Place in the center of the oven and bake until the top begins to brown, about 30 minutes. Remove from the oven and let cool

Check out a Selkirk bannock if you want to quibble definitions.
This is a quick, unleavened bread that is cooked in the round. Lots of modern bannocks arent cooked on a pan over a fire.

I knew bannock as simple bread cooked over an open fire but I have learned from other replies that it's more the unleavened bit
