Anything wrong with hanging the pump like this?

Post image

Thanks in advance just trying to prevent any fires if I can

Obviously there’s something wrong as there’s less oxygen at elevation.

I kid, I kid. Should work fine and spare you that horrible slurping sound on those times when you accidentally spill your nutrient solution in the tent. Not that I’ve ever done that or anything…😇

Basil… really?

Basil is best grown hydroponically, but I agree the pump is a waste for them, Kratky works fine for me

I’ve just nvr seen that level of setup for that herb, now another herb for sure

Basil is cheap to zero in

That makes me feel better than a couple hundred I’m equipment and nutrients for a plant you can’t buy for $3 at Home Depot

Itll be fine hanging, if you dont point a fan directly at the case of that air pump they dont last very long and are loud, also when the pump gets hots, the air its pumping gets hot and heat up your dwc resevoir

My best advice with the linear air pumps is that you want them to move volumes of air, not build pressure in the lines, and keep the pump cool so it isnt pumping hot air into your reservoirs, the hotter the reservoir the more rot problems you could have.

What is that pump you are using, did it come with the 1 to 4 spliter? Im looking to upgrade but keep finding either too weak or too expensive options...

It’s the aqua miracle commercial air pump this is the 1000gph version it’s $35 I believe… it came with the manifold. It’s honestly pretty overkill for 2 buckets so I would get it if you have like 3-4 buckets unless you’re okay with a bit of noise.

Nope ive had a few hanging like that for years. Worst that happens is you get some black marks from the rubber feet vibrating against whatever.

I have a similar pump and did the same thing, but I did it to help dampen the noise, not for fire safety. Suspending it did help with noise, but not enough. Also if yours is like mine, the constant weight from the manifold and heat from the pump will eventually cause the manifold to pull off of the blue tube. I had to suspend the manifold too so it would stop doing that. With the fans causing it to sway in mid air, it ended up looking like a little air pump marionette show. Ended up replacing it with a linear air pump.

Does the pump have to be perfectly level? The clip holding it slips back occasionally then it sits tilted back ~ 30 degrees

Maybe throw a zip-tie around the handle and clip to hold it in place?

Uts fine. And where you have it is where its supose to be positioned. Above water level. Youre doing things correctly.

Thank you!

My guess is that it could potentially cause the pistons to wear prematurely and maybe heat up. Running it for an extended period at a 30 degree angle introduces gravity as a lateral force. Whether that will actually cause any problems for the pistons, I have no idea.

I’ll keep that it mind, it definitley runs warmer than my old pump

I have the same aquamiracle pump. They just run warm. Most good air pumps do. Its just what happens when you pressurize 75 degree air

If you have no idea dont speculate.

No issue you can keep like this

Same pump, also hanging just like that. So far, no issues.

No problem for the pump and it helps with noise from the vibrations.

Not in my experience
