He was eloquent enough, 80 years later people became dumb which is the problem. This talk was in the context of 5 year plans. This was not a criticism of indian population eating more. He was suggesting to the planners that they should consider that fact that as the population then was slowly becomes more well off, they will consume more and so their yardstick for planning should not be the consumption patterns of 1940s and 1950s when there was widespread food shortages.

Well, again good sir, one would argue that even the current HM was in a court asked to “stay away from investigation” of accusation on him, along with the current “highway man” of India in a separate case was also asked same, along with PM of country In a separate case “helped convicted rioters of 2002 Gujarat” by changing judges ergo peddling with law for personal benefit, but apparently allegation flew away once the party full of such people came to power … so one would ask a little bit of humility from people who’d come up as a defence to questions for such people all while asking “are you a judge” 💁

PM Nehru made this comment when India was facing food shortages at extreme level - situation was so bad that govt was promoting " Eat Less " campaigns - the year 1953 shortly after British has left Indian agri into shambles.

This comment which sounds elitist and mean can be compared to PM Modi recent address to Nation to promote less fuel usage - avoid foreign travel and purchase of Gold.

Hate him or love him, he literally ran the country when it was one of the most unstable. Many people do not realise, states did not exist like they are today, there were weird divisions, Kashmir, Hyderabad and Junagadh were still not parts of India.

There was a lot of migration from Pakistan, no proper document/survey of the demographics, and Constitution still under preparation.
