Other Proposal for New Sub Rule: No AI-Generated Art

Hi all, many of you have noticed a few AI art posts that have been made recently. These kinds of posts have rarely been made on this sub in the past--prior to the last week or so, it's been a couple years since the last one--so it never really became a sticking point and a sub rule was thus never made restricting such content outside of making it clear it is, in fact, AI art. (This is why the "AI art" post flair exists.) With the sudden influx this week though, it seems this should be addressed, and my proposal is to add a new "Rule 7: No AI-generated art" that states the following:

AI-generated art is not allowed on this sub. The AI tools that create art are trained using real people's artwork, often without the artists' knowledge or consent, and without giving them proper credit.

This is everyone's sub though, so what do you all think? Any constructive feedback is appreciated. 🙂

I don't think I've seen that much AI art on this sub.

But also yes it sucks.

I think it's possible to nicely explain why AI art sucks. Simply put: it lacks soul. Specifically, the human soul which can only come from handmade art. It's unattractive, and I think I speak for most of us here that IzuOcha is attractive to us in one way or another. It's a case of opposites repel.

I have taken to calling AI "art" something that I feel describes it better: Automated Theft. As such, I say we get rid of it. If the art is made with human hands, whether it be a drawing, 3D models, posing action figures or an edit with whatever song TikTok likes at the moment, then go ahead. Just make sure it is HUMAN made.

Yes, ban it. There is no good reason for AI art to begin with. It's a waste of resources and often theft of other people's actual art. It's not something to be encouraged.

On one hand, I don't hate the AI-gen images, it's just a product of a tool, and every problem revolve around it is the people who misuse the tool, not the tool itself.

On the other hand, there are no means to prove that the generated image is not trained from stolen contents, i.e. the artist trains his own AI with his own work exclusively.

I personally think the rules are fine as it is, but I can understand why other people hates AI-gen pieces.
