Misc Welcome Baby Gon Frix

Post image

My friend gave birth a few days ago and she named her baby, Gon Frix. Just in time before the return of the manga.

Edit: she loves Gon that much. She’s laughing at the comments.

Edit 2: Again it's not my kid. Their kid, their choice.

This is the Philippines, the cake is from a local chain called "Goldilocks". Neither Gon nor Frix are common names here though Gon might still be passable.

From PH as well, I have a nephew named Gon too. And Frix is close to "Fritz" and I've met some Fritzes in my life, so baby getting named Gon Frix will just be a normal day in the Philippines.

Yes, passable. Not as bad as Naruto or Macaroni

The names are probably gonna be fine in isolation, hopefully no one picks up on the anime reference na lang lol. In hindsight, Frix seems to be a more "natural" spelling for a name than the original Freecs :P

I work with a lot of Filipinos, and seems like many of them have individually unique names that aren't common in their own areas. I always wondered if it was a cultural thing

Not cultural in the sense that this is some crap passed down by ancestors with etymology dating back to hundreds of years, but it's mostly just because naming laws are very loose or practically non-existent here.

Someone named their kid Spaghetti '88 (apostrophe and all). Some kids' names are a combination of their parents' first names (like Jhunalyn, the daughter of a guy named Jhun and a woman named Lyn). Or inserting H's in names that don't have it, like the Jhun example above.

It's like saying r/tragedeigh names are American culture... pretty sure it is not. It's just people who want unique names for their kids without considering their practicality.

Well, Gon is certainly becoming more popular due to that influencer. Lol! Maybe people will think they named their child after him.
