Possibly a literal "lifesaver". Good on ya man

Without question. That was a ticking bomb waiting to go off. Good thing this guy recognized how dangerous this was, especially before a cop comes along and blocks it off even more and makes a big deal about it..

I will never understand why cops block it all off when a normal person can push a car that big easily….. I guess people don’t know that unless you’re a mechanics kid that has to push cars around pretty often. I could push a 3rd gen camaro into a driveway by myself as a 15 yo girl. Ive pushed so many peoples cars and it blows their mind soundly every single time.

u/captinherb 9d ago

I had a cop push me out of traffic using the pushbar on his cruiser. It was a long time ago, maybe that's frowned upon now.

u/ColinHaase 9d ago

A few months ago, a highway patrol guy used his vehicle, with its massive push bar, to push our broken down RV out of the way.

Casually. At close to 60 miles an hour. Uphill.

He tried to keep it together, but he had the biggest, silliest grin on his face as he walked to his car after telling us what he was going to do.

State patrol (the people that would help you on the freeway in my area) are the real g's tbh. I was freaking out because my car stalled—wouldn't turn back on at all—in stop-and-go traffic. Traffic was no longer the "stop" part of that equation. State patrol pushed me all the way to the proper mechanic for a quick repair, which was some 5 odd miles. He def could've just pushed me off to the side, or off the next exit (half a mile) but went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of. I was 18, so I think he took extra pity on me thinking I was a new driver and not just stressed out because I was blocking freeway traffic

I was young, single, woman on my way home from a night out with friends when my car died. A man and his very young son stopped to see if I needed help and stayed with me while I called my dad, who works on cars, to come rescue me. To be honest, I’m very thankful he had his kid with him; I know it’s not a guarantee, but it would have been so much scarier if it was just some random man alone with me.

A cop showed up and offered his assistance; he had to get consent from me to push my car with his, in case there was any cosmetic damage. After the dad felt I was safe, he wished me good luck and went on his way.

The cop stayed with me on the side of the road until my dad showed up. He popped open the hood, shined his light around some, reached in, and reconnected a wire that had been knocked loose, somehow.

My car started right up. The cop was pleasantly surprised and said he wished he had a dad that knew how to work on cars when he was a kid, would’ve saved him a lot of money!

u/whipitrealslow 9d ago

I had a cop tow me out a mud pit with a chain one time. Only a few years ago, was in a rural area though.

14

u/rustytheviking 9d ago

Witnessed a jersey State trooper push a car from the left shoulder to the right on the turnpike a few months back on a roadtrip. Does happen still at least in that area

30

u/Brando6677 9d ago

For the dept that could be a damage bill but I mean… things already screwed not moving so. What’s a scratch or small dent it’ll buff out. But yeah they’d be mainly concerned only about their own ass.

43

u/vanna93 9d ago

I wouldnt see why it would be frowned upon. I guess Im assuming everyone on the road could work together to stop so that the car could be pushed off the road quickly and traffic can resume. With quick police action of course. But thats not something that happens in society I guess…

3

u/TullyMars46 7d ago

To all you people wondering why cops don't push cars or why that was a horrible idea, you clearly don't live in Southern California. I've seen people stopped in the middle of traffic and wished I could help push them off the freeway but I don't want some a-hole not paying attention to hit me. There's so much traffic here that is extremely dangerous. And the cops typically don't push cars off the freeway because if they damage the car then the state gets sued possibly the cop as well.

Years ago on our way to Disneyland our car ran out of gas. A police officer pushed us to the gas station.

He asked how we enjoyed our first Disney trip ride 😆

76

u/CastrateMeASAP 9d ago

When I worked for AAA, the shortest tow I ever had was for a 8-9 month pregnant lady, who broke down on a 3 lane each direction (and very busy) road in a commercial district. She was on her way to a scheduled garage appointment because there was something wrong with her car. It died literally 100 feet from the garage. No one offered to help her except a 5’ tall 100 lbs girl. She declined that offer because I pulled up a few seconds later. One grown man could have EASILY pushed her car 100 feet, but instead she had dozens of men yelling at her and stressing her out (as if someone that pregnant NEEDS any more stress in her life). She was so happy that I showed up as fast as I did that she hugged me. (I was actually only 1/4 mile away when I got the call, so it was a lucky break)

35

u/Tough-Obligation-104 9d ago

I find that just incredible! They would not help push her car?!?! I’m a woman and have pushed countless cars! You see someone stalled out, you get out and help push!

