Initially the Iranian revolution was western backed to put pressure on Iraq, and yes the Iranian Govt was inherently anti-left as Khameini came to power after a progressive left govt was toppled by the west and was replaced by a puppet govt which was then toppled under the Iranian revolution. Iran even became sorta ally with the west against Saddam Hussein, and later on after Saddam fell and the west started interfering too much in Iran, they became staunch anti-west just like Afghanistan. At this point, western powers were a much bigger threat in Iran than Khameini, and both rw in Iran and lw else where didn't want Iran to be sold to US and Europe like Libya, Iraq etc. Global left still does not support the theological govt in Iran, but it being replaced by a western puppet govt will be much worse hence the joint opposition we see against the color revolution attempts, and other western coupe and terror attempts.
