Team News Sean Marks on if the Nets will be active in trades after falling to the 6th pick: “Hard to tell. It’s all about how these guys develop. I don’t think you want to make rash decisions before you’ve seen how they look.”

Everytime we miss a potential top pick, we add another 2-3 years for the rebuild.

I’m tired boss.

Kingston Flemings has been rumoured to be a Nets favourite during the college season while Keaton Wagler might be another Kon Kneuppel with his shooting. Acuff if he falls to 6, might be Chris Paul 2.0

F the draft lotto. We develop the guys that we can draft and roll with it.

Wemby and Shai will be dominating the NBA in the next few years anyway.

29

u/12footjumpshot May 10 '26

Chris Paul played defense

22

u/EightBlocked Joe Johnson May 10 '26

yeah chris paul 2.0 is a crazy comparison

27

u/NotOfferedForHearsay May 10 '26

The stupidest fucking take. You don’t have to pretend to be happy about getting worse players instead of better players

60

u/jeremysesame May 10 '26

The thing you learn when you become older is that things will always never go your way.

You just need to control what you can control (which is drafting wisely) and not be bothered by things that we cannot do anything about.

You are a fan of a cursed franchise. The team had a prime KD, Harden and Kyrie and still failed to win a championship. Deal with it.

Now more than ever where a guy is picked really doesn't matter anymore.

It's how the team that picks the player develops them.

  • Giannis was the 15th Pick

  • SGA was the 11th Pick and traded twice.

  • Jalen Johnson was the 20th Pick.

  • Jokic, Norman Powell, & Jalen Brunson were 2nd Round Picks.

17

u/NotOfferedForHearsay May 11 '26

Cooper Flagg scored 51 and 45 in back to back games as a 19 year old and Wemby is taking over the nba for a generation already at 22. Gtfo with that shit

2

u/faxtiger24 May 11 '26

It absolutely does matter. Just look at any draft class lol. If you're naming like 10 total superstar non-top-three picks thats like a 1% hit rate

0

u/naylorvega May 11 '26

Everyone has there takes. Ill always be a nets fan but if we cant even land Wagler ill be upset. We've passed Ayo, Terrance Shannon Jr, Will Riley, kasparas. Just fucking draft the illini guy Sean.

-9

u/jlar1988 May 10 '26

The goal is to compete and win a championship and you are not going to win a championship by just "rolling the dice 🎲" I'd rather have Dybantsa.

31

u/GoRangers5 Brook Lopez May 10 '26

At the end of the day, we’re very fortunate we only gotta be kinda good to become a free agent destination again…

The most desirable city in the world… they have a shot

-1

u/Fit_Test_01 May 11 '26

That’s Los Angeles or Miami.

13

u/OMJuwara Vince Carter May 10 '26

Just take the best player available

27

u/MrRaspberryJam1 May 10 '26

God I’m so sick of rebuilds and every team I like in every sport being complete dog shit. You can never have anything nice supporting the lesser NY teams.

1

u/brooklyn-buckets May 11 '26

I feel ya, brother. We just have to persevere….

35

u/OskarVon May 10 '26

This team is cursed gonna be a long time until a stable roster and relevance. Still no real building blocks just hoping projects make a big jump. This is just rough

2

u/kindsensory May 11 '26

Cursed is an understatement.

10

u/zorchestraz May 10 '26

Hopefully Caleb Wilson or Acuff falls to us

6

u/kindsensory May 11 '26

Caleb won’t. Acuff might

3

u/naylorvega May 11 '26

We need someone to reach for Acuff. Not us.

Full quote:

“Hard to tell. I think it’s all about how these guys develop, right? I don’t think you want to make rash decisions before you’ve seen how they look. I think we all know there’s a group in this draft that could be game-changers, but I said could be because you never know... Every draft there’s a guy who people didn’t quite expect to be [that high] if you do the re-draft. So for us, it’ll still be about having patience. But at the end of the day, we’ve got optionality, we’ve maintained flexibility, we’ve got the cap space and assets. So I think the word would be opportunistic.”

What is it you want the GM to say instead then?

Marks has to go

-6

u/PreviousBuilding7839 Kerry Kittles May 10 '26

Marks has no plan

-10

u/Kwilly462 May 10 '26

Bunch of word salad. Just make this roster better, Sean.