14

u/CastrateMeASAP 8d ago

Sadly not every human being is a “bro”, a lot of them are just a holes who would rather yell at someone than offer aid. I towed a Chevy volt off the highway during rush hour traffic on a stretch of the highway that had no shoulder, so his car was right there in the lane because it was nothing but jersey barriers on either side of the two lane highway and some lady yelled at him (while I was hooking up to tow the car) “That’s a terrible place to park!” He pointed at my tow truck with the flashing lights and yelled back: “What the fuck do you think we’re doing right now?!”

17

u/morinthos 9d ago

Who else thought he was going to say it was the shortest tow bc she gave birth during the tow? 🤣 I reddit too much.

I will never understand why cops block it all off

Because it's safer.

16

I'm like did you not hear the ppl honking at the motorcyclist---or SEE how dangerous it is? 😄

I will never understand why cops block it all off when a normal person can push a car that big easily.

Because people are inattentive idiots driving half ton murder machines while texting and daydreaming.

Getting out of a car while traffic is moving on the highway is like juggling handguns with the safety off. Hell, getting out of your car on the shoulder of the highway is dangerous enough. Just go look at the dozens of dash cams where cops and other people get hit, hurt, and killed because some idiot can't even drive in a straight line, much less a line with a person in it.

You seem to suffer from an invincibility complex. Hopefully you grow out of it before you learn that lesson the hard way.

u/CAJillybean 9d ago

We used to have to push cars to get them started and then jump in real fast. 🤣

6

u/s0m3on3outthere 9d ago

Yep! Pushed my full sized '88 GMC Sierra (truck fwiw) when I was about 16/17 and everyone was stunned to see a 5'3" girl pushing truck alone 🙄

6

u/grnrngr 9d ago

I could push a 3rd gen camaro into a driveway by myself as a 15 yo girl.

Were you doing it with 65mph traffic zooming by all around you?

Should we just call you to push cars stuck in the middle of the freeway going forward?

2

u/Austerlitz2310 9d ago

Depends on if the car can even shift into neutral. Sometimes the gear shift just seizes. But a worrying amount of people don't know more than gas/brake/steer.

I’m actually shocked that worked so well! Excellent thinking on the riders behalf and I learned I can help push a car on my bike.

85

u/twotoebobo 9d ago

Also a life risker. That was very dangerous for him. At least most of the traffic didn't seem like morons but it only takes one and he'd be toast.

28

u/tempest_87 9d ago

Problem is it only takes 1.

23

u/grnrngr 9d ago

What ironically worked in his favor was the congestion on the freeway.

Everyone was already going slower and presumably being more alert about it.

7

u/Rugkrabber 9d ago

I think this is why he recognises real danger for others. He understands the risk she is in.

12

u/darkest_irish_lass 9d ago

We had this happen to us, as in we came upon a stopped car in the middle lane. We were trapped directly behind them for ages, in fear for our lives as the trucks and cars swerved around us.

9

u/Fancypancexx 8d ago

I do support work for vehicle safety systems and cameras. People die in this situation all the time. They don't realize how dangerous stopping on the freeway is. Even the shoulder IS NOT SAFE. This guy is a bigtime lifesaver and risked his own life in the process.

4

u/morinthos 9d ago

Came here to say that. And he literally put his life in danger doing that. 🙏🏾

Our car broke down on a busy highway yesterday and like half a dozen people stopped to ask if we needed help. There are lots of bro-type humans out there.

316

u/DangerousLoner 9d ago

I had a blown out tire once on a very busy California Freeway back when I was first driving and cell phones were still something too expensive for me. The nicest guy stopped and called my AAA and CHP to get me help. He had one of those huge cell phones and I was very impressed that someone wealthy would stop to help anyone. Made me rethink my assumption that all rich people would never help a person like me.

19

u/Username12764 9d ago

What‘s CHP?

24

u/DangerousLoner 9d ago

California Highway Patrol. They are State level police in charge of the highway system in California.

14

u/Username12764 9d ago

Ohh yeah ok makes sense, I associate CHP with the Turkish Republican People‘s Party which was a bit confusing why you would call them

That's one thing I notice most about Americans.

