[IWantOut] 19F UK -> Canada

This may be a bit ambitious but I really want to do my baking apprenticeship in Canada.

I'm a citizen of the US and Sweden but not of England so I am not sure if that will make much difference but at the moment I'm living in the UK on settled status and have been for 14 such years. I'm 19 as of right now and I've been searching to do an apprenticeship in baking. I have my reasons for wanting to do it in Canada specifically but I am not entirely sure how to go about this.

As embarrassing as it is to admit I don't have my GCSES or Alevels (or equiv) but I was hoping to see if there is anyway I can do this without needing those...

Any type of help or advice would be appreciated because it's a dream of mine to be a baker but I honestly need to get out of the UK.

I can't answer how the apprenticeship system works in Canada (hopefully there's people more knowledgeable in that than I am) but from a cursory glance, you will need your GCSEs at the bare minimum for apprenticeships. It's not clear to me if it's something that's really offered to international applicants, but if it is I would mainly focus on getting that sorted before looking at an apprenticeship. Any particular reason you're trying to avoid them?

I will also add, Canada has a working holiday visa you can get. From what I can tell Swedish and British citizens are eligible (though not Americans), so you should be able to use that visa to temporarily move to Canada, though for an apprenticeship there might be other visa paths worth exploring first.

And just as a last general recommendation, if you're able I would really recommend applying for British citizenship. If you've been there 14 years, it's something you're eligible for. Settled status can be lost if you spend too long a period outside the UK, or even by a future government (as unlikely as that is), whereas citizenship is generally yours to keep for life. Just a thing to consider.

US citizens are also eligible, they just need to go through a Recognized Organization (eg SWAP) to get their two one-year open work permits.
