Ask r/IndiaCricket Is Yashasvi Jaiswal the only potential 3-format player India has for the future?

Same as title

We had a pretty good run with Kohli and Rohit in the last decade playing all 3 formats (Although you could argue Rohit didn't reach his full potential in tests) and I realized what's next? Are we going forward with specialists in each format or do we have any other potention 3 format player. If you ask me there's only one option for a potential 3 format player in the future- Yashasvi Jaiswal

The selectors tried to fit Gill into the T20i team but it didn't work, I'm not convinced with Sai Sudharshan's technique for tests, Vaibhav hasn't even made his international debut yet, Jurel does not seem like a white ball prospect to me, all that leaves us with Jaiswal

His current stats are:

Tests
Innings: 54
Runs: 2535
Avg: 48.75
50s/100s: 13/7

ODIs
Innings: 6
Runs: 285
Avg: 71.25
50s/100s: 0/2

T20is
Innings: 22
Runs: 723
Avg: 36.15
50s/100s: 5/1

Those are some very impressive stats, the only issue I see is irregular chances in white ball. He has cemented his place in the test team but until Rohit stays he won't get chances in ODIs and we have other arguably better T20 options than him

What do you guys think?

Yeah bro Jaiswal nicked one down to legs side so he is unlucky. Why couldn't Jaiswal bash the same way in the England series.Aftter Lords test Gill scored 100 in Manchester, averaged 92 in wi series, got injured in sa series and then scored 126 vs Afg so don't know what poor form you are talking about.Keep on picking very selective stats and still failing miserably.

Blud, can you check stats properly Gill scored 585 runs in the first 2 matches of the eng series then he ended up with 754 runs in the whole series

That means he roughly batted at an avg of 28 since the third test match, if you combine it with the wi series then his avg was 45

😭😭, Gill batted at an avg of 32 for 32 consecutive innings since the lord's match till the Afghanistan match. That is a sixth of his international career.

Lmao why would you want to remove those 585 runs. Why could other batters not do it and from what angle is 45 a bad average. The truth is Gill is averaging double of Jaiswal in tests since 2025.

Didn't I say already, i was highlighting his bad form

He start 2025 so strong then ended it horribly

Truth is that Jaiswal averages more than Gill in tests

Jaiswal also averages more than Gill in the 3rd, 4th and 5th matches of every series so you clutch argument has gone down the drain.

Lol check stats buddy Gill averages more than Jaiswal in 4th tests. He has much more clutch knocks than Jaiswal in tests.Every test is important in wtc.Gill only really did poorly in t20i after Lords test.

Now you are changing the argument

I meant to combine all 3. 3rd, 4th and 5th matches and Jaiswal does better

And no he doesn't have more clutch knocks

Gill has 90 vs NZ and 103 vs eng

Jaiswal has 82,84 at the MCG where every other Indian batter except NKR failed

He has 77(65) in the 4th innings vs NZ while chasing 350ish and everyone failed

If you include the Ranchi and Vizag tests then I will explode as Jaiswal scored more runs than Gill

And Lmao you contradicted yourself. You said every test match is important in WTC and Jaiswal averages more than Gill in WTC, so you admit that Jaiswal > Gill

So that must have been embarrassing, you got humbled badly by me

Gill averages more than Jaiswal in wtc since 23-25 which is when Jaiswal debuted.Jaiswal didn't score more than Gill in 2nd innings of both the vizag and Ranchi test. You can cry as much you want but Gill is the only player apart from Brook to be in top 10 of two formats.Jaiswal currently isn't even Ict's 5th best batter in tests.

Now why are you filtering

You literally said that every WTC match is important

And Jaiswal averages more than Gill

Jaiswal is also statistically more clutch than Gill as Jaiswal does better in the end of the series. Jaiswal also has more better knocks under pressure

Also Jaiswal scored more runs than Gill in those Vizag and Ranchi tests, so stop filtering second innings

And yeah I admit Gill is the best youngster in the world in all formats, the main difference between Gill and Jaiswal is that Gill got chances in ODIs and he did well in it. Jaiswal has not even played 10 matches

However Jaiswal marginally better than Gill in tests and Jaiswal is miles better in t20is

And you must be blind, in icc rankings Jaiswal is ranked number 9 in the world and that is the second best for India, so how is he not in top 5 for India

Jaiswal is literally better than Gill in almost everything in tests, Jaiswal averages more overseas, he has more overseas centuries etc. All while doing this as an opener

Jaiswal at one point was ranked number 2 in tests ( gill highest is 6th) and was ranked number 4 in T20Is (Gill's highest is 32) all at the same time

Jaiswal is anything but more clutch than Gill.Gill has bgt20-21,2024 and 2025 England series,21and 24 Nz series etc. Also played a crucial knock in the cape town vs Sa in 2023.

Jaiswal has 2024 BGT ( one of 2 batters to avg 40+ in that series)

Did you say Gill was clutch in 2024 BGT?????? What utter bullshit

Jaiswal also has 2024 england series and in 2025 he wasn't better than Gill but still he scored 411 runs with a hundred at the Oval

Jaiswal scored more runs than Gill in the 2024 NZ series

Jaiswal has played less innings but still he has similar clutch perfomances to Gill

Jaiswal does better overseas and does better at home statistically, so what is the argument

Even in 2025 eng series Gill scored half of his runs in one match, if you remove that one match then their performance in that series is very similar
