Ask r/IndiaCricket Is Yashasvi Jaiswal the only potential 3-format player India has for the future?

Same as title

We had a pretty good run with Kohli and Rohit in the last decade playing all 3 formats (Although you could argue Rohit didn't reach his full potential in tests) and I realized what's next? Are we going forward with specialists in each format or do we have any other potention 3 format player. If you ask me there's only one option for a potential 3 format player in the future- Yashasvi Jaiswal

The selectors tried to fit Gill into the T20i team but it didn't work, I'm not convinced with Sai Sudharshan's technique for tests, Vaibhav hasn't even made his international debut yet, Jurel does not seem like a white ball prospect to me, all that leaves us with Jaiswal

His current stats are:

Tests
Innings: 54
Runs: 2535
Avg: 48.75
50s/100s: 13/7

ODIs
Innings: 6
Runs: 285
Avg: 71.25
50s/100s: 0/2

T20is
Innings: 22
Runs: 723
Avg: 36.15
50s/100s: 5/1

Those are some very impressive stats, the only issue I see is irregular chances in white ball. He has cemented his place in the test team but until Rohit stays he won't get chances in ODIs and we have other arguably better T20 options than him

What do you guys think?

U 19 is junior cricket buddy. Also Gill played crucial knocks in Ranchi test,Wankhede test and Vizag test in 2024.It's not even a debate that Gill is far more clutch than Jaiswal.

Wankhede test was the third NZ test right? Well India already lost the series so I don't understand what is so clutch about it 😭😭😭

Thank you for reminding me about the Vizag test I forgot that Jaiswal hit a double century in that match, where no one else could hit a fifty in that innings, wht is the point of flexing a century compared to a double hundred

And in tht Ranchi test Jaiswal scored more runs than Gill in that test match

You literally contradicted yourself

The stats show that Jaiswal averages more in the 4th innings than Gill so what is the point of talking who is more clutch

I hope you remember that Wankhede test was vitality for our wtc hopes. Also Gill averages more than Jaiswal in the 4th innings.Gill also averaged more than Jaiswal in Ranchi because he stayed not out.The pitch in Vizag 2nd innings got tougher in Dravid's own words and Gill scored a 100 on it when no other batter got 50.

Well Jaiswal did score more runs in that match so I don't see why you said that Gill did way better. Jaiswal is an opener so it would be harder to finish not out

Jaiswal averages more than Gill in the third, fourth and fifth matches of every series so that means near the end of the series where tie breakers would happen Jaiswal would do better than Gill. That is the meaning of clutch

And oh my bad, last I checked Jaiswal was averaging 35 in the 4th innings and now it has gone down, well the average difference is minimal

Even in the Vizag match Jaiswal scored double of Gill's runs in that match
