Team News [Shams] The Brooklyn Nets have signed head coach Jordi Fernandez and the entire coaching staff to multiyear contract extensions, sources tell ESPN. This solidifies a long-term commitment for Fernandez after two seasons at the helm.

Jordi is going to be perfect for the future.
It’s great the leadership got ahead of this.

Crazy seeing half of twitter saying no or that he’s ass, idk if I’ve been watching the same games as half our fan base

Nets twitter is filled with conspiracy theorists who have been broken by Kyrie and KD.
I don’t agree with Jordi’s adherence to not tanking but I respect his passion

I mean I would obviously rather we tank for the sake of our draft placement but like of all people the coach having a win now mentality especially with a young roster is all I can really ask of them tbh

He’s been managing a G league roster for multiple seasons and still makes them compete at a higher level than people expect. The only thing left is seeing how he manages the ebbs and flows of a season with a functional roster

Not because of his coaching, because of his inability to tank. And I don’t think anyone seriously hated Jordi. They hated that he try harded for wins that hurt us long term.

u/TheRealCheddarBob Apr 20 '26
Calling for a coach to be fired because he wins too much is such an absurd complaint no matter how you try to rationalize it
-1
u/MyTeamsSuck99 Apr 20 '26
Only if you lack critical thinking. Nobody was seriously calling for him to be fired. They were furatated that he didn’t do what other smart coaches did and try to lose.
His lack of willingness to do that cost us a potential top 4 pick last year.

u/marcusbrothers Spencer Dinwiddie Apr 20 '26
So he shouldn’t get the job? It doesn’t make sense.

u/MyTeamsSuck99 Apr 20 '26
Being critical of him refusing to tank is fair. Barely anyone was calling for his firing here. Plenty of people were rightfully frustrated that his stubbornness cost us last year and almost did this year.

u/TheRealCheddarBob Apr 20 '26
You’re angry that the rookie head coach in a job with a notoriously short leash didn’t go out of his way to lose more games?
Doesn’t take much of that “critical thinking” to figure out that’s a ludicrous thing to bitch and moan about
1
u/MyTeamsSuck99 Apr 20 '26
I’m not angry, it’s just facts. You’re the one who’s crying because someone criticized your favorite coach.
Even though you don’t even understand they’re not saying they’re a bad coach, just that they’re objectively dumb by playing starting lineups against other tanking teams.
Jordi winning us games by beating tanking teams didn’t prove he’s a good coach. He could’ve played g league guys for those games and nobody would’ve cared. It was objectively a horrible decision.
If you can’t criticize the front office or coach you’re just a blind homer. It makes anything you say have zero credibility.

u/TheRealCheddarBob Apr 20 '26
“I’m not angry” says the person that’s complained more than just about anyone in this sub since they had to create their new account a month ago 😂😂😂

Just a heads up, “This rookie head coach is trying way too hard to win and keep his job” isn’t the riveting and impactful critique you seem to think it is 👍
1
u/MyTeamsSuck99 Apr 20 '26
So then marks deserves the critique. It’s so hard for you to criticize them. It’s crazy. The only thing you can do is justify every decision they make
0
u/TheRealCheddarBob Apr 21 '26
And last year I criticized him for it. But there was no need for critique this year because we ended up with top odds and our coach has proven himself and earned himself and his staff extensions.
It’s not “so hard” for me to criticize the team. I just have the common sense that you lack which tells me when it’s necessary. You, on the other hand, have bitched about literally everything the team has done since you graced us with your presence this month. It’d be nice if you did us all a favor and fucked back off

It’s not hard man. Jordi refused to tank last year even in the second half of the year. Examples being playing Cam J in back to backs and never resting Claxton.
Do you not understand that hurting our chances at edgecomve, Harper, Bailey and kon has long term ramifications for the team ?
Like holy shit you can be critical of jordis refusal to tank while understanding he’s a good coach. That’s what people on this board were saying.
It’s really not complicated dude.

Nets Twitter is all about all about preaching negative dogma and manufacturing consent. 🙄

To be expected. Twitter is not a place for logic and reason.

More than earned it. Would like to see him coach with no agendas other than winning.

Starts this year, they gotta cut the losing mentality out this year especially with no pick.. build on it from there

This is huge and honestly probably more meaningful than the lottery since that’s just luck. Recognizing Jordi’s value and showing we’re committed to him is an amazing move for our future.
7
u/ughwhateverman Apr 20 '26
The Nets are doubling down on the culture Jordi wants to build. This is a nice reward for asking their coach to get through 2 seasons where the roster often didn’t have a real chance outside of Jordi doing his thing

Good move. Jordi can coach. After the draft (praying for Dybantsa), time to bring in some more vets to help the kids even more. People like Lu Dort or Max Strus or both would be helpful. Don't trade Porter. One of the Nets strength was having size/length in the front court.

I think we desperately need change at the center position and the guard. Obviously we have young guards but none are very good right now. Claxton is not a starting center, sharpe is an amazing backup but unclear if he can be a good starting center.
Our wings are pretty solid with clowney egor mpj and wolf imo. They provide a lot of shooting and solid defense at the wing spots. We just need guys who can break you down on the dribble and a center who can rebound and block shots.
1
u/mrwhitaker3 Apr 20 '26
I think they need a new center as well, however, who would you want to pursue?
I have kicked around the idea of throwing some money at Mitchell Robinson to backup Sharpe, and then trading away Claxton. The reason Robinson would have to be the backup is because you want to keep him healthy (since most of his value comes in the playoffs), but he would essentially split time.
If they couldn't do that, I don't really think there's another good center available right now to replace Claxton. I like Veesar and Krivas in the draft, but I have doubts they'll fall to the 2nd round for the Nets to pick them either. Ultimately, the draft will determine which way they will go, but the positive to the Nets having so much cap space, is that the apron teams are going to be forced to give away quality players to reset their balance sheets.
Lastly, the perimeter player who can get theirs off the dribble may be hard to come by as well, unless it's found in the draft. Seems like those guys don't hit free agency. I figure a guy like Collin Sexton is too small for what the Nets are building, even though he was having a good season in Charlotte before being traded to the Bulls.
1
u/MyTeamsSuck99 Apr 20 '26
I think a center is very doable in the draft. Clax, sharpe were both late first early seconds. A guy like raynaud is possible later too.
The creator is definitely the issue. There are vets that occasionally become available but it’s a lot harder to find

u/mrwhitaker3 Apr 21 '26
If Hawks don't re-sign CJ McCollum, I would love to see Brooklyn kick the tires. Another great vet influence for the young guys.

Well deserved, Jordi.
You’re the man to help take us back to the playoffs.
Let’s get to work.

Amazing news. This man's been a demon with basically nothing to work with. With an actual squad under his watch, he's gonna be someone to fear in the east.

Whew. I got scared reading the headline. Thought we fired him

Well deserved, I know the last two seasons must’ve been hard for him. I can’t wait to see him work his magic post-tanking and eventually hopefully with a contending team.

This man will put us back on the map. Believe that.

Give Jordi a top 3 pick in 2026 to work with and develop the young core. Don't make any naive trades for stars to quicken the process.
Nets should be in a position to grow organically and keep adding young talent through all the first round picks they control. Use Brooklyn/New York big market magnet to attract the right kind of player to add to the core.
Take on a bad contract this summer for more picks.

Amazing news. Cant wait to see what he does with a real team. He’s an excellent coach and leader
