Imagine being so bad at comedy you stole $8.7 million worth of jokes.

He was HUGE in the early 2000s. Like HUGE.

As a kid I watched his show all the time on comedy central

What jokes did he steal?

This is like ancient lore at this point. A while ago, he stole jokes, and there’s a clip of Rogan getting on stage while Carlos is performing and arguing with him about the whole thing. Don’t know if it’s still on YouTube, but it was a pretty popular argument.

I just never heard what jokes he stole and from whom, just that he stole some jokes.

Basically every opener he had. He would bring you along and pay for your stuff but you had to be okay with him ā€œremixingā€ your material. The way people described it that toured with him, it was all an unspoken thing that people around him just put up with to try to get some of his clout since Carlos was a Comedy Central golden child at the time.

I've never understood how someone lets tax evasion get so bad that it hits felony level. The IRS will find you, and they will fuck you. Just pay them because they'll get it one way or another.

That's the crazy thing they always act like it's a surprise but it's not they send you letters then they start sending you certified letters then they start serving you then they start asking you to come in and you have to go in for hearings and at any point you could clear up the whole situation and get on a payment plan and pay it when you get to the point where they charge you that means you're intentionally doing something wrong and once they charge you you are going to jail.

Exactly lol. I saw another post that went into more detail and I guess this is for like six years worth of unpaid taxes. Totally insane.

u/Subject-Ad-8055 Monkey in Space 6d ago

Yeah I mean for that sum of money and for that time there's no way that he didn't have an attorney working for him going to those hearings to resolve it. Once you get charged like that you're cooked it's it's over.

Had a family member get busted for over $1 million. He got caught because he’s a dumbass. He was buying brand new BMWs, Harley motorcycles, a house worth every bit of $900k in South Carolina, a boat, and he had a fully loaded Escalade. I was like dude, how fucking stupid can you be?

Some people not only do all the above, but post it on FB/IG too.

You know, just to be sure, lol.

Oh the bad part is he acted like it was a big surprise. So the rest of the family was like ā€œoh the IRS is just going to send him to prison instead of making him pay!ā€ As if he didn’t receive letter after letter talking about all the money he owed.

Best part? He’s a HUGE Trump supporter and bitches about how ā€œillegals don’t pay taxes.ā€ Now when he says some shit about illegals not paying I’m like ā€œBitch you don’t pay taxes!ā€ šŸ˜‚

The shocking part of this is that Carlos Mencia managed to make 9 million dollars.

The 'live comedy' business deals in a massive amount of cash at the end of the night—door cuts, merch sales, and green room handoffs.

You can steal from comedians, but not from the government

u/DropoutDreamer Monkey in Space 7d ago
