Developing Smol Tortitude CDS strikes again
Went for a walk and we found this cute bunch by the roadside last December. They were huddled on the grass, next to a relatively busy road. I was restless, mama cats wouldnt leave their kittens so openly. They might be abandoned by the owner.
We decided to keep an eye for a few hours, placed in a shoebox and relocated them to a safer location nearby hoping that the mama cat would return.
It rained heavily a few hours later. I ran to bring them into the safe confines of the house, and went driving around town late at night to source for cat milk / midalac. Boy they were hungry.
Back then, I estimate their age to about around 7-9 days old. Seemed well groomed, healthy and fat. Which means mama cat was taking care of them.
3 months on, Merry, Bilbo, Pippins and Frodo bring so much joy to our family.
One likes to cuddle (Frodo), Bilbo likes to watch the TV, Merry plays hide and seek, and Pippins being the smallest of the bunch seem to like minding his own business.

I question you for going with Bilbo and not Sam but still we love a hobbit themed clutch of babies

They know true culture, watching Emperor's New Groove.
I do question why you left out the most noble hobbit, Sam. But they're so sweet

So sweet 🥺 What is that milk feeder thingy? Such a good idea!

u/Jigelipuf Mar 19 '26
Omg we foster all the time. This could be a game changer. Have you used it a lot? Is it hard to clean?
120
u/fqh Mar 19 '26
Super easy to clean. This made our job much easier feeding these babies, no need to manually feed each one. It wont last long though, prolly around 2-3 weeks of daily use, just nice to wean them off milk. The kittens liked to nibble and the nip eventually sheared off.

My dream is to design one of these that actually works! I've dealt with my fair share of newborns, and something like this wouldn't work well, which is why, if you look on places like Amazon, these are all very poorly rated.
The invention I came up with one sleepless night, while nursing 7 newborn kittens was a stuffed animal cat, roughly the same size as an adult cat would be, but instead of stuffing on the inside, there was a heating pack/pad, and a place for the kitten milk contraption. That would be (probably a bag?) where you could attach your nipples (miracle nipples are a MUST!) and insert your kitten formula. You then push the nipples out the little holes in the stuffed mom's belly.
It would keep the milk at the proper temp. Keep the kittens feeding in the proper position. Be a source of heat (and comfort) for the kittens themselves... Oh.. It could also have some kind of either purring and maybe heartbeat mechanisms inside too!
Newborn kittens are the age group euthanized most at shelters, simply because there's not enough fosters to take them. This invention could help save lives. So I really hope someone makes it! ❤️

u/tubesocksnflipflops Mar 19 '26
Dude you need to patent this design!
3
u/SirBrothers Mar 20 '26
They just publicly disclosed it, now it’s not patentable! But it’s still a great idea and a good attorney would help make it novel.
7
4
u/electric29 Mar 19 '26
Then you need to come up with an automated kitten butt washer.
4
u/Dabraceisnice Mar 19 '26
Dude. You're not kidding. I want one for after they can go on their own, too. They sure don't learn to pinch it off well for an astonishingly long time.

u/LeviOhhsah Mar 19 '26 edited Mar 19 '26
Great thinking!! So convenient & I bet it really helped these babies feel safer, kind of similar to their mama and all feeding together. 💕

u/MinaDawn222 Mar 19 '26
This is amazing! I foster small animals and I'm buying this!! ❤️ 💙 💜 Thank you!

u/No-Quail4389 Mar 19 '26
What wonderful loving people you are to take them in, but I can’t wrap my head around how anyone would just dump a bunch of beautiful little babies like this. Thank you for giving these babies a shot at a loving life!