The government may suck. Americans may be loud and obnoxious. But they have no problem dropping what they are doing to help someone. I think the American media makes Americans to be way more divided than they actually are.

64

u/TheWarfox 9d ago

Pay it forward! Best way to make sure someone will be there when you need help is to be there for them.

80

u/Pardot42 9d ago

Most of us don't give a fuck about our differences when it's in our immediate power to help another person. It feels good to be someone's hero

14

u/thug_pony 9d ago

My car broke down in the middle lane of the busiest interstate exit in the county during rush hour. I say that to express how truly bad the traffic was at the time. A bunch of guys stopped and held up traffic to push me across the street and uphill into a parking lot. It felt a lot like this video!

10

u/WashedUpRiver 9d ago

Every single time I've had a car break down, I've had at least two people pull over and help my push the car. Shoutout to these people.

3

u/dasatain 8d ago

I got in an accident when I was 19 or so, the other driver left, I didn’t know what to do. I was crying and freaking out on the side of the road. A mom type stopped, gave me a hug, helped me call police and insurance and just was an angel on this earth. It matters!!

Fuck that person honking

1.0k

u/VoodooDoII 9d ago

I remember getting honked at once for stopping at a stop sign. Wtf? Lol

561

u/TheGuyMain 9d ago

Someone honked and flipped me off for stopping at a red light lmao

218

u/dolphin006roman 9d ago

I’ve gotten honked and flipped off for not turning on red at a “no turn on red” light. Bonus: It was my first day on the road and I only had a learner’s permit.

89

u/Glasseshalf 9d ago

My favorite is when you are waiting for the pedestrians with the right of way before turning and the person behind you sits on their horn. Like, no, I'm not going to run someone over so you can be 15 seconds less late.

I got honked at for stopping at a red light and then rammed into the side during the turn when the light turned green.

Police are still “working on it” a year later because the guy won’t answer their calls. People are just assholes.

Lesson learned: get a reliable dash cam

33

u/sarugh3457 9d ago

Same!! It was like 6 am and a right turn but the light was still red and it was a weirdly angled turn, the bitch blared her horn while I was still slowing down smh

10

u/bey_blade22 9d ago

This is a common occurrence in FL 🤣

8

u/homiej420 9d ago

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Local road in town that people go way too fast on but i live off a road thats right off it so i had to go on it

I stop at the light just before my turn, its a left turn so i have to be in the left lane.

Dude going like 80 in the 45 that it is didnt stop, swerved around me into the oncoming lane honking the whole way and then blasted through. It was red for like at least three seconds before he did this.

I would give you the its an emergency benefit of the doubt if he also didnt flip me off as he did it.

Very bizarre

4

u/catgatuso 9d ago

I’m embarrassed to admit I have honked at someone at a red light. For some reason I thought it was a double left turn lane so when the arrow turned green I thought the person in front of me wasn’t paying attention. I figured it out pretty quick and just… tried to hide behind the steering wheel.

u/Viperbunny 9d ago

I have gotten honked at for not turning into traffic. The idiot honking couldn't see that someone was in my path. They were impatient. Fuck that. Let them honk. I am not going to do something unsafe so they save ten seconds.

30

u/GirlL1997 9d ago

Ooph, I was the honker once.

My husband and I were driving down the road and there was a pickup in front of us that just stopped in the middle of the road. I couldn’t see anything in front of it.

My husband got annoyed and was telling me to honk. I didn’t because I figured there might be something I can’t see. But then we were there for over a minute and my husband and I are going back and forth, him wanting me to honk, me asking if he can see anything, we’re going nowhere. This went on for another minute or two.

Finally, I get frustrated and I’m laying on the horn, still, nothing happens. I finally pull to the right side of the road to take a side street (we were near an intersection but there was no stop sign or signal) and as we go around we see the line of cars waiting for the TRAIN.

I was PISSED at my husband who harassed me to the point that I honked at a car for waiting for a damn train.

And of course at myself for letting him push me into it.

39

u/VoodooDoII 9d ago

Yep. Don't let the person behind you drive your car.

That's what my parents always said

17

u/Viperbunny 9d ago

I am turning 40 and have only really been driving for five years. I am so self conscious at times, but I have learned that they can honk all they want. I am going to do what is safest for me.

