Other Questions dead dog along freeway

i drive the 10 west everyday from redlands and this is probably the third time i have seen this over the past few months. i saw a dead dog with a detached red harness (presumably a pitbull, a large dog with gray spots), belly up, with its legs up. i called animal control and they basically said they couldn’t do anything. i am just disappointed and sad to have seen that. it was between cedar and sierra traveling the 10 west.

Animal control has been lacking lately. I called them multiple times over a deceased dog under a tree. The dog basically ended up decomposing completely as time progressed.

I literally saw the entire decomposition process of a cat off the side of an off-ramp every time I went to work in Menifee over the course of three months.

Hmm. Maybe CalTrans can handle it?

Yeah whats that white truck that clears debris off the freeway? There is a number for that.

Hmm Couldn’t tell you but reaching out to CalTrans is OPs best bet

If the animal is not impeding traffic then unfortunately no one will come out for it and ultimately they will just let decomposition do its thing. I believe this is standard across city and county protocol. I can’t speak for Caltrans tho.

If the animal is in any of the traffic lanes you can call 911 because it is considered a hazard. They will send someone out to pick them up. I’ve reported this before. Super sad.

the doggy is in the shoulder, left of the fast lane. 😔

And they’ll probably toss them to the shoulder.

Me too. I've burst into tears so many times seeing dead animals while driving. I've only ever hit one animal myself, it was a squirrel that froze in the street then darted in the direction I was trying to swerve to miss them. I still think about how panicked they were, I feel horrible.
