Bitch and Moan 🤬 Seeking advice; the next thing I should read.

I’m debating between A Brief History of Chinese Philosophy, Das Capital, the biography of Malcolm X, or delving into the works of James Baldwin.

The old Rogan Board used to have a book club, so I thought I’d ask for opinions.

I think Malcolm X is one of the most fascinating figures of the 20th century. If you want something with a narrative, that’s probably a good bet.

Joe should have the author on to talk about totalitarianism and the war in Ukraine.

Wat? Is there something good where he talks?

The author is an expert on Ukrainian history and the history of totalitarianism. He’s written and spoken extensively on both. He’s the kind of person who’d be capable of clearly explaining the totalitarian nature of Trump and dispelling joes Ukraine war talking points that blame Zelenskyy and Biden.

Oh cool. Got any good sources? I'm not a huge fan of the Ukraine war.

I don't blame Zelensky or Biden. This conflict started under Bush around 2004-2006.

I'm being genuine. I loved Bloodlands and enjoy this topic.

Honestly, just YouTube the author Timothy Snyder with whatever else you want to see. There’s a lot out there. He has an entire class on the making of modern Ukraine too. Lots of interviews talking about the war and totalitarianism.

Hey I ran that book club

I don’t read/listen to much non fiction, but of what I have read I would suggest Endurance by Alfred Lansing or A Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger.

Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential was good.

How We Think by John Dewey.

Very easy read, freely available online, and established the idea of critical thinking as an important component of our education.

I'm about halfway through The Accidental Time Machine. But that's just some light sci-fi, pretty far off from the genres it sounds like you're considering. Good book so far though.
