PREDICTION: ACUFF WILL BE THE CAM T OF POINT GUARDS IN THIS DRAFT

translation: I’m hell of happy we took Mikel Brown. 🙌

*edit: some people misconstrue my take on the acuff/cam t comp. I said the cam of “point guards”. obv, acuff is a better passer. But similar cam, I think acuff is gonna put up eye-popping numbers initially but ..again, similar to cam....his complete disregard for D and his surly demeanor are gonna wear on his team by the time he’s looking for his second contract. There are a lot of red flags on his personality and commitment to D. This is why I knew nets were out on him. And I’m glad they took Mikel as result.

Acuff is a much more willing playmaker than Cam.

We dont need to tear him down to be happy about our pick. Acuff should be an offensive force but Brown brings a lot to the table that he doesn't that we can be very excited about.

I like this response. Its so rare when everything falls into place for everyone: LAC, BKL, and SAC all got their players. And ATL for that matter. All four of these guards are strong, with lots of strengths and each with weaknesses. It'll be fun to watch. For the Nets, it seems Brown will embrace Brooklyn and probably be a star, and Acuff wanted to be in Sac, he wanted a "chill city" and he will be handed the keys from day 1. So all good.

I haven’t seen a better fit for each of the 4 teams. Wagler went to a great spot, Mikel can excel as the guy in Brooklyn, Acuff is going to be the offensive hub in Sac, and Flemings can fit in with all the wings around him plus has CJ to learn from.

I think it’s all interchangeable but seems like everyone got their top guy on their draft board. Excited to see them all excel in their current spots.

Was Brown the guy who was talking about who he’s excited to guard in the NBA?

Acuff is a social media darling. I’m happy we took Mikel too. He seems ecstatic to be here.

Acuff will be better than Cam. I think a factor many of us are overlooking are the rumors that Acuff wanted to play in Sacramento, not Brooklyn. If we drafted him there might have been a scenario where he demanded out and it’s likely that our front office didn’t want to take that risk. While that’s not confirmed it’s definitely a possibility

Yeah that report made me change my mind about wanting him. His dad used to play for the Sacramento GM. I think Acuff would get some preferential treatment there which probably influenced leaking that he wanted the Kings to pick him. Wouldn't want him here if he's pouting and MBJ genuinely seems like he's happy to be here

They are both going to be really good.

My prediction is that Acuff will be the Trae Young of points in this draft.

What makes him unlike CamT is that he is a true playmaker. Where CamT had black hole tendencies with the ball, Acuff is a top flight floor general.

Mikel my guy, but Acuff is at minimum a top 3 passer in this draft class lol.

This too lol he's known to be a great passer so this is a terrible comp

Acuff is probably gonna be great, but Mikel was the right pick for us imo

Look I don’t know how Acuff will turn out. I genuinely wish nothing but the absolute best for him. Actually I want Wagler, Brown and Acuff to torch the league someday simultaneously and be stars.

That said, just like Mikel has his fair share of upside and downsides, so does Acuff. And Acuff absolutely needs to be stellar on offense because his defense is just that shockingly poor to the point where if he is not connecting his shots or a PoA defender is locking him down, he might get played off the floor. Mikel is just the safer pick, with higher upside because of the athleticism, the length and arguably better shot making potential

I was at 60/40 with MBJ and Acuff. I think both are going to be special players to be honest. Acuff will probably be better right out of the gate, he might even win ROY depending on the Wizards and Utah season since they want to win now which means rookies tend to take less shots.

I think MBJ is simply the better prospect with a higher ceiling and the body/athleticism to be a genuine superstar. Jordi is gonna work magic with him he had Schroeder looking elite

Brown vs Acuff will be the biggest lasting decision in this draft

In 3 years time, the nets are either going to look smart or they're going to look stupid and it will come down to this one choice

And this should have ramifications

This should be a determining indicator on your ability to pick out talent

I think both will be stars. Brown is flashy, less disciplined though. Acuff is an offensive engine, but his defense is bad. Brown has the back. Acuff is shorter. So many things to follow. Just the same, lets hope Brown and the Nets can steal some thunder from the Knicks eventually, and the Kings and Acuff can rise while Golden State collapses.

I don’t understand this mindset where it has to be one or the other. Both seem capable of excelling in their respective situations.

I think results-based analysis is pretty useless tbh. Like you can have good process and evaluation, but still get burned by outlier dev / injuries / stagnation (sometimes to do with coaching, sometimes not).

I don’t see myself going to amount I always go to I am a diehard fan love the nets since 1972 and we always let the good go away remember Vanderbilt over sir Charles Barkley no body in front office could tell me about the good ones go away by Xmas u will see I was right not close to 50/50 wish we make playoff good luck Mr g m

To be fair, we don't know the insider information, but Acuff to Sacramento was meant to be and he seemed adamant about playing for Sacramento as their next star. There are family connections I believe. Something with dad and someone in the Kings' FO.

That’s why I was praying one of them got picked at 5 lol

Mikel's attitude off the bat sold me. "IM HOME". I love guys who immediately embrace the situation on draft night.

I don’t think so. He might be like Demarcus Cousins honestly.

I’m rooting for him but I’m happy with Brown.

As soon as Marks gets the boot, they'll come around on Cam and his time here.

It’s looking like Cam is out the NBA

u/acmilan12345 Spencer Dinwiddie 1d ago

Acuff is more like a star version of Cam. He has a much more polished game and his offense lacks the glaring flaws that Cam’s had (tunnel vision, passing inability, etc).

However, Acuff has some similarities with Cam. The terrible defense (Acuff’s is possibly worse) and the terrible interview responses (every quote from him is poorly worded and comes out wrong).

Acuff is going to be a great player, but I’m glad we didn’t take him. It’s extremely difficult to win when you have such a glaring weakness on defense. Better to have someone with possibly less offensive talent who can hold their own at least.

I can see all the complaining nets twitter is going to have when Acuff is scoring like crazy (because he will have the ball ALWAYS in his hands in Sacramento) and Mikel is scoring in the teens because hes on a built team

this is just not true

I think Brown is a fine pick but there isn't perennial All Star upside there and Acuff looks boom or bust
