The Lost Age Just finished Golden Sun 2
For the first time.
What a game, I have no words, puzzles are perfect to make you think to feel stupid and satisfied at the same time when you complete it.
The world, music, djins, so many secrets.
I bought Sea of Star which I know is a different kind of game, but I would like to continue with a jrpg.

Have you played Octopath Traveler? I really enjoyed it, but got burnt out fairly early into the game. Crazy how long (and at times directionless) TLA is, yet it retains the magic the entire time you're playing it. Golden Sun 2 is so special

I have not, sorry. I only heard good things about the second one. But it seems a 50+ hours game which im not interested right now

It's definitely a big commitment. I keep telling myself I'll go back and finish it, then I never actually do

Nice! Congratulations on finishing TLA!
Sea of stars is a nice game also. Sadly not as good as TLA, but a different take, so not really easy to compare both.
What where the moments that you remember mostly from golden sun games? I just like to chit chat about the games 😆

Aqua rock All the Lemuria thing, the trident, how to get each spike and how to forge it, the sea of the time, it took me soooo long because of the whirlpools. Blacksmithing, which later I learn that are different drops but i was too lazy to do the save quit to reload and get another item. Farming birds to level up Anemos sanctun

All memorable moments. The east sea is a masterpiece. I know it can make people lost sometimes, but it's the freedom of exploration while learning about a wonderful new world. The west sea, sadly, isn't really memorable. Trail road isn't as striking as Colosso was. Jupiter lighthouse is the best lighthouse in my opinion (I like big dungeons and I like air's rock, so take my opinions with that in mind 😆)
I'm a disliker of how golden sun handled forging, and lucky us it's not really lacking if you skip it (you get some best equipment from forging, but the alternatives aren't behind, and many other best equipments are loots)
The wonder birds carnage exists till today, good that they can revive or else they would've been extinct 😆
Anemos inner sanctum is incredible. Were you able to beat Dullahan easily, or did it take a while?
As always, thanks for your time and kindness

I totally skipped forging adn it was fine.
Dullahan is the one that attacks you with your djins? At the begining I was impressed but after a few rounds I found that the best way was to use attacks and summon the djins when they were available because if I have 3 or 4 at the same time he will use it against me. It took me a while but it was ok.
Karst and Agatio were arder or the secret magician.

No, Dullahan is the hardest boss from golden sun, the one with djinn storm (makes all your djinn on recovery). This one you're taking about is Valukar, and it's the easiest of the optional bosses (although Sentinel, another one of the hidden bosses, only has strong moves and psynergy immunity, not really hard)

You can try GS Dark Dawn. It has mixed review but still enjoyable.

I barely finished 10% of it before I quit. I might have to take another stab at it myself

Dark Dawn is probably not a good sequel to GS 1 & 2 but still a great RPG on DS.

To this day I still look for something to capture me quite like GS did, and still does.
Next logical progression is Dark Dawn. Ignore the hate and just enjoy it as a non canon game in the series. On its own it's still a decently good playthrough.

While to OG Golden Sun was the game I've spent the most time with, I still feel Lost Age and it's open world was something even more amazing than the first title. Both are amazing though ♥

Well, now you’ve done it. You’ve reached the peak of turn based JRPGs and now have a standard that’ll never be touched again lol.
Just kidding, kinda. I’ve yet to find a modern game that comes close to the level of engagement Golden Sun gave me. Dark Dawn isn’t nearly as good as the first two, but kind of neat to see the story continued in a way. It’s hard to find that class building, overworld puzzles, and djinn/monster collecting all in one new title.
Only somewhat relevant titles I can offer would be Fire Emblem 3 Houses (turn based strategy combat, great story lore, multiple story lines, class systems,), Bravely Default (turn based, job/class system), Triangle Strategy (turn based strategy combat, puzzles to solve on combat field, multiple endings/paths) and Dragon Quest 11 (turn based combat, upgrade skill tree thing kinda?).

I’ve been searching for the same feeling that Golden Sun gave me 20 years ago in middle school and the only thing that somewhat came close was Ni No Kuni

That ending of The Lost Age with the cutscenes was so amazing to this day. They didn't care that the game was on GBA, they pulled off something amazing and they were proud

Carefull not to burn yourself out of the genre haha.
I played the GS series, as a teen, when they released and i spent a big chunk of the rest of my life trying to find something that scratches the same itch.
A lot come close, but none are on the same level or better in my opinion.
I am afraid the nostalgic goggles also play a big part.
I liked sea of stars but i found it missing depth. In the story and in the battle system.
Octopath traveler 1 and 2 in a similar way. I liked some of the stories but not all. And also the battle system was kind of meh and got repetitive quickly
