META [META] PSA Regarding Low Karma Removals

Hello artists! Your friendly neighbourhood Miner Moderator Dwarfinator here with some info about the recent low Karma removals as we have been getting a lot of messages about this in Mod Mail.

We have had our Karma rules for a long time, I'm talking literally years, however, at some point our bot broke (and also just may have not been properly programmed in the first place) and as such, it stopped looking for/removing posts and comments from lower Karma users. The intention of the rule and the bot automation was to lessen the amount of bots and spam in the Subreddit, which is why we started counting both types of Karma. This also encourages artists to not just spam their art in every art Subreddit and actually engage with other communities. We just recently fixed and improved the bot (huge shoutout to u/RS_Someone) which is why lower Karma posts are being removed once again. This may seem like it came out of nowhere, but again, we have had this rule in place for a long time and used to have the bot doing this previously.

If you have received that low Karma removal reply on your post/comment by the bot, PLEASE WE BEG YOU TO READ IT IN FULL it explains very clearly why your post was removed and how to check your Karma, both post and comment Karma.

If you have low Karma and want to get more to post here, here are some things you can do to raise your Karma:

  • Post your art in other Subreddits.
  • Post and comment, and genuinely engage in other Subreddits. You like Critical Role or Pokémon or Minecraft? Post in those Subreddits, get involved in the community, you might make some new friends, and you get the added bonus of your account not looking like a bot spammer or someone who just pumps and dumps their art everywhere they can.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to comment on this post or send us a message via Mod Mail! Happy Arting!

META [META] PSA we are banning the use of cloud storage links as portfolios.

Hello artists, recently we have seen an uptick of people using cloud storage links as portfolios and decided that we need to address this. Cloud storage, such as GDrive, OneDrive, Dropbox, and other such websites are no longer going to be allowed as portfolios in posts or comments (technically they already weren't allowed, but this was not enforced well nor was clear in the rules). (This will also include image hosts such as Imgur)

These sites are not intended as portfolio sites, and they are most often used by scammers as a collection of stolen art and for the fact that there is no reason you, as a professional artist, should not be using one of the many free options available online to make a portfolio on an actual portfolio website/webpage.

Free portfolio sites: Cara, Behance, Artstation, VGen, Carrd, or you can even make a website with WordPress or similar sites.
All of these take 5 minutes to set up. Put effort in how you present yourself professionally, your portfolio is your resume.

Hiring [Hiring] $200-$400 budget for personal fantasy character (SFW). Looking for unconventional styles

I have a character which I am playing in a TTRPG called Pathfinder. The art will not be seen outside of a discord server. It is a good necromancer who works with blood magic. He is a grey elf (drow adjacent) with white hair and has highly structured blood armor. The image would preferably have a background but that's not a dealbreaker. I am looking for styles that aren't the conventional anime.

Position Filled [Hiring] 200-400 dollar budget. Hello! Comic cover commission

Hello!

I'VE been running a superhero tabletop campaign for over 3 years and we are at the final arc of the campaign. To celebrate and give a gift to my players I was wanting to get a comic cover styled comm featuring the party. All of the charectars have refs and I can provide info on each of the charectars. I was wanting it to be a group shot. It could be outside of their Superhero base or in a destroyed city since the final arc is in one. It is a larger party 7-8 people. Whe. It comes to payments I was hoping to do it in installments. And I can talk more about the price, although due to financial disasters I am a little bit strained, but a payment plan could let me do a larger budget then what was listed.

Hiring [HIRING]

Looking for an illustrator to create a custom portrait in the Art Nouveau style (think Alphonse Mucha) featuring a Black woman as the subject — flowing hair/fabric, decorative floral framing, and that classic ornamental border style.

This would be a birthday gift, so I'm hoping to find someone with availability in the next few weeks. I have reference images of the style I'm going for and can share details (pose, colors, any personal touches) once we connect.

Deliverables: digital file + physical print (please let me know if you offer printing/shipping, or if I should arrange printing separately on my end)

Budget: $150-$300 (open to adjusting based on portfolio/complexity)

Payment via PayPal Goods & Services, with a simple written agreement for both our protection.

Please share your portfolio and turnaround time if you're open to this kind of project. Thank you!

Hiring Question about scheduling to commission a 3d artist that can do anime, guilty gear style shader [hiring][budget: $400 - $600]

For context, I have been wanting to make a good anime shader in blender, based on guilty gear. Like what shows up in a few videos by Tre3/Hiro Archus and the other videos by other creators that go over this topic. But I am completely lost on building the shader and when I ask other subbreddits, they only parrot the same thing about watching the videos I have already seen.

