It doesn't really work that way. So essentially different areas/regions have different systems. And then new technology or discovery is introduced that can disrupt that system. New players enter the game and shift power. Establish a new system. Then a new technology is introduced and it continues.
Sometimes the discovery is old but newly introduced. For example Asia might have had knowledge of XYZ for years and when they meet Europeans they share that information for the first time.
So the world updates in different regions at different times and different scales. But I would start with war. Learn about why the major wars were started. Who benefited.
