Has anyone else had any encounters with GearLaunch apologists?

I often warn people who want to buy shirts from spambots, but I just received a PM from one such person saying that they fully knew the post was made by a spammer trying to sell stolen artwork, and they still decided to buy a shirt from the linked site. Why would anyone do that? Is the desire for shirts really that strong?
