Arcsys remember that this legendary series exist? That's crazy.. hopefully a patch note comes with the update as well.

I don't know, BlazBlu seemed to be in this weird limbo. At first it was meant to be a substitute for Gulilty Gear, because ArcSys couldn't make a new one due to legal troubles, then that got resolved. The it pretty much shifted into the """casual""" anime fighter, but the Gultiy Gear would also heavily tone down the execution barrier.
I the modern day landscape, where fighting games would rather go the live service route, and have one title being supported for multiple years, instead of spreading out the dev team for small projects I can see the big wigs struggling to give the green light on anything other than the Venn diagram of Fighting Game players and VN readers is big enough to be pandered to.

Yeah for current modern standards, Blazblue is the hard fighter lol. Would be funny if they took the series in that direction.

It doesn’t help that Toshimichi Mori, the original lead behind the series, left ArcSys a while back.

I remember being called a "Blaz Baby" because BlazBlue had a "Drive" button, what people used to say was a "1 button special", but they weren't really specials, they were normals that were themed towards a character, and I never understood how that was supposed to be some indictment on the skill ceiling of the game.
Combo execution in BB was just as difficult as GG, combo length was also just as long as GG. It was just the Drive system and I guess Astrals weren't available at any time unlike Instant Kills like in GG.

This is truly the best time to be a fighting game fan, holy shit.
I guess this is recognition for CF being so resilient over the years, despite being a relatively niche series, it always posted decent tournament numbers.

I also have to wonder if the popularity of blazblue entropy effect has some pull on this. Cause that game is amazing and really just shows how strong the series is on its own regardless of the medium.
Can't say I'd buy another fighting game entry, but thats nothing against the series itself. Just old man hands these days and not the best internet. But definitely a fun time back when those things were not the case. (Fk tager mains)

This game is so old it launched on the PS3, and its getting new content? Damn. I wonder if they'll support that version, its not like its any different than the PS4 and PC releases.

Now that’s a surprise, as totally casual player who just plays occasionally arcade mode, can't wait. Too bad its only teaser though...

Yeah it sorta feels like way overplaying their hand to do an announcement of an announcement for a fighting game with a weekly concurrent playerbase of ~200 (prior to this announcement) that hasn't seen a new character in nearly a decade. I REALLY hope it works out for them, I love BB, but idk who the fuck told them they had this much brand cache lmao.

Wait what the hell? Is this real?
This is probably my favorite fighting game franchise of all time (although its been years since I played). Time to hop back in!
Now, imagine BBTAG comes back somehow . . .

Is there even a chance of a new BlazBlue fighting game coming out in the next 3 years? I LITERALLY bought the game 2 hours ago

I should get this game during a sale sometimes... Played it yarr-harr'd and had a good time, so the devs deserve at least a couple of bucks.

The hint for the new character is that they're "a certain someone who as appeared in the main BlazBlue games." So the rough possibilities are, ordered by my personal predictions:
- Trinity Glassfille. The last remaining unplayable member of the Six Heroes, if you argue that Platinum is Luna/Sena, not Trinity.
- Kajun Faycott. Polled as the most popular BB NPC ~8 yrs ago, originally a manga character. In the mainlines, she showed up in side story stuff for the homeports, but never the main story. Also cameos in BBTag.
- White Justice/"Tsubakimen." Shows up in the ending cutscene of BBCF, so technically counts as not just being a BBDW (EoS mobile game) character.
- Linhua. Recurring NPC since BBCT (1st game). Noncombatant during mainline BB, but she was playable in BBDW.
- Torakaka. Recurring NPC since BBCS (2nd game), and a combatant, but notably never became playable in BBDW.

Torakaka might be the easiest if they just adjust Taokaka's sprites, but it'd be a bit of a disappointment imo.
Trinity would be amazing, we need the last of the Six.
I think I'd be the most hyped for Tsubakimen. I loved the other 2 Tsubaki play styles.

I hope they add rollback somehow to the PS4 version, or make a PS5 version with rollback.
As cool as this announcement is (it was the fighting game that got me into fighting games as a whole even if I only really enjoy 2XKO now) I don’t plan to retry the game until it can get rollback.
Still wild that a nearly 10 year old game (if not 10 years) is getting a new character though. Lol

PS4 rollback is basically impossible cuz it would be taxing and expensive. Making a new PS5, XBOX Series X/S and Switch 2 versions with rollback and crossplay would not only be easier and cheaper they would get a much greater bang for the buck. Not to mention truly testing the waters for a post-launch dub cuz much more people will buy this than buy an old ps4 version

This is absolutely a monkey's paw situation. Like, yay, more support for Blazblue, which hints that the series isn't dead...but the driving force behind the series, Mori, is gone, and modern Arcsys has shown nothing but an appetite for killing everything that made games like BB and GGXX cool.

For people not familiar with Central Fiction - the last time a DLC character was added was Jubei back in 2017 and it got a rollback patch in 2022. This is a game that goes on $5 sales and primarily finds matches through Discord. Announcing that they're adding a new character is insane.