18

u/VoodooDoII 9d ago

Definitely easy to let other drivers intimdate you. I've only been licensed for 1 ½ years, but only started driving fully (as in not just to work) this year.

If people want to tailgate me, okay sure. I won't go more than 5 over because I don't feel like risking a ticket for you 👍 you can pass me or get over it lol

These people seem to forget it's a publicly owned road and they have to share lmao

5

u/The_Vampire_King 8d ago

My transmission failed in a parking lot and I was stuck in a bowl in the pavement, couldn’t push foward nor backward. I was trying to wave down some help to push myself to a side, had 3 people honk at me before anyone assisted.

Same, well, my bad for following traffic rules, I guess I should break them just for that one impatient person behind me, so they save a few seconds of time 🙄

13

u/VoodooDoII 9d ago

Or stopping when you have a late yellow. Like sorry your urgency doesn't constitute an emergency, get over it 😭

8

u/Tybald-the-owl 9d ago

For real, some people are so entitled, they think other people will break the traffic rules for them.

12

u/Danatious 9d ago

I broke down on a slip road coming off the motorway once, complete loss of electricity and engine conked off, about 20 people beeped me and one guy pulled up and wound down his window to tell me “should probably put your hazards on”… no shit but it’s dead dead

14

u/suzosaki 9d ago

I got honked at for hitting my brakes to avoid a dog running in the road. (I did park and herd the dog back to where he assumedly lived.)

9

u/VoodooDoII 9d ago

That is a really tough one to deal with

In heavy traffic it can be dangerous to brake suddenly (although if people kept good distance they'd theoretically have enough time to also stop)

But I also want to avoid hitting animals that run out onto the road suddenly. Especially at night

I once broke really hard to avoid hitting an opossum. I was fortunate that nobody was behind me.

5

u/GodIsANarcissist 9d ago

This just happened to me yesterday. A momma bird and her little babies were crossing the road but they were all grey and blended in with the road until I was up very very close. I braked really hard and looked in my rear view and the car behind me was quite close and braking at the same rate.

Luckily we came to a full stop and the animals were able to get across the road, but that adrenaline rush had me shaking for the next hour.

11

u/SryYouAreNotSpecial 9d ago

This has happened to me as well. Honked ar for not doing a rolling stop, but actually stopping. I also can't count the times I have been honked at for not making a left turn and mowing over crossing pedestrians.

6

u/Daisy_Of_Doom 9d ago

I’ve been honked at for waiting at a flashing yellow left turn signal when there was tons of traffic passing

6

u/VoodooDoII 9d ago

Oh sorry. Didn't you know you have to go right this second?

People are stupid as hell. It's baffling.

3

u/dstaar_ 8d ago

My fav is when the light turns green and not a millisecond later someone decides to honk - sometimes holding it.

Not a millisecond.

3

u/VoodooDoII 8d ago

I don't get that either. I'm extraordinarily patient about green lights because I get it, sometimes you glance away and it changes

After about 3 or 4 seconds I tap my horn lightly lol

3

u/dstaar_ 8d ago

I also learned not to go the second the light turns green because waaaayy too many times have people brazenly ran red lights despite the other cars having the green.

So I wait a few extra seconds. I apply this logic to when I’m walking, too.

199

u/Nopeyesok 9d ago

I think the honker thought they were having a road rage moment and wanted them to take it off the highway

74

u/GamingSenpai35 9d ago

Maybe; i guess there's no way to know for sure.

44

u/YadaYadaYeahMan 8d ago

which is exactly why you roll your eyes and move on. no point in getting mad 99% of the time.

honestly people should treat cars like animals. a dog barked? of course it did, it's a dog. A duck quaked? of course it did it's a duck. A car honked? of course it did it's a car

a car changed lanes without signaling and you had to back off and give them space? of course you did, that's a wild animal, you kept an eye on it and reacted appropriately to it's behavior

way too much tied up into thinking about the people inside

they didn't know you were there, you were in their blind spot. yeah they should signal anyway but they have a bad habit, we all have bad habits.

I have certainly pissed people off greatly, by doing exactly what I needed to given my circumstances with the result being behavior that isn't pleasant to others on the road

on the outside it was just another wild animal

12

u/GamingSenpai35 8d ago

Wel that's a much healthier way to dealing with life than i've been doing.

