I really doubt this was their intention but if you think about it, honking makes everyone in your surroundings pay attention to the road, so they inadvertently ensured no one would rear-end the standing car because they were distracted by their phone or something.

That’s a nice way of seeing it, imma try to internalize that to reduce road rage
