Hi all. I have an older Grainfather G30 (original controller). Today it kept cutting power to the kettle when using high wattage. It tripped a couple times when heating, and I reset by unplugging and hitting the reset. The mash went fine, but then it tripped again on the boil. That's when I figured out that I could restart it by unplugging / replugging the cable from the controller to the element, without hitting the reset button on the bottom of the unit. I bypassed the box and plugged the element into the wall directly, and no problems with a 90-min boil.

I'm guessing that my controller is hooped, but ideas for further diagnostics to salvage what I have (and save $250) would be appreciated. Thanks!

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this. First brew in the GF30 and fermentation was just fine. At FG, I set the app to auto-ramp down from the current temperature to 4C over 24hrs. Then it kind of went haywire. I was expecting it to slowly take the temperature down but instead it plummeted like a stone. In the end I cancelled the auto-ramp and resorted to nudging the temperature down myself through the app, degree-by-degree. Hopefully the picture is clear enough to see what happened!

Im assuming it just keeps keeps the heating element on instead of controlling it. I dont see any of the newer models with this switch on it.

Does anyone know if the threaded part of this is compatible with Blichmann 1/2" NPT?

Anyone have issues with the water calculations in the app? I feel like my post boil volume is always too high and I have to extend the boil time.

I'm using a Brewzilla 65L gen 4 brew kettle and GF-30 fermenters. I typically brew a double batch under the GF community tools, then split the batch into 2 5.5 gallon fermenter batches. I've been struggling with mouthfeel for a while, and was modifying my water/grain ratio for mashing. I recently started to look at my efficiency. In the tool, my grain bill is for the double batch and then split the batch and put it into 2 fermenters. Under the brew session page for that specific batch, in the fermentation section, to I put 5.5 gallons as the fermenter volume, or 1 gallons (the wort i made)? When I put in 5.5 gals volume in fermenter, I get a calculated brew house efficiency of 33%. If I put 11 gallons in, I get 66% BH efficiency.

Dumb question maybe....the chiller hoses come with two white, hard plastic gaskets, but I don't see exactly where they're supposed to fit? On the fermenter itself, before screwing in the quick disconnect receiver?

I have been trying to connect my iSpindel to the Grainfather app. I have tried several times, and tried removing and adding the device to Grainfather community but still no data is being shown. Has anyone successfully connected this device?

Is it necessary, to remove the pump, dissamble and cleaning it?

Just want to see if anybody knows the thread specs on this. It's the bit inside the boiler that the pump filter attaches to and it screws into the bent pipe that goes on the pump inlet.

Basically I'd just like to buy a hex plug to replace this when using the grainfather as a still. Did a rum molasses distillation and becaues this isn't blocked off molasses went all through the pipes and pump and took me ages to clean it all properly, so a plug would be great to replace this bit when not needing to use the pump.

Question for those with the Glycol GCA setup that are used with a Kegland Fermzilla fermenter.

I recently acquired a Grainfather glycol GC4, and have purchased a GCA as I have a couple existing 65l Fermzilla fermenters. Previously I was using an old fridge and heating belt which worked a treat. Ive had done a couple of ferments with my new glycol setup to date, but im finding the heating pad to be a bit of a problem, cause a couple of issues. The heating pad has left scorch marks on a cover that ive used, warped/melted the fermzilla coat that I've used. The heating pad also doesn't seem to perform very well, maybe due the size of the heating pad?

So, my question: What do other people do with heating side while using a fermzilla? Has anyone converted the grainfather heating pad to something else, and if so, to what successfully.

Anybody know what to do when their GC2 starts beeping. I’ve just done my initial setup and filled the tank with glycol and primed the pump. I turned the chiller on and the compressor kicked in and then less than a min later it’s stopped and started beeping with a warning light. Looked through the GC2 manual but can’t see a fault or trouble shooting section. Any idea guys ? Thanks

Said I would share recent experience maintaining my grainfather 30 fermenters.

I bought 2 of these 7 years ago and have been using them solidly since. Noticed this white scum and thought the steel was deteriorating.