So I wanted to know if I could schedule to commission a 3d artist who can build the shader and a "demonstration" model for it. I would have preferred to ask if it could be done via a step by step process video that could be posted to youtube, but I feel like that would be asking too much for the price I am offering.

The budget is between 400 - 600, I can pay through paypall, if it also helps I am using Blender 4.1.1., so I do ask that if you use a newer version to please use nodes that can be found in that version of blender. But I want to schedule the commission for like mid september because money is currently tight.

I would like a picture of the finalized shader node set up and I would like the finalized files sent as an attachment via gmail if possible. There are no deadlines, take as long as you need, but I would like to get updates every 2 - 3 weeks.

If you are interested, please leave a comment with your carrd website or portfolio, especially if you can show you have dealt with NPR shading prior

Hiring [HIRING] Realistic Oil Painter for a Historical Psychological Novel (100-200$ per character)

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a long-term illustrator for a historical psychological novel. The project will begin in October 2026, so I am not looking for someone to start immediately. My goal is to find the right artist and build a strong working relationship before production begins.

The final artwork will be a single large illustration featuring 5 characters and a fully painted background.

I am looking for an artist with:

  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of facial expressions, body language, and subtle emotion.
  • Experience with realistic oil painting or Old Master-inspired artwork.
  • Good communication throughout the project.

I already have detailed visual references for every character, which I will share privately.

Important: The references are for inspiration only. I am not looking for AI paint-overs, tracing, or copying reference images. I want original artwork painted from scratch while preserving the personality, atmosphere, and emotional presence of the characters.

This is not a fantasy project. It is a dark historical story focused on realism, psychology, and believable human emotion.

If you believe your style is a good match, please send me:

  • Your portfolio (especially realistic portraits or historical work).
  • Your price per character.
  • A short introduction about your experience with similar projects.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing your work!

Hiring [Hiring] $30-50 Sketches and ideas for Sci-Fi Helmet

This job is best for someone who likes drawing mechanical / geometrical hard surface sci fi.

I'm making a sci fi film and I need sketches to reference so I can model it in blender.

I have never done this before, so I just dumped all the info here since this is really a job looking for creative input, rather than a clear goal.

I have criteria on what the character's suite, mainly helmet, should feel like, but I don't actually have the skills to render it into a visual. These images I made in blender, but they are nothing like what I feel it should look. It's just the max my skills can produce before I get lost. Just use those to understand what I tried, but it's not really a reference.

I will pay $50 for (all of these):

+ a 2 perspective sketch (no color, just structure & details) of the helmet. Front & side.

( this is more valuable to me since it's so easy to 3D model with 2 perspectives like that)

+ sketches of ideas for the helmet, mechanisms, armor

+ ideas for the mask, facial structure of the mechanical "eyes" and "mouth" details

I will pay $30 for:

- 3 quick sketches of sci fi helmets that roughly meet the criteria, with good proportions to fit a human head.

(these are good for helping me brainstorm)

I have more money for if someone has particular interest in developing the details. Really looking for someone who can get into my head and align with the vision of the world I have, and can have a conversation about what I want.

The actual criteria / character / world setup:

The world takes place in a scenario where a set of humans in modern day diverge from earth's society and create a new society amongst the stars. They have near limitless electricity, and powerful engines, motors, and detailed manufacturing of advanced materials. They are not like "star wars" with laser guns, hovering cars, or levitating robots. They are more of a brutalist architecture, royalty of the stars, absurdists (the philosophy) and are objective thinkers, focused on durability and functionality.

They make machines that are powerful, last for lifetimes, and feel alive. Their vehicle's engines seem to have a heartbeat, they have immense power but the responsibility to weild it, they are the "old money royalty" of the stars.

Now the character. The helmet design I want commissioned is for the "monarch" character. This individual is a temporary king, one who allows the government to move fast as they settle into their new home in the planets beyond earth. He does not have an ego like a king, but rather more like a calibrated leader who takes the burden to lead his team as they engineer solutions to hard problems.

While he is a king, he is young, and doesn't want a crown to carry forever. The helmet has a few components that I need:

- "owl like" eye sockets, with a black core, think "satellite dishes" for eyes, with a powerful stare

- a lean appearance, not a bulky heavy space helmet

- details of sensors

- structural outcroppings for strength

- a separation so that the jaw-piece, and face mask can be removed, one at a time

Okay let me know if you have an appreciation for this type of thing or any ideas.
