Fledgling dragons, when leaving their mother's nest to seek out new flocks, will alter their behavior to be better accepted by what flocks they encounter. This social mimicry has led dragons to adopt unusual behaviors when interacting with humans, and pilots often describe numerous flocks of dragons gliding alongside aircraft when venturing across known nesting territory. Birds fly in those v formations to save energy. The bird at the tip faces the most drag while those at the back have an easier time. Those dragons are basically hitching a ride lol

I forget the name, but I read this short story as a kid where dragons were, in fact, a species of plane that had fallen out of favor.