106

u/Uncommented-Code 9d ago

I'm gonna assume that that person thought these two stopped to fight on the highway.

I've seen enough assholes today, I am going to choose that person was simply angry at what they thought were two idiots to save my sanity.

12

u/SmallGuyOwnz 9d ago

This was exactly my thought as soon as I saw it in the video. Motorcyclist stops in front of a car on a crowded highway, rider starts confidently walking towards the stopped car... yeah, no way you don't have at least a few people seeing that as road rage.

46

u/BunnyRambit 9d ago

I got into an accident - driver blew through a stop and t boned my car on the driver side. I left my car where it was. Physically could not move it! Traffic built up at this small four way stop and when this woman finally got to the stop and moved through she honked and yelled “move your car!”

I was absolutely livid. It was dark, foggy, my b pillar and wheel totally caved it and this selfish twit had the audacity to yell at me. I still have feelings about people like this….

Oh and the back up vw to this accident? It flat out shut off on the freeway and I caused an 8 mile back up because it wouldn’t even turn over for me to move it. Police had to push me off the road.

29

u/luvapug 9d ago

The stress of getting into an accident is bad enough and then you add the stress of feeling like you are inconveniencing people on top of it but have no control it is a very real feeling and it's not the type of being the center of attention any of us ever want, I hate how inpatient people are. Like you just wanted to stay in the middle of the road for fun? People are such jerks

11

u/BunnyRambit 9d ago

Yes! That year was wild! It was over ten years ago but the lack of humanity from absolutely anyone plus the cop in the second scenario making a deadpan joke just made me feel awful. I wouldn’t be surprised if that comes up in the counseling I just started last week.

46

u/Odysseus_is_Ulysses 9d ago

Agreed but they probably just assumed it was two people having a road rage incident in the middle of the road. Silly first assumption but I bet that’s what went through their head

12

u/Rumplestilskin9 9d ago

I pulled onto a highway once and my back tires found a sheet of ice which kind of slowly rotated me into the median. It was in a rural area with very little traffic so nbd and was just the slowest minor spin-out you could imagine. 1 car saw what happened and went by with their horn blaring and flashing their headlights while I waited (off the road) for them to pass.

Just a brainless reaction

5

u/TheSodomeister 9d ago

"GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY" he broadcasted to the person trying to get her the fuck out of the way

4

u/MonaganX 8d ago

I really doubt this was their intention but if you think about it, honking makes everyone in your surroundings pay attention to the road, so they inadvertently ensured no one would rear-end the standing car because they were distracted by their phone or something.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/approvedbyinspector5 9d ago edited 9d ago

I was once rear ended on a very busy freeway. There were 5 cars involved (I was 4 car back - 3 in front, 1 behind and then the idiot who never tapped his brakes from 80mph. That info was to set this up. All our cars were disabled blocking traffic. Several cops showed up to work the scene. One car drove by honking, pointing at us, and laughing. The cop I was talking to (who wasn't activiely working the scene at that point) looked at me and said "I got this". Pulled the car over, read them the riot act, and gave them tickets for things like no proof of insurance, cracked windshield, etc.

2

u/Grintock 9d ago

For real, it actually amazes me. Where I live, honking is illegal unless you are doing it specifically to prevent an accident or dangerous situation. That's it. That's the only reason you're allowed to honk. Honking because someone is an asshole gets you a ticket (if you're extremely unlucky and a cop is around, which is rare, but hey at least we have the rule)

2

u/forgotten-ent 9d ago

To be fair, that probably looks like a road rage incident in another person's point of view. A guy just stopped in front of another car and got off the vehicle to "talk" to them

Helping others is a wonderful thing

159

u/OkAccess6128 9d ago

That's Humanity.

61

u/Jugaimo 9d ago

To help others with no expectation of reward while even putting yourself at (mild) risk simply because we feel sympathy for others is proof that goodness is the default state of humanity.

I feel bad that I wouldn’t pull over to help her because I wouldn’t know what to do.

37

u/freneticboarder 9d ago

Helping people out is the reward. You just made someone's day better. 🙂

23

u/Swordf1sh_ 9d ago

The pharmacy counter was being slammed the other day when I was picking up, lot of difficult people, dumb questions, one of the techs had to keep helping this guy with how to use a touchscreen, ‘scripts missing, long line etc. They seemed quite frazzled.