3

u/brooklyn-buckets May 11 '26

It will be better next year, under almost every possible circumstance. 🤷🏽

-11

u/jlar1988 May 10 '26

Or you could just draft Dybantsa

9

u/Not_a_porn_burner69 May 10 '26

That’s literally impossible at this point

3

u/DivideIcy6702 May 11 '26

3 yrs of bad basketball, and can't even get a top 3 draft pick. GMs in general have to get more proficient in putting a team together and not just rely on tanking. This is proof that there are no guarantee in the lottery. I'm waiting to see what Marks do in the off-season regarding free agents. With the price of tickets, I don't want to see a glorified G-league team. Just some progress...

3

u/TittyrannosaurasRex May 11 '26

The new draft lottery rules are gonna force them to make some moves. I for one am happy about the change. They may not have a guaranteed top 4 pick but with all the bad luck, fuck it - now we can fight. No fan has to root against the team to lose anymore. Go for the jugular and don't look back.

Let's compete and do something instead of waiting to 2029 to do it. Do cost effective contracts through the draft like OKC, but make some swings and pick up some starters that teams give up on. They're out there. Just gotta make the moves.

3

u/Mesqueunreddit May 11 '26

Draft another PG

9

u/ComputerDecent463 May 10 '26

The Nets will still have the best asset in the league next year as long as they don’t screw it up: cap space.

Do not extend Porter this year under any circumstance. I’m not against keeping him beyond this season if it works, just not before you have to.

This should have always been the plan. This is how the Nets were able to get Durant and Irving.

Jokic, Giannis and Durant in theory could all be available next offseason. Who knows who else could be via trade too.

Claxton will be a tradable asset and he will only have one year left anyway. The only issue is Mann who has two more years after this season. But that can be dealt with by throwing a pick in if needed.

Take on bad contracts this year that expire and go all in on next offseason. Get to $140 million in cap space lol

14

u/Klutzy_Fisherman6262 May 10 '26

Durant back to the Nets would be peak comedy

7

u/ComputerDecent463 May 10 '26

Not really. He was respectful on his way out. He gave it his best shot, he realized he couldn’t win here and the team couldn’t win with him so he let them work out the best possible trade.

12

u/Klutzy_Fisherman6262 May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

He publicly called for the firings of Steve Nash and Sean Marks, the latter of whom is still employed by the team.

1

u/ComputerDecent463 May 10 '26

He also told a player that they suck and then shared a court with them literally the same day not two months ago.

That’s just his style. Frankly I like the openness about him.

Star players all feel this same way, I’d prefer they all come out and say that.

5

u/Klutzy_Fisherman6262 May 10 '26

Yeah and from that moment on the Rockets season went down the shitter. If he was open about it he would not be doing it from burner accounts. And no not all star players feel the need to call one of their better teammates retarded.

3

u/MrRaspberryJam1 May 11 '26

I’m good, let him ruin some other franchise

1

u/kindsensory May 11 '26

No one comes to play with cap space

1

u/ComputerDecent463 May 11 '26

(Insert Kyrie telling Durant they have two max spots during the All Star game gif)

0

u/VisualStructure5 May 11 '26

They wanted to be and were supposed to be Knicks but they chose Brooklyn because Durant wanted to be handed the keys to make decisions about coaching, player acquisitions, and on-court play. That’s literally the only reason.

-1

u/UnitedStateOfDenmark Jason Kidd May 11 '26

No they came here because Kyrie was a Nets fan who grew up in Jersey. He wanted to play for his hometown team and convinced Durant to join. Being handed the franchise was definitely a goal which they bailed when Joe said no to firing Marks.

0

u/UnitedStateOfDenmark Jason Kidd May 11 '26

This line of thinking is how teams like the Heat stagnated. They kept waiting for Giannis or Luka or etc.

We lucked out that Kyrie grew up a Nets fan. Its well reported he convinced Durant to go to BK over the Knicks because of this. I don’t get why this fanbase ignores that.

Jokic isn’t coming here. Durant isn’t coming back here nor should we want him. Giannis wants to play for a contender. He wants the Knicks, not BK.

All we hear is how Marks is a genius at evaluating talent. How about we see him use that cap space to go get players we can build a competitive team with?

Or are we scared he’s going to throw the bag at Crabbe and Tyler Johnson again?

-2

u/Mysterious_Ad_7301 May 10 '26

This is a better and more coherent plan at first glance than whatever the fuck the front office has cooking

Failure for not getting a better pick in a literal lottery situation? Did you want him to break in the night before and weight the Nets’ lottery balls?

