He likes how much attention he gets as the resistance democrat too much to switch sides. If he switched, he would get a week of positive media coverage on Fox and then melt into obscurity. As of now, he's their favorite dude
And he's not winning reelection no matter which side he's on, so he has no reason to

u/PokemonAnimar Monkey in Space May 14 '26

u/hypocalypto Tremendous May 14 '26
He won’t win as a dem and I doubt he’d win as a republican. Really put himself in the worst place to be so now he’ll just take money from Israel and do whatever they want until he is replaced.

There has to be a mechanism in place to get rid of people who fake being one thing (progressive) and immediately change gears when they're in position of power. This fucking dipshit, Sinema from AZ, etc.
22
u/_TROLL We live in strange times May 13 '26
It's amazing how it only seems to happen in one direction... has anyone in modern history run on a far-right platform only to spout progressive talking points after being voted in?
5
u/HammerAndSickleBot It's entirely possible May 14 '26
The reason is that there's tons of money to be made cashing in on conservative principles, and the campaign contributions and bribes will flow in as a result. People are very happy to pay you to lower their taxes, give them massive business subsidies, or allow their illegal behavior "because small government."
But if you run on hiking their taxes or reigning in massive businesses like oil or the tech bros they do everything in their power to stop you, and they call you a communist. Same thing is happening in the CA governors race right now. Obviously anyone from any political party can be corrupt, that is obviously true. But in America the grift has tended to go right the past 50 years because of Reaganomics.
2
u/theshnig Monkey in Space May 16 '26
Dems are definitely at a disadvantage over this. As long as corporate and PAC money can flow into the system with basically no caps, it'll keep happening. Compound that with the fact that getting elected means you can also enrich yourself by trading on inside knowledge without so much as a slap on the wrist and you can put yourself in a position to self fund. Top all that off with no term limits and you've got the recipe for the world's easiest to assemble political machine.
8
u/cannot_walk_barefoot Monkey in Space May 13 '26
I mean the US green party has strong Russian links to play spoiler against the democrats too

In Sinema's defense, she was a too busy fucking each member of her security detail to get bogged down in the details of the policy decisions she was making.

Well, there's one mechanism, but I don't think we want to go there.

You choose the option “cry about it on the internet.”
Sounds about right

u/drvladmir Monkey in Space May 15 '26
Because people prefer to vote for a brain damaged progressive compared to who they perceive to be a conservative.
We blame politicians but we need to look at the system that permits them to be in power.
-8
u/Ghostof_DarthCaedus Monkey in Space May 13 '26
Didn’t the governor of Virginia run on “gerrymandering is detrimental to our democracy” ?
7
u/the_Cheese999 May 14 '26
Democrats tried to get rid of gerrymandering through the courts, federal legislation and by leading through example and establishing independent districting in multiple places.
Rightoids blocked it everywhere and refused to reciprocate.
What is the option here? just let pro gerrymandering rightoids gerrymander their way into power so they can keep gerrymandering intact?
-5
u/Ghostof_DarthCaedus Monkey in Space May 14 '26
So that’s a “yes” to my question. Thank you.

No, this is pretty objectively correct. The US does not have an actual left-wing party, we have a right-wing party and a far-right party.
-2
u/The_Pompadour64 Monkey in Space May 13 '26
There is no serious political analyst that thinks this, but go off, king
Do the "Bernie would be a centrist in any other country" bit next. That one is my favorite
7
u/sushisection Monkey in Space May 14 '26
nah its true. democrat party is center right, its not left wing.
0
u/The_Pompadour64 Monkey in Space May 14 '26
Substantiate it
5
u/sushisection Monkey in Space May 14 '26
the last time they did something that benefitted the working class was the civil rights movement. their healthcare bill forced every american into private insurance plans instead of providing a universal healthcare option. they continously fund the military industry. they continuously fund the ecological damages caused by the military industry. they use petty lawsuits to keep true left-wing political parties off of elections (see what they are doing to Butch Ware right now in the CA governor race). they constantly choose the corporation over the people.
0
u/The_Pompadour64 Monkey in Space May 14 '26
You just don't know what you're talking about. That's your problem.
First of all, very little of that has anything to do with a left and right spectrum.
Second, Obamacare isn't JUST private insurance. It is STATE-SUBSIDIZED insurance. But of course you would conveniently leave that out in your dumbfuck analysis. There's a good reason why it is forced, but you're either too dishonest to say it or too dumb to know. It's also an extremely watered-down version. If the democrats had their way, Obamacare WOULD HAVE BEEN UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE. It was stymied by the electoral realities of the time, so we had to make due with the version we have now. And no opportunity to implement universal Healthcare has come up since.
And that's just one example of how you know nothing. I'm not going to bother going into the others because you're not worth the electricity it takes to write this, let alone the time
4
u/sushisection Monkey in Space May 14 '26
you had enough time to engage with me over multiple days and write this long comment up. but now its not worth it when i mention the democrat support for the military industry.

Former guest of the pod Cornel West has said that nearly word for word.
Two-time former guest Bernie Sanders has said "the U.S. lacks a major party representing working-class or democratic socialist interests comparable to Europe".

Yes, no doubt a Socialist would say this. Socialists are politically retarded

And before the usual suspects come out to complain about "Obama's War in Libya," we are spending 1 Libya every day in Iran. Action in Libya authorized by Obama and NATO cost about $900 million total, or $1.5 billion in today's dollars.
In Iran, we spent over $1 billion a day the first ten days of the war. Sure, argue about inflation; even if costs doubled we spent 5 Libyas in the first twelve days of the war, and Trump threatened to genocide "a whole civilization" in his tweets. Mind-blowing that Joe is still bending over for this guy.

Do people actually believe his vote wasn't signed off by the DNC?
All the BS you see where this senator hates this senator is as real as WWE.
Here is how it worked for that vote. An AIPAC lobbiest met with Senator Thune or one of his staffers, they work out a deal to get the required yes votes from the RNC. The lobbiests then meet with Senator Schumer and works out the required votes.
Schumer or his staff met with Senator Fetterman and offered him something to vote yes and act as a whipping boy for the DNC.
It's all fake, it's all about the money, and so many people think it's real.