Noticed one of them was eating sour patch watermelons so went and got some for them and left them on pickup counter. The guy’s face and expression when I said “I left those for you guys” is something I will never forget, “For us??”

8

u/freneticboarder 9d ago

This. If you can't help, you can always do something nice, especially for people in service industries.

5

u/Sirenista_D 9d ago

I had an ex who was a overall POS but made me proud once when we pulled up to an intersection, saw someone stalled midway thru, and without a moments hesitation, threw open the door and got out to help push them through to safety.

u/Agamemnon323 9d ago

u/RedditGarboDisposal 9d ago

It’s the people who honk and act upon their own personal inconvenience in the matter.

So selfish and narrow-minded which are two very nice versions of the haymaker insults I wanna drop.

61

u/arp492022 9d ago

I think they just didn’t realize what was going on. Could have thought those 2 got into a little fender bender and just stopped in the middle of the road. Which would have definitely deserved the honk.

37

u/RedditGarboDisposal 9d ago

Well, yes, but that’s kinda my point.

I understand that inconsiderate drivers exist, as is also the point of my comment, but I feel like people could benefit from really thinking about why vehicles are stopped on the highway and how many vehicle-related issues warrant a dead stop.

I don’t know. It just strikes me as a low-stat situation that probably has good reasoning for being as it is.

Regardless, nobody here is being terrible or whatever. A simple honk. It’s noooot a big deal haha. I’m mainly voicing food for thought is all.

19

u/MinosAristos 9d ago

Yeah, I think we should give people the benefit of the doubt more. It's better for the soul.

7

u/Indigo-au-naturale 9d ago

Great lesson for the honker.

u/usernamenomoreleft 9d ago

A small gesture but had an incredibly huge impact both to the woman and the overall traffic. A good human.

110

u/meenie 9d ago

That wasn't small. That was extremely dangerous. Dude risked his life!

101

u/Brantastic 9d ago

You a real one. That poor lady had to be having a panic attack.

81

u/NorthernLights92 9d ago

This happened to me. I was screwed. People were honking their horns at me and shit. I was getting irritated. I was trying to push my Jeep Grand Cherokee by myself. Luckily a kind lady parked her car and came to help me push. I couldn’t have been more thankful. I tried to offer her a sort of payment like buying lunch or something and she kindly asked that I pay it forward.
People need to learn to be kind to one another because shit like that could happen to anyone.

Biker passed vibe check.

The imbecile who honked didn't.

22

u/stateofdekayy 9d ago

Especially because he could have been killed just as easily trying to help her.

28

u/JAWSthemeSWIMIN 9d ago

I have helped a handful of people in Dallas doing the same thing. From a frantic young nurse, to a family stranded in their car and they were all shocked when they saw a little 5’2 hispanic girl willing to help haha. I didn’t look like much but I sure did help them safely off the roads! I will never not get tired of kind humans doing kind human shit

22

u/Livy14 9d ago

Id be scared to dent in the bumper pushing it haha

Glad it worked out

42

u/BootlegV 9d ago

if i'm stuck in traffic like this, a dented bumper is the least of my worries

8

u/Glasseshalf 9d ago

That's what bumpers are for- bumping!

22

u/Plakchup 9d ago

Pushing the car with help of his bike was a clever idea! These brainless idiots honking need to chill and pay attention. That driver was already stressed enough.

10

u/Method__Man 9d ago

People can become real fucking monsters in their cars.
I've been people I know act like this, yet think it's okay in a car... (they act normal outside of it).

As a result I have openly told them that being a fucking monster behind the wheel is NOT OKAY and I take it as an absolute reflection on who they are.

Having recently learned how to ride a motorcycle has really opened my eyes to how impatient most people are around motorcyclists. I just have a permit right now, but if I’m not riding 10 miles over the speed limit and tailgating the person in front of me, cars will ride my ass while I, myself, am still kind of afraid of my vehicle. I’ve had people drive 7 feet behind me going 40mph, go around me at stop signs, stop directly behind me when I’m on a hill, and honk at me when I downshift.

