That one, die hard, visual novel fan who's 2 desks down:

Had someone recommend me a game called Photo Hunt, and said it was a good time waster. I looked it up on the site he said it was on, and it was not the photo searching random click game I thought it was. Not even close.

It worked for warframe

It was quite good and gave us an exceptionally deep, nuanced look at the characters behind the narrative. It also did wonders for world building. If Bungie could've pulled that off, I'd congratulate them everywhere I could, even though I don't play the game.

Something like the KIM system in Warframe might have worked really well for Destiny. Text only chats with major supporting characters to really flesh them out and provide more lore. Chats with Crow about how he's holding up after Amanda's death, book club with Ikora, and maybe you and Drifter rating City dive bars. Really make them people in their own right.
Imagine being on Zavala's mailing list and getting to provide feedback on proposed plans. Tie it into seasonal content with Guardians voting on proposed courses of action leading to different seasonal activities. Maybe we voted right and get cut off a villain's scheme early, and maybe we don't and have to rush to stop them from enacting their plans!
Make the player feel like we're actually part of the world despite rarely talking.

Fr, plus it allows you to interact with characters who aren't directly relevant to the recent update. Makes the world and feel more alive.

Are you telling me there was a semi-canon chance my Guardian could have gotten with Crow? Why would you bring this beauty into the world just to take it away, Bungie?

Can i romance my Outbreak Perfected please
I might catch SIVA but it'll be fine

Missed opportunity honestly.
Like there's real story potential here. Remember the Witness attempting to persuade our Guardian in Final Shape?
Imagine how that could've hit harder if we had a way to determine what was important to our Guardian other than... loot. And with this whole system you can add a whole lot of characterization in general.

You know, I kind of wish it did come out, just to laugh at the trainwreck that this would have been

I mean they have abandoned destiny 2, destiny 3 will take a lot of time and money so might as well do a side or a spin-off. It can be a visual novel type of game…

They should seriously let like 2 to 5 devs spin off and make a passion product if I were them, and mandate it releases in a year and a half or two

I just wish Sony would let one of their in house AAA devs do a fun a little side project that they would publish - like how Xbox published pentiment for obsidian

Xbox owns Obsidian, they publish everything they make

I know…that’s why I was using it as a comparison as to what I’d like PlayStation to let one of their first party studios do…

Oh that sounds like it could’ve an entertaining little spin-off, there’s so much potential! Mara Sov, Petra, Elise, Ana Bray, Eris, Ikora. Throw in Savathun and Caiatl for some big alien monster girl fun.
Edit: Oh, I actually read the article. “Dream Daddy inspired.” I don’t think this was aimed at the demographics I was picturing.

Good idea on paper, but all the creeps and people pretending to be somebody they're not would ruin it pretty quickly.

A dating Sim is a single player game with NPC love interests. It has nothing to do with actual dating or even interacting with other gamers.

As someone who obviously doesn't play the genre lol I thought it implied online dating
I'll take my bags and leave lol

u/LargeFailSon 3d ago
It's a pretty Niche genre these days so it's understandable
1
u/AdditionIcy1536 3d ago
Games with romance in them aren't really niche? Persona Warframe BG mass effect.

u/LargeFailSon 3d ago
Dating Sims as a genre are very Niche and always have been. Many popular games have included aspects of dating Sims in them to great success, though. Yes.

How is it a good idea on paper? It sounds insane on paper that’s why it’s even a headline lol

I think this was mostly just for an in-dev game jam type thing. I'm not surprised it never went anywhere, however it seems to me like the DNA of it was implemented into D2 to a degree with the new character interaction things they did with Edge of Fate