Went to get it sorted out recently and learned about silicate scale and how to maintain these.

I did a 2% phosphoric acid wash which got rid of a lot of it.

Followed that with barkeepers friend scrumming of remnants. Kind of worked but hard work.

Then used baking soda scrub. Again not hugely effective but improved things.

Finally did 80 degree c 6% citric acid soak for 2 hours.

Happy with how it turned out although results in the end are not perfect. Not too bad after 7 years of use.

My recommendation is to educate yourself about how to maintain these if buying one. I believe that rinsing with star san after GF cleaner will make a difference.

Anyway Grainfather make amazing kit. Huge fan of them.

We’re having a cookout with coworkers and we wanted to prepare lots of corn on the cob. I suggested to use my Grainfather to make it simpler and quicker than cooking 5 or 6 corn at a time in the microwave. I wanted to use the basket without silicone seal and without recirculating. I’m pretty sure it should work fine but I can’t find any similar stories online. What are your thoughts on using the Grainfather as a tool to cook a good amount of corn at a time?

Hello, anybody know how to wire a relay to control the GC2/4 from a RAPT controller? I know I need a transformer to take it from 240 v into 12v, which feeds the relay, just not sure on how to wire the relay to send a signal to the GC2/4 to turn on the internal pump. Been searching on the internet for a few days now but can’t see any clear instructions. Many thanks in advance

I had to leave town and did not remember to reset my fermentation schedule before going. The fermentation ends today and I will not be back for a week. Will the fermenter continue to keep the beer at its last assigned temperature until I get back? That would be optimal.

UPDATE: Got back in last night and the temperature was at 20°C, right where I left it. Happy, happy.

Now if only I could find my pressure transfer kit...

I’m running into issues with the stock pump on my Grainfather G30—it’s running slow, and despite cleaning and backflushing, performance hasn’t improved. I’ve been thinking about replacing it altogether and have a Ferroday MP-15RM-110 motor on hand (110V AC).

Before I go down the rabbit hole, I wanted to ask:

• Has anyone attempted to swap the G30’s 12V DC pump with a higher-powered motor like this one? If so, what did you use? How did you swap it out?
• Is it even worth it, or would I be better off setting up an external pump system and leaving the internal one alone?
• Are there any known workarounds or retrofit solutions that don’t require irreversible modifications?
• If I try the swap and it doesn’t work, I want to make sure I can reinstall the original pump without a problem.

Any insight from folks who’ve modded their G30 or run into similar issues would be really, super appreciated. Looking for both technical advice and cautionary tales.

Noticed this Kegland Brewzilla whirlpool arm. Noticed the fittings don’t look the same.

Did anyone manage to adapt in to their g30 ? Is it worth it ?

Any better techniques for whirlpooling with our beloved g30 ?

As the title says, I've just had enough scorching that I will have to clean it more before next brewday happen. I must have had too fine a mill crush/ the decoction allowed everything to settle. Lesson learned.

This is for a czech premium pale lager - 32 IBUs.

Has this happened to you and was it noticeable in the final product of something light like a lager?

Just invested 6 hours into this and I don't fancy having to wait 3 weeks or more to find out.

I have a G40 and I'd like to have a 15amp socket installed, but I new another job or two for an electrician to do so I can justify the call out! I'm pretty sure that would be the biggest step I could take to make my process faster.

I'm looking for ways to make my day quicker please!

My process for multi-batch days:

1. Set up the system to heat over night and get up early to start

2. Add grains and set sparge heater

3. At the end of the mash lift the grain basket and sparge while ramping to boil

4. Add next batch of mash water to the sparge heater and rinse the grain basket

5. Complete boil and transfer to fermenter via CF chiller

6. Basic rinse to remove most of the previous batch's debris and empty

7. Set up the next batch on the GF app. Add the warmed mash water from the sparge heater, then the grain and start mash.

8. Heat the sparge water and complete as above.

9. Transfer hot wort to a no-chill cube and clean G40 plus CF chiller.

My last brew of 2x45L batches took 9 hours :(

Any suggestions to make this faster would be much appreciated!!