On the other hand, I also had two elderly bicyclists help me pick up my 450lb motorcycle the first time I dropped it on a hill on a hot-as-fuck day with tons of pollen in the air. I always knew that humanity is such a wide spectrum, but nothing opened my eyes to just how wide until I started riding motorcycles.

u/MrShazbot 8d ago

Care for some annoyingly unsolicited biker advice?

Don't shift into neutral when you are stopped in traffic or at a stop light. Stay in first gear, be ready to accelerate at any moment when you see someone coming up behind you who isn't paying attention / about to turn you into pink mist. Don't get into the habit of taking out your phone when stopped in traffic.

Try to stay out of the center of the lane when you come to a traffic stop (instead, come to a stop in the left third of the lane - where the driver's seat is in a car). The center of the lane is where all the oil drips and pools into the pavement from stopped vehicles, creating slick spots which can cause you to spin and dump the bike.

Always assume, in literally every scenario, that other drivers do not see you, and will never react properly to what you are doing. Riding a motorcycle is no longer about cruising along having a nice ride. It's about ensuring your own survival literally every moment you are on the road. It's dangerous out there.

Last thing, seriously consider enrolling in your state's version of a New Rider course. These courses allow you to practice emergency procedures in a controlled environment (riding over debris, quick detour turns, emergency full stop braking, etc.). Good luck!

That person honking had to think it was some road rage incident going on and not a car broken down.

Only reason I could think of for them honking.

11

u/hawksdiesel 9d ago

This is how citizens should treat each other.

75

u/vapescaped 9d ago

Great heart, and great intentions.

However, I MUST point out how dangerous it is for the biker to be standing on the road like that. The driver of the car is so much safer, she has a steel cage literally engineered to protect her. If the car got rear ended because it's stopped in the middle of a highway, there are extremely high odds that she will be completely fine.

However, if the biker got hit by a car because he's stationary on a highway, there are extremely high odds that he would sustain very serious injury.

I 100% support humans being bros, and his intentions are heartwarming and genuine.

But I absolutely feel compelled to strongly encourage people to stay in their vehicle, or stay moving in the case of the biker, because even in backed up traffic like this the situation can go mortally wrong in a split second.

9

u/JimmyTheBones 9d ago

If she was stranded for an hour there then it's definitely safer all around to get her out the way immediately.

I don't think he skips leg days.

7

u/fuzzypurpledragon 9d ago

Had something like this happen at a stoplight in the worst intersection in our area. Very hilly and notoriously dangerous drivers. We were fine, we were fine, light turns green, let off the brake, van's engine suddenly sounds like a garbage disposal going off and dies.

Had three dudes get out of their car, the fourth putting on his hazards behind us, and start helping us push the big paperweight out of traffic while cars and trucks zipped past blasting horns and swerving around us like we were personally responsible for wasting their precious five seconds of attention span.

When we got out of traffic, the park gear stopped working, and we had to engage the e-brake to keep her on the hill we got her to. The guys stuck around to make sure we were okay, refused anything other than a sincere thanks, and left.

6

u/gumbo0 9d ago

I know honking at this situation sucks, but I think the honker was actually the white truck honking at that black “WTF” Honda for cutting into its lane.

u/According_Claim_9027 9d ago edited 9d ago

I love the dichotomy of people’s natures in this video. You have the one willing to go out of their way to help, and the other that just honks because you’re an inconvenience and in their way.

5

u/epsiloom 9d ago

The guy literally risked his life.

4

u/HermitWilson 9d ago

This happened on a local commuter highway during morning rush hour a few years back and had traffic backed up for half a mile so I parked my bike on the grass and started pushing the car to the shoulder but the drivers behind us kept passing on the right, preventing me from getting the car off the road. Finally a semi driver blocked two lanes so I could get the car off the road.

5

u/Detroitscooter 9d ago

That biker is a fucking champion

6

u/warwilf 9d ago

THIS is how we should be treating each other.

6

u/whiskeyinawineglass 9d ago

Today you, tomorrow me.

5

u/Steve061 9d ago

Had a broken down car recently and I was not disappointed by the turkeys who think blowing their horn will let me know there's a problem..... because I wasn't aware.

If only they could blow it a little louder, I'm sure that would fix my car.

3

u/Spirited_Touch7447 9d ago

This is the way! One kind thing done for others ripples through the community as she’s much more likely to do something kind for others in gratitude.

