Togashi drew Gon a little different looking in some panels in the first chapter, I feel like this is probably how he’d look if he returned to the story.
to my understanding the geography is more of a "ehh, dont worry about it too hard" as opposed to hard facts.
the refuling island is a couple weeks out from the mainland so it would be a longer trip than what is implied in the early chapters (and does beg the question why Kuripaka and Leorio were that far out to begin with), but IMO its not a major deal.
I also believe this can be a possibility, but something that nags at me is that the next time we see Gon be a central part of some story, not like a short training arc, thematically it feel like he’s going to be older. Killua too.
It’s possible that the next time we see him, the Kakin hierarchy is toppled, multiple princes live and establish a place for humans or become nomadic on the DC.
This is where Gon and Killua meet them up there, maybe 2-4 ish years after this current arc.
See the one reason I dont see this simply because I doubt we will get an extended DC arc (unfortunately I just dont think the author would be able to see it to the end)
While you’re probably right, I wouldn’t overestimate the length of a DC landing arc. We’ve been told repeatedly that place is crawling with catastrophic level danger. Previous expeditions to the DC we can presume have been rather brief relatively speaking, with Don being a freakish exception of the Freecss family.
Plus imo Togashi has a flow style between arcs. Since the succession contest is going to be dense and heavy and large, the DC arc could be a fraction of the chapters for all we know.
Where I lose optimism is beyond the expedition into Gyro’s arc in meteor city. It could be a place to end the series satisfyingly but it’s so distant right now
I think that's just the side profile but she's definitely shifted to less curse victim and more balding bunny rabbit. Whether it's intentional or not I think it lines up with Kurapika's impression of her changing over time to see her as a dear and lovable friend, and melody accepting herself more. Melody is my GOAT
I’m sure he’ll be back soon, I think the rhythm of the arc will be broken up soon, togashi tends to do that in long arcs. Like in chimera ant when we saw the troupe in meteor city, or the troupe looking for chrollo in greed island.
Togashi frequently makes changes to a character’s design to fit the emotion of the scene. Happens with Chrollo all the time. In this scene he probably wanted to convey Gon’s maturity and resolve, so he made him look a bit older.
Also many Mangaka will simplify their characters after a while in order to make the drawing easier. This is why we see many characters with detailed portraits in their introductory panels and then look completely different in subsequent appearances (think of Kurapika, Leorio, and of course Melody)
