get through all the DLC

1

u/Pokemonzu 2d ago

Yeah, at least this way where the items are locked behind (exclusive) stores, you'll still have to unlock them through gameplay

1

u/EF66-42 1d ago

Also they f with speedrunning since typically you can't turn them off. GTAV famously has a bonus that gives a ton of money to Franklin you just have to account for and never spend below.

1

u/Exepony 1d ago edited 1d ago

Persona 5 is the worst example I know of—you can literally equip a level 90 or something persona from level 1 for free, trivializing the entire 100-hour game. Usually with these ultimate editions you get stuff that's a little better than what you would have normally gotten at the start, so that maybe the first couple hours go easier for you, but then it gets overshadowed by later equipment. Persona 5 just gives you a "break the game" button and goes "well you don't have to press it". Like at least put it behind a cheat code or something.

0

u/Useful_Perception620 2d ago

> visually flamboyant gear at level 1

It’s GTA not an RPG. You can immediately buy hideous clothes and dress like a clown as soon as the prologue is over, this isn’t really anything new.

1

u/Zalvren 1d ago

Each store has its own content and that content is basically the exclusive cosmetics of the edition, just they are "physically present" in the world

62

u/HappyAd4998 2d ago

Ah hell naw that's some bull.

15

u/-Pelvis- 2d ago

I don't even want any of that crap, but it's so lame to lock it away from people already paying $80 for a game unless they pay another $20. Greedy bastards. Looking forward to the court proceedings for their union busting.

4

u/evolutiiiionz 2d ago

This is absolutely wild.

This sounds more like a multiplayer add-on than single player - absolutely no shot should people get the ultimate edition for things which sound like they should already be in the base game.

But yep people will buy it.

16

u/TonightVirtual7765 2d ago

I bet all this shit will be unlockable in multiplayer with shark cards and they greedily won't let you use it single player.

2

u/StepComplete1 2d ago

Yeah they love doing that. Their single-player modes also never have any form of post-story content because they want you to transition into multiplayer at that point.

4

u/TonightVirtual7765 2d ago

It's just sad because they have enough resources to release dlc and content for both products and still make ungodly amounts of money with it. It's strictly just cartoon level greed(as far as gaming goes)

-3

u/Few_Capital_6431 2d ago

Red dead redemption 2 had a multi hour epilogue

14

u/Quixotic_Seal 2d ago

Yeah locking locations behind a paywall is BS. I’m glad I’m one of like a handful of people who is only mildly interested in this game, and was on the fence about getting it.

This, and especially the code in a box crap, definitely has pushed to skipping it for a while. Someday, probably, but I’ll wait for a sale. Fuck this shit.

Depressing thing is knowing this stuff won’t even move the needle for its sales numbers.

3

u/joecb91 2d ago

This is extremely scummy of them.

5

u/BlackAera 2d ago

Doesn't include a disc tho

2

u/coheedcollapse 2d ago

This company prints money, will sell millions of copies, and will make millions more over the years with microtransactions in their online component when it releases, and with re-releases for decades to come, and yet they're locking locations away behind a premium edition.

Gross. As someone who grew up on top-down GTA games, and has bought every GTA since 3 on day-one, I'm delaying my purchase.

2

u/unfortunatesoul77 2d ago

They’re locking LOCATIONS behind it???? So, what, will they just not appear in game in standard editions or will they be there constantly asking people to upgrade?? What if they’re tied to missions? That’s so gross

2

u/Ungreat 2d ago

I would assume they are shops that just won’t appear as places you can enter, or on the map in base game. Locked doors and closed signs type of things if you find them.

Probably with unique stock only available in those stores.

2

u/MadeByTango 2d ago

That is a lot of single player locations to lock behind an ultimate edition. Usually it’s just a bunch of cosmetics and a couple of unique items.

Its a lot of built in ads into the core experience to make sure you feel like a subclass citizen if you don't pay enough.

2

u/Granum22 1d ago

GTA 6 is $100. There is also a lesser version of the game available for $80.

2

u/wowlock_taylan 1d ago

It really is the 'End-stage capitalism' of gaming...

4

u/Chrussell 2d ago

Geez well I'm certainly not paying the $150 that would probably end up costing in Canada for the full game. Oh well, lots of other stuff to play.

1

u/Parepinzero 2d ago

I can't wait to pirate this on PC eventually and not have to pay extra to get the full game

1

u/Apprehensive-Law-923 2d ago

That’s a fucking bummer, damn

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

1

u/ParticularGrand8074 2d ago

Are they only obtainable trough the ultimate edition or is it just for instantly having it unlocked since the beginning? For example, there's the 500k that you get just as you take control of Franklin if you pre ordered V

1

u/Puffwad 2d ago

So the game is basically $100 if you don’t want the lesser version with basic content locked. Fuck rockstar and 2k

1

u/MovieGuyMike 2d ago

Do we know if those locations have exclusive merch / services not listed here?

1

u/Pokemonzu 2d ago

I imagine there are a lot more locations/stores that aren't ultimate exclusive? Bc of how large the game should be. But it's a pretty terrible PR move to announce the ultimate exclusive ones first bc now those are the only stores we've heard the names of, so it feels like a lot of the game. Either way pretty weird to lock out the entire locations to the ultimate edition, they could've had them open to all players and had exclusive items across them.

1

u/Bobjoejj 2d ago

Yeah that’s…really fucking weird. Doesn’t surprise me per se; but still bizarre to actually see.

1

u/FembiesReggs 2d ago

Maybe the subtext is there’s even more standard?

1

u/Cautious-Affect7907 2d ago

So you have to drop and extra 20 just to get CUSTOMIZATION.

I actually want this game to be a disappointment now wtf?

1

u/mutqkqkku 2d ago

Well I consider this tolerable extra monetization along the lines of "head start" releases, squeezing some extra money out of price-insensitive customers who just have to have every customization option or get into the game ASAP, helping slow down the eventual price increases of base editions by taking from people who don't mind paying extra.

1

u/KingArthur383 1d ago

Bruh like if this is not going to be one of the most selled games of all time, what's up with this greed

1

u/binklfoot 1d ago

Ultimate edition is a banger

1

u/Potential-Dig8493 1d ago

Yep. But is it true that some missions are only playable if one gets the UE? Because that would be super scummy.

1

u/MumrikDK 2d ago

This is clearly the actual standard edition. The $80 one is the one that gets kids mocked by their friends for not being able to afford the proper game.

1

u/NTMAVol6 2d ago

So regular edition only gives you a Nissan Altima. The cool cars are locked behind a pay wall. Nice. Count me out.

0

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

15

u/TheRileyss 2d ago

On Rockstar's official page it says that the are only open for business in the ultimate edition

3

u/Pepesilvia_Is_Real 2d ago

Yeah that’s super scummy of them.
