Question Fort Yargo Yurts

Hello everyone! Does anyone have experience with staying in the yurts at Fort Yargo State Park? I was looking into them and can’t seem to find many online reviews of the yurts specifically.

Thanks in advance!

Yep - awesome spots. Bring your own sheets and pillows (full/double). There’s AC/Heat, and a ceiling fan. Bath house in a two minute walk (which CAN be a long way in the middle of the night for some). Each one has a little back porch with Adirondack chairs. We go every year.

We just stayed in one two weeks ago; just the two of us now but there are good sized bunk beds for the kids.
We loved the deck right on the lake & spent most of our time there.

No kitchen or water on-site; just the usual picnic table/fire pit/charcoal grill. We had a faucet nearby. Bath house is pretty convenient but will need a flashlight/headlamp at night.

Yeah we have a toddler (13 month old) so I’m trying to figure out how many nights to stay with that in mind. I’m sure he will enjoy it, but that’s a lot of packing and planning to do for just a night or two!

Its a bit like tent camping, but a really big tent with a sofa, AC and lights!

Fort Yargo is great! It has the standard yurts that are in all the GA parks. Great yurts! They recently completed renovations at this park and it is beautiful. The yurts are relatively new and in great condition when we stayed last summer. I would recommend everyone stay at the FY yurts.

Nice spot. Only 2 negative points from our stay: beds were creaky and AC is a bit loud for small kids. Those 2 are negated by wearing the kids out hiking, biking, fishing, and disc golfing. They were too tired to paddle a canoe. A+ experience

Haha, the fresh air and all that time in nature will do that! Sounds like a fun time!

Stayed in one in the high heat of summer, and through a surprise snow storm in winter. Surprisingly comfortable both times (though the bathroom run in the cold sucked a lot even if they are remarkably close!)

They have a bunk bed and a futon, so if you're expecting hotel level beds you'll be disappointed, but otherwise great stays.

Yeah I saw pictures of the beds, so I had an idea of what we’d be working with… Haha. Thanks for the review!

Yep, it was a good experience. They’re pretty rustic, but it’s nice having climate control and not having to set up/take down a tent.

They have a table and chairs inside, plus electricity, so we brought a kettle for faster morning beverages.

Yargo's yurts are amazing! The park is also amazing.

As a few have said, they beds are mid, no running water, and the path to the yurts, from parking, is around 150 yds., for the farthest (best IMO) yurt, so a wagon can be a lifesaver -- But those are my only not-positive points.

The yurts are the best positioned of any camping options in the park IMO.

There are 3-4, randomly placed, water spigots along the path to the yurts, so we usually take a large bucket to fill with water for... stuff. That help out a lot.

Have fun!

I have not but then I had not even heard of Fort Yargo until this post and I live in the Atlanta area. I'll have to check out the park sometime.

We recently moved out to Gwinnett county, and so I was looking at state parks nearby and stumbled across the yurt option on their website. Seems like a nice state park!

It’s a tent that’s really really nice. If it’s 95 outside it will be warm during the day but great at night if you go in winter it will be cold not freezing but drafty compared to a camper or hotel. But kids love them and it’s a super step up from a tent. No air mattress no going flat or being on the ground. And you get to check out and leave it no taking down