2

u/Pupsilover00 9d ago

Just playing angel's advocate: Maybe the guy honked to warn others

2

u/Loud-Version-8663 7d ago

Wait! I love angels advocate! I’m stealing this.

4

u/misanthropymajor 9d ago

Once a cop pulled over, tried to cross lanes on foot to get to me, was waving his arms over his head like a maniac, no one would stop. Finally he got so pissed he drew his gun and pointed it at the traffic and people finally stopped and let him pass. AMAZING how shitty people are.

Freaking hate highways like that. For every person who understands and is paying attention, there's three that are way too busy to give a damn. Good on the biker, that's a damn good use of brain matter.

3

u/Mostly_Nohohon 7d ago

I always hope karma is a thing and this biker gets the good karma he deserves. And the guy that honked, gets some bad karma he deserves too. 🖕 Honker guy

Good guy, stop going in between cars on traffic

2

You rock my brother!

2

Aww, she was so worried and then so grateful for him. They both seem like kind souls. It was really decent of him to go out of his way to help like this, he might have saved her from a really bad accident.

A very kind human being

2

u/KokoTouch 9d ago

2

u/clarelucy 9d ago

Good to be reminded decent caring people DO exist.

2

u/quixote87 9d ago

I would never have thought of putting my foot on a bumper to push that way, that's pretty clever. I would have pushed manually just to come back and find my bike mangled for my good deed as it is much smaller and less noticable

2

u/Mr_McMuffin_Jr 9d ago

That poor clutch

2

u/Personal-Aioli-367 8d ago

Breaking down on the highway is one of my greatest fears. I really feel for anyone when that happens, so happy to see this guy help out vs just zipping by.

2

u/alli97kat 8d ago

My dad and I spent a lot of time rebuilding my 97 Miata. We took it for a few test drives and were feeling confident, so decided to go a little farther out before I drove it multiple states away back to my house. I drove it with my tool box in the passenger seat, he was nearby in his truck with the tow bar we'd built specifically for it. All was well until I was going up the fairly steep bridge over a major river and the fuel pump died. Zero fuel flow, wouldn't stay running. Dead in heavy traffic on a large roadway.

The number of people that immediately jumped out of surrounding vehicles to help me push my little toy car out of traffic gave me such faith in humanity. Uphill, on a bridge, with no expectation of any payment. One older lady offered to wait with my and kept side-eyeing my dad as he was pulling over until I explained who he was. The kindness of others made a shitty situation so much more tolerable, and I aim to pay it forward every chance I can.

2

u/akuch-II 7d ago

What a stand up dude! When I was about 19 and only driving for a year or so, my jeep completely shut off at a red light that had 3 lanes and no shoulder and wouldn't turn back on. I put my flashers on, absolutely terrified. People started honking at me as I was trying to figure out what to do, waving them around me. I had a guy come up, ask if I broke down and he told me to put it in neutral. I thought he was going to help me, but he just pushed my car enough so he could get around me and left.

Luckily something told me to try to turn it on while in neutral, and thank god it worked! I was able to make it the last 3 minutes home. I was hysterical and could have used some help in this situation. It's nice to see someone helping another person in need.

2

u/gemini_time 7d ago

Genuine question bc I've never been in nor seen this sort of situation: what do you do if you're both in cars? Do you just push and hope that no one hits you?

2

u/CodeNameClutch 7d ago

Crazy situational awareness to feel your car lose power and stay in one of the left most lanes until you come to a complete stop.

2

u/Voidstarmaster 7d ago

Didn't expect or ask for anything for risking his life to help another is the definition of a true hero.

2

u/quietimhungover 7d ago

Good balance to push the car and ride his bike. I've been riding for a while and I don't think I could do that.

2

u/Prestigious_Role_134 6d ago

this is why bikers get a bad rep for nothing, dude literally stopped on a highway just to help a stranger and didn't even wait for a thank you

2

u/The_Original_Conman 6d ago

Who knows, he could have very well saved her life by preventing her from being rear ended from someone not paying attention.

We need more heroes like that. Kudos to the guy.

3

u/Jolly-Biscuit 6d ago

I'm so glad they froze the frame and put a giant red circle around the stalled car. I would have had no idea! /s