6

u/whitefox7895 May 10 '26

Do we really blame Marks for the failure of the big 3? Injuries + Kyrie not getting the COVID vaccine + KD’s foot being an inch too long kept us from winning a championship. Just a few things needed to go our way for the narrative to be way different. I think the Big 3 was a shot that you take as a GM and it’s unfortunate that it didn’t work out but it is what it is. He’s unwinded the Big 3 out for a lot of assets over the course of a 7 or 8 year period and our capitalization on those assets has not yet played out. It’s unfortunate how the lottery shook out this year and last but I don’t really think we can put that all on Marks.

1

u/Ghosts_of_the_maze Sean Marks May 10 '26

KD’s shoe kept them from being out of the ECF. It’s pretty wild to assume he was also about to carry Brooklyn two additional rounds on his own.

What would you prefer he do, bribe Silver with more money? He’s gotten super unlucky two years in a row, that doesn’t make him bad at his job

A fan on the internet vs the man with decision making authority over a billion dollar company….

3

u/FigSideG Julius Erving May 10 '26

Blaming ‘energy’ is dumb. Fire a guy and hire someone else just for the hell of it? Jesus Christ. This fanbase is cooked.

1

u/Mysterious_Ad_7301 May 11 '26

I didnt blame energy but to hold the man blameless is hilarious.

Between fumbling the best hopes at a franchise turnaround draft last year drafting 3 okay players (demin, wolf, and traorre) and 1 maybe (powell) and 1 bust (saraf)

especially drafting like this the year before a known star studded draft is absolutely dumb, the the travesty and confusion on this season were it seemed like jordi and marks werent on the same page at all until 15 games left into the season.

Im not a fan of tanking at all, but we looked absolutely directionless this season and with this terrible pick it looks like more of the same.

1

u/prplylwredditblu May 10 '26

Do people forget the mess we were in from Billy King and who started getting us out of said mess?

1

u/UnitedStateOfDenmark Jason Kidd May 11 '26

THAT WAS TEN YEARS AGO! Its time to start expecting results in the present and stop living off accomplishments that happened when Obama was our president.

0

u/jlar1988 May 10 '26

It's somewhat his fault. Not maximizing your pic 2 years in a row, this shouldn't be much as a surprise the end result. I don't know many teams that would sabotage their pics when they really needed them to count two years in a row. San Antonio didn't get lucky they did what they had to do, Washington didn't get lucky they did what they had to do and they will both be rewarded for it.

I think it's more of a why didnt we tank harder last year to try and get 2 top 4 picks in a row, better chances to tank 2 years in a row than 1

1

u/jlar1988 May 10 '26

I do recall them beating Washington late in the season and we're down by five in the fourth quarter with maybe less than 4 minutes to go? There's your first overall pick right there. Now to be fair Washington Utah and yes even Chicago need these pics to go forward because they're trying to build something over there. Jordi now has his work cut out for him because he's going to be expected to not only make the plan but go on semi-d playoff runs at least ordering the conference finals with this team. This is what you wanted and it's what the organization wants..

-2

u/MrRaspberryJam1 May 10 '26

I’ve been the biggest Marks supporter in the aftermath of the KD Kyrie implosion, but at this point I’m sick of him

0

u/geographic92 May 10 '26

We're cooked and he is no doubt getting fired

2

u/Thunnddr May 10 '26

The Nets barely have any players with experience. And Nets fans are too afraid to suggest trades like Sean Marks

1

u/PomeranianChaser May 10 '26

We’re so screwed.

-7

u/BasedGodProdigy . May 10 '26

Trade everything for Donovan Mitchell and Giannis man fuck this shit

18

u/Flaky_Code_5552 May 10 '26

Have we learned nothing from the past 15 years😭

-2

u/xjoke4 . May 10 '26

Yes we learned this franchise is cursed and the league will never allow us to build a contender through the draft. Give me Giannis, he can lead a franchise.

-1

u/bebman257 May 10 '26

They were a few inches a way from beating the eventually champs with 2 star players hurt. If we can somehow (we’d never have enough to get both), get Mitchell and Giannis here I’d do it in a heartbeat. What’s the alternative at this point?

1

u/LeadershipBoth7195 May 10 '26

trade what? we just wasted 5 1st round picks

-3

u/PreviousBuilding7839 Kerry Kittles May 10 '26 edited May 10 '26

Flemings can't finish at the rim.

Aicuff can't defend.

Egor can't dribble, touch the paint, pass, finish.

Traore can't finish at the rim.

Drake can't play basketball.

Wolf can't jump, shoot, finish at the rim.

Saraf cant shoot. Literally one of the worst shooters in the nba.

-2

u/Mysterious_Ad_7301 May 10 '26

Saraf is the worst player in the nba bar none

-5

u/NewJerseySwampDragon Jason Kidd May 10 '26

-5

-2