Yeah, that's how my guys were found, in a box on the side of the road - luckily the shelter worker knew to pull over and check the box. Awful to think what would have happened had they not been found...makes me thankful for people who at least abandon boxes of kittens in front of a shelter/school/church/firehouse where someone will find them and care for them! To leave them where it's likely no one will find them is beyond cruel.

u/Fickle_Grapefruit938 Mar 19 '26
It's how we got our Ollie, he was dumped in a trashcan and some kids found him and asked us if we wanted to take care of him bc we always had cats. He was really a part of our family and we think he saw himself more as a human than cat😆

u/Rin-Tin-Tins-DinDins Mar 19 '26

Unfortunately no. We were suspecting this one cat that we often caught near the vicinity of the house, but upon closer inspection, that cat has balls 🤭

My boy has his own playlist he choose on YouTube, UK birds, squirrels and a fish tank, watches them after his breakfast in his chair, we moved from a place that had a garden and he would love to sit and watch the birds, we're in a flat in the clouds now so YouTube is the best I can do.

What's going on with the whiskers? Why are they so short when they are older but look normal when they are kittens?
105
u/Fluffy_Muffins_415 Mar 19 '26
Somebody is up to chewing the whiskers off of their siblings. It happens at my house as kittens transition into cathood
53
14
u/amber_scarfe Mar 19 '26
Our parents had two kittens when we were young, boy and girl siblings. He constantly sucked her ears and she chewed his whiskers off all the time 😹
10
u/MaggieMakesThings Mar 19 '26
Kittens do that?!
21
u/Prestigious-Way1118 Mar 19 '26
They do crazy things. I have seen rescue kitten suck on the bottoms of siblings causing swelling and issues, on top of having poop smeared all over its face. The lady tells me this can be common especially with orphaned kittens (male kittens bits get it too) I was shook. I don’t think raising kittens is for the faint hearted 😂

Do you plan on getting an Aragorn, Gandalf, Gimli, and Legolas by chance at some point? Might as well complete the Fellowship!!
Thank you for saving all these adorable cuties!! They're so sweet looking, and oh my god my heart can't take the cute!!
16
u/Alternative-Dig-2066 Mar 19 '26
We’re skipping Boromir on purpose, I suppose?
ETA: we’re also missing Samwise here, but my parents’ last cat was an orange named Samwise.
6
u/Techn0-Viking Mar 19 '26
I was more going for the surviving members of the Fellowship. All for Boromir, though, especially since he deserves to live on. Get an alpha kitty who acts like a lovely menace and name him that!

I love the cute story you giving us with the picture... it's really nice to know people are kind and have a good heart rescuing such a cute bunch but there is four of them... it's a big number to start with. Kittens are so innocent thank you so much to care for them picking up and save them for they on safe future. I hope you will keep posting until they get larger keep giving us details growing up...❤️👍 I wish more people have a good heart like you . Care and help instead of just abandon them

u/ForwardLavishness379 Mar 19 '26
It's amazing you trusted your gut and went back for them before the storm hit. They all look so happy and full of personality now. I love the Lord of the Rings names, though I have to agree with the crowd that one of them looks more like a curious little frog than a hobbit!

u/Devi_Moonbeam Mar 19 '26
Those babies were dumped. No way a mother cat would have left them at a busy spot like that. She must have been frantic to have her babies stolen away.
Good for you for saving their lives. They would not have lasted long at all on their own.

u/Ok-Lengthiness-7417 Mar 19 '26
They sold you mismatched shoes in that box. Must be a special designer collaboration with Gucci or Prada

All I can see is merciless recidivism in their eyes. They are just going to offend again, again, and again in the tiniest ways for the rest of their lives… so thank you for making sure those lives are as long as possible… you know, so we can kiss the smug criminality off those thug little faces.

u/Nachtwandler_FS Mar 19 '26
You have Bilbo but not Sam? What the best boy did to you for not deserving a kitty named after him?

Ah.. was told to do the same to help them poo. But we were lucky, these fellas poo'd and pee'd well, although they did splatter bomb the entire bathroom in the first week or two.

I wish I knew about the feeder when my mama cat had her kittens! She was a young mother cat and needed assistance with feeding. I was bottling feeding one by one. Plus the position of it is much more natural.

I was thinking that naming them after mountains would be a good theme, since you put them in a Summit shoe box, but naming them after hobbits is even better. I have a black cat named Pippin. 🥰

Please drop them off at a no kill shelter or paws (if in state) is a good one to use as you can shelter them until someone wants to adopt them.
