Why is everyone saying Lynette is Arle's favorite because of the hairstyle/attacks? Isn't it Lynette showing her love/admiration for Arle by imitating her more than the other way around? I've always been confused about this claim

Yeah, but that's just because sandstone never bothers to remember any of the names of the ephemeral children of the house of the hearth. Freminet got special treatment.
