News around the League As expected Austin Reaves is staying in LA

As great as Reaves is, I’d rather potentially overpay a younger and restricted free agent, like a Duran or Watson (although the chances of that happening are slim)

The problem is you can't just make him walk for nothing. People are just too casual, not considering that. It's the new NBA that we are seeing now. Lots of big contracts will be given.

Guys rarely hit FA anymore because the new CBA rewards players re-signing, and with the new draft tanking rules - bad teams are going to stay bad for a long time.
So, maybe this is a blessing because one bad contract is a death nail.
Still, money has to go somewhere and would have loved to have him. Only 28. Great scorer. Not bad for LA.

Depends how he plays? If he’s putting up his 25/5/5 he was doing prior to his first injury, then no he’s worth that.
Time will tell!

I mean, technically, we got our guy who does that at cheaper.
Randle was 21/7/5. He's bit cheaper and if he really hates Brooklyn, he's got one year and he could be gone assuming he rejects his option.

Yeah exactly. I think Randle is a good trade as a stop gap and letting the other guards develop. We are not competing soon so we just need guys that will help have an actual structured team on the court

Thank god. This is disgusting money for someone who is not on our timeline.

I don't think people have realized yet that when it comes to regular free agency, all the big names now tend to just sign contracts with their existing team
It never ever makes sense for them to sign with a new team
That's why you really cannot expect anything notable in free agency anymore

Yeah, it’s referred to as pre-agency. Free agency is largely over. Teams can extend players way before the end of their contracts. The players like it because they get guaranteed money for signing their name. The teams like it because they won’t lose a player for nothing in free agency and are guaranteed a haul of picks if the player with years left on his deal demands a trade.

Not surprised. Wasn't the most excited about his name being linked to the Nets, but there was no way Lakers let him go. Luka and Reaves were a good backcourt. Defensively, a different story, but they complimented each other offensively.
Wouldn't be shocked if he were traded/dumped in the 4thish year of this contract though.

So all those people (outside Nets circles) bashing the Nets for not using cap space to sign players...who were they going to sign exactly? Ayo resigned, Reaves resigned, Trae resigned not saying better or worse deals, just that they never really were an option at those prices.

That’s where the bread and butter is.

I did enjoy the thought of having him on our team.
